## What is VivaLingua?

Talk naturally with someone who doesn't speak your language.

VivaLingua translates video calls in real time. You speak in your language, they hear you in theirs, and captions appear on screen as you go. No typing and no passing the phone back and forth.

Built for long-distance couples, families spread across countries, and travelers who want a real conversation instead of a transaction.

NEW: AI VOICE
Record 30 to 60 seconds of your voice once. From then on, the people you talk to hear your translated words in a voice that sounds like you, instead of a standard voice — on video calls, voice calls and in person.
- Works in all 41 languages
- Optional, and included at no extra cost — same minutes as any call
- Only your own voice: the app asks you to read four words aloud while recording, so it can only be made from you, live
- Listeners see an "AI Voice" label whenever it speaks
- Delete it any time in Profile
- Guests who join from a browser hear your AI Voice too

AI Voice is not available in China, Malaysia or South Korea, in countries and regions under comprehensive US sanctions, or in the US states of Illinois, Texas, Washington and Colorado, which have their own laws on voice data. There, your translations are spoken in a standard voice and everything else works the same.

THEY DON'T NEED THE APP
Send a link. They open it in their browser and join — no download, no account, nothing to sign up for. It works for video calls and for face-to-face conversations, and when you're in the same room you can just show them a QR code.

WHAT IT DOES
- Real-time voice translation on video and voice calls
- AI Voice, or choose a standard female or male voice
- Live captions on screen while you talk
- Group mode for in-person conversations with up to four people
- 41 languages, translating directly between any two of them

ANY LANGUAGE TO ANY LANGUAGE
Most translation tools route everything through English. VivaLingua doesn't. All 41 languages translate directly to each other, so a Spanish speaker and a Thai speaker can talk without English in the middle adding errors.

ONLY THE HOST PAYS
Whoever starts the call spends the minutes. The other person joins free, every time — whether they have the app or joined from a browser link.

NO SUBSCRIPTION
New accounts start with 60 free minutes. After that, buy packs of 30, 60 or 120 minutes when you need them. Purchased minutes never expire.

WORKS WITH THE EARBUDS YOU ALREADY OWN
Any Bluetooth earbuds work, or just the phone speaker. No special hardware to buy.

IN-PERSON TRANSLATION
The same app works when you're together. Hold a button while you speak with Push-to-Talk, or use Hands-Free to talk naturally while VivaLingua picks up each turn. Useful for meeting family, ordering food, or getting through a pharmacy visit abroad.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING
- An internet connection is required. No mode translates offline.
- Your speech is sent to the services that make translation work: Deepgram (speech to text), Google Cloud Translation (translation), and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech or ElevenLabs (the spoken translation). Video calls are carried by Daily.co. The app asks your permission before any of this happens.
- If you set up AI Voice, your recording goes to Deepgram, to check the four words, and to ElevenLabs, to create your voice. VivaLingua doesn't keep the recording. ElevenLabs keeps your voice model until you delete it and doesn't use it to train its AI.
- Details are in our privacy policy.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.11 — 2026-10-04

New: AI Voice
• In Profile, record a short sample of your voice. The people you talk to can then hear your translations in a voice like yours, marked "AI Voice". AI Voice is optional and not available everywhere.

Guest links
• When you share a guest link, you can choose the guest's language.
• The "Let them in" prompt for a waiting guest is no longer hidden behind the call header.

And other improvements and fixes.

### 1.1.10 — 2026-09-27

Captions that match the voice
• In a video call, each caption now appears as its sentence is spoken, instead of before you hear it.
• Captions stay on screen in a box beside your video. Scroll up to read earlier lines. Turning captions off in call settings hides the box.

Faster conversations
• Translated speech starts sooner after you finish a sentence, including in Vietnamese.
• When several sentences arrive together, they play one after another without a pause.

Clearer when something is off
• If camera access for VivaLingua is off in Settings, the call now tells you, and voice and translation keep working.
• On your profile, Save Changes is only active when you have changed something.

Staying up to date
• From this version, the app lets you know when a newer version is available on the App Store.

### 1.1.8 — 2026-09-22

Only you pay, and new accounts start with more

• New accounts now start with 60 free minutes instead of 30.
• Whoever starts the call spends the minutes. Answering or joining is always free, and you can now call someone back straight away after being their guest.

When minutes run out
• The app now says what is actually true and what to do about it, instead of offering plans that do not exist.
• If your email is not confirmed yet, you can buy minutes anyway, or confirm first and get your free ones.

Email and sign-up
• A mistyped email domain is caught at sign-up, before it costs you your free minutes.
• If your address bounced, the app now tells you and lets you fix it, instead of asking for a code that can never arrive.

Calls and conversations
• Incoming calls now ring on screen, with a ringtone.
• Face to face, you no longer need to add someone as a contact first — send them a link or show a QR code.
• Arabic video calls respond faster.
• Calling someone who speaks your language is no longer reported as a problem.
• Usernames: clearer rules, and "user not found" now says username instead of name.

### 1.1.7 — 2026-09-18

Invite anyone with a link
• Send a link and they join from their phone's browser, with no app and no account. It works for video calls and for face-to-face conversations, and in person they can scan a QR code instead.

Voices
• Translated speech now always uses cloud voices, including more natural-sounding voices from ElevenLabs. Because ElevenLabs is now one of the services that process your speech, the app will ask your permission once more.
• Voice previews now play exactly what the other person will hear.

Fixes and improvements
• Translated speech plays more reliably, and the first one starts sooner.
• If your email address isn't verified yet, the app now says so, instead of telling you that you're out of minutes.
• If your phone can't receive call notifications, the app now tells you on the screen where you make calls.

### 1.1.5 — 2026-09-18

• New privacy control: see exactly what is sent for translation and to whom, and turn it off at any time in Profile > Privacy.
• Choose which notifications you get — calls, invitations and contact requests — in Profile.
• If you and someone call each other at the same time, you can now answer instead of redialing.
• Your incoming call list updates on its own while it is open.
• We warn you before a call where both people speak the same language, so you know nothing will be translated.
• Faster in-person translation.
• Clearer call status: you can see when the other person is speaking, who you are calling, and when a translation could not be played.
• Optional diagnostic reports to help us find and fix problems, on by default and switchable off in Profile.
