### 2/5 — Doesn’t update edition

*2025-05-08, version 5.0.2*

App is fine, I subscribed through iTunes. However I have found that the latest addition of the magazine doesn’t appear for me. As you aren’t given a customer number it’s impossible to chase up online. I gave up in the end and stopped subscribing

### 2/5 — Poor resolution scans

*2025-02-14*

EarLier editions have some strips that are very hard to read. Normally a pdf you can enlarge, but these get even blurrier if you try to pinch and zoom

### 3/5 — Text is now legible

*2023-09-12, version 5.0.0*

The previously blurred text is now legible. This is now a good app. Thank you

### 2/5 — Where’s me back issues gone?

*2023-09-05, version 5.0.0*

The app was updated 4 days ago. Apparently one of the improvements to the new version is the removal of all of the back issues I have paid for over the last 5 years. I was halfway through re-reading one - gone overnight. Great way to make me consider whether I should continue my subscription.

### 2/5 — Allow access via desktop please?

*2023-08-01*

Hi. I am 54 and have been a fan of Viz for 30 years. And I still love it but could we, please, access digital copies via desktop/laptops?

My ageing eyes find it difficult to view on a phone not to mention the need to constantly zoom in.

Many thanks and kind regards.

Rick Lee.

### 2/5 — Why !!

*2021-10-12, version 4.1*

Love viz, read it for years, been cheerfully downloading and paying on the app for the editions that I want with no problem, now, all of a sudden(Oct 2021) it’s become subscribe only, I don’t have a credit card attached to iTunes ~I just buy vouchers when I need them, I don’t want to subscribe, just buy issues that I want when I want them, please sort this out or I’ll be another lost customer

### 4/5 — Love Viz, app is average

*2021-07-10, version 4.1*

I wanted a digital subscription & have been using the app for 18 months now. It has improved, albeit from a very poor start where access was denied despite paying for a year. Since renewal the service has been uninterrupted.
Overall the navigation is okay, but moving from one magazine to another is not as smooth as it should be. Remembering which page you have reached in previous unfinished issues would be a vast improvement, as would syncing from iPad to iPhone. So one star withheld due to functionality, but the content is as good as ever.

### 1/5 — Can’t turn the app landscape

*2019-11-19, version 4.0*

The new app for viz is much worse than previous. Can’t turn the app landscape to see double page spreads anymore. And theres a header bar at the top which pops up all the time cropping the bottom of the page. Very bad design.

### 1/5 — Thanks for nothing.

*2019-10-26, version 4.0*

All my previous purchases gone. What a great update. Avoid like the plague.

### 1/5 — No sample pages

*2019-06-26, version 4.0*

Downloaded app but there is no actual examples of how this magazine would look or work digitally. It isn’t feasible to expect anyone to purchase a product that can’t be sampled or seen. In contrast the glorious work on the TinTin application allows spectacular examples of the first few pages of each digital publication to be seen and explored. What then follows is the buyer makes a purchase.
If someone becomes motivated enough to download the application and then the publisher chooses to block the buying process by not allowing the customer to see what they are purchasing then there is only one choice, app deleted.

### 1/5 — Appalling Rip Off

*2019-06-18, version 4.0*

I'm a bit of a VIZ addict, I've collected this comic since issue 15 and have a huge archive of back issues. In 2012 when VIZ went digital via ITunes, I jumped at the chance to subscribe. The mag looks great on iPad I subscribed for more than five years of issues and specials etc. All was well with every issue accessible in the app. Then, in 2018, an update to the app was made by Denis Publishing which locks out ITunes subscribers from accessing the App without a Customer Number - something never issued on my original sign up. Denis Publishing have locked subscribers out from their paid for issues and don't seem to care about loyal subscribers who've paid hundreds of pounds in subscription fees, they just say it's Apple's fault. (Despite the same software app working for years without a fault) Steer Clear !

### 1/5 — Only shows issues from the last 12 months.

*2019-01-30, version 4.0*

What happened? Here’s what ...

The latest version of the app (19 Sept 2018) app only gives access to back issues from August 2017 onwards.

The latest version of this app deleted all the back issues I had purchased before August 2017 and removed the ability to re-download purchased issues prior to the August 2017 issue.

Over 3 and a half years of purchases ... gone ... without warning.

I contacted Dennis publishing and was informed it was a DELIBERATE decision to only make the last 12 months of issues available, but they would pass on my feedback about not being able to access my back issues, bah blah.

Update - 5 months on and still no app update to restore access to purchased back issues. DENNIS PUBLISHING ARE ROBBING TW@TS.

Never buy anything through their apps ... they can’t be trusted. BUNCH OF TW@TS. Oh, did I mention, DENNIS PUBLISHING ARE THIEVING TW@TS.

### 1/5 — The new app and service...

*2018-12-10*

... are appalling. Several year’s worth of downloaded (and paid for) back issues were deleted from my iPad when I updated the app. Dennis Publishing is only prepared to upload a portion of the archive so I feel somewhat cheated to say the least. The app itself is buggy, often jumping back to the title page. Stories that stretch over a double page are annoying to read (you have to load the next page and enlarge) and if an illustration goes over what would be the centre fold part of it is often missing.

### 1/5 — Lost all my old issues

*2018-10-22, version 4.0*

I stopped buying the print copies six years ago and everything older than a year has now gone. I paid for those issues and they’re gone. Dennis publishing have said they will only offer issues going back one year so you will lose any you pay for. Don’t subscribe. And to rub salt into the wound, the new app is horrible with the menu bar always there and the bottom of the page hangs off screen as a result.

### 1/5 — Lost all purchases

*2018-10-16*

Bought several copies on old app.
Now can’t access them.
Apparently older copies not available. So only a finite amount of time to view what you pay for.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Lost everything

*2023-09-02, version 5.0.0*

Years I’ve been subscribing and now I have lost all my old editions.
Absolutely disgusting, I’m so angry and upset.

### 1/5 — The most-recent update wiped out YEARS of content!

*2023-09-02, version 5.0.0*

If you have bought issues of Viz in the past, DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS VERSION! It only now contains issues from 2015, and it wiped out EVERY issue I had bought previously. (Luckily, I discovered this fact before updating my iPad, but sadly, my phone lost everything.) The new app only has issues back to 2015 (and only 2 issues from that year). The old app had issues all the way back to 2011, plus it had special issues available. If you update, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS YOUR OLD PURCHASES! They will be completely gone! What’s more, when you first launch the new app, there is a tutorial that shows you features that are supposed to be there but aren’t. For example, the tutorial boats of having a “Library icon” in the upper left part of the screen. There is no library icon. The tutorial actually shows images of an app that is different than what you’re actually getting. Version 4.0 (released in 2018) and Version 4.1 (released in 2020) are absolute garbage! If you still have version 3.6.1 (released in 2016) on your device(s) keep it! You won’t be able to buy new issues, but you will still have access to your old purchases. (2021 update - The previous version of the app is no longer being supported. So, purchased issues that you had “in the cloud” will no longer download... 😡. )
(2023 update – The newest version (5.0) of this sorry app is even worse than the last (if you can believe it). This time, they wiped out *all* of my old purchases – every issue I had bought before version 4.0 screwed things up the first time are now completely gone! I had hoped that perhaps version 5.0 would restore all the old content, but those hopes were misplaced. What a waste of money this whole affair had been!)

### 1/5 — New version takes away access to old content

*2023-09-01*

I’ve been a subscriber for many years. The latest version of the app took away access to everything except the most recent issue as well as all ten issues for 2018. This is the second time they’ve done this, and the last time they’ll do it to me, since I’ve now cancelled my subscription.

### 1/5 — Horrible new update for iPad

*2023-09-01, version 5.0.0*

The new update is a mess. Text on the iPad has become illegible for some pages of the app. Please revert to previous version as anyone with a 12.9 inch iPad screen will be unable to read the magazine.

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2022-11-18, version 4.2*

I used to just login and buy one issue. Now I need a customer number, huh, and can only purchase 3 issues on a rolling subscription basis. Don’t think so !

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2021-11-09, version 4.1*

Cannot buy individual issues anymore - only subscribe. All downloaded editions have been deleted apart from the last three. Poor.

### 1/5 — Poor.

*2021-06-14, version 4.1*

Never seen such a badly run subscription. The price is right but the layout is appalling. To log in I need a customer number.
I didn’t get one. So I add my details into some website that they say should find them.
They don’t know my details.
It’s utterly a waste of time, which is a shame cause Viz is a great mag. But this service is poor. And I mean poor! I have one apple account and can’t even add this existing subscription to my tablet even though I’m paying for it and it’s just one account. You can only have have 12 months of mags.
I wish I saved my money and read the reviews, well, bigger fool me.

### 1/5 — 20/20 needed

*2021-04-29, version 4.1*

Not good on a mobile. Fonts are difficult to make out so make it hard work.

### 1/5 — The most-recent update wiped out YEARS of content!

*2021-03-26, version 4.1*

If you have bought issues of Viz in the past, DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS VERSION! It only now contains issues from 2015, and it wiped out EVERY issue I had bought previously. (Luckily, I discovered this fact before updating my iPad, but sadly, my phone lost everything.)

### 1/5 — Now have to subscribe

*2019-12-16, version 4.0*

It seems starting from Decembers issue you can no longer buy single issues- seems you need to subscribe for a year. I don’t like options being taken away from me so unfortunately I will not be purchasing any future issues

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Update to: Latest update was a backward step

*2023-09-10, version 5.0.0*

All the faults listed below have now been rectified. Well done developers!
I shall leave the original review up for another week or so and then delete the comments below.

Previously one had access to all the previous editions. Yesterday when I opened the app only a few from 2018 were available. The ones I had previously bought had disappeared! Also, some of the features are blurred when you try to magnify them. E.g. Sid the Sexist was almost unreadable. One advantage of the app was that the content could be made readable for people with short sight. Unfortunately that is no longer possible in some cases. Update The lost editions have reappeared but most cartoons cannot be magnified without the text becoming unreadable and the drawings blurred.

### 5/5 — Viz

*2021-04-29, version 4.1*

Great magazine but App doesn’t work on an IPad

### 5/5 — Superb

*2020-11-20, version 4.1*

Brilliant app. iPad experience brilliant

### 5/5 — Plenty of sauce!

*2020-06-03, version 4.1*

Nothing compares. Best read ever

### 5/5 — Like the comic, app now “not as funny as it used to be”

*2018-10-14, version 4.0*

All back issues and special issues I had bought, from over a year ago, gone. Bring them back or compensate me.

### 5/5 — Really clunky - spoils the experience

*2018-08-16, version 3.6.1*

Not a pleasure to use at all. Constantly requires fresh logins and often seems to suggest that purchases are needed even when a subscription is in place. Can’t seem to store a whole magazine for reading later either.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2015-10-25, version 3.1.4*

Huge VIZ fanatic! Been reading this mag since the late 80's..that's if you could find it in the States. By the way, don't mistake this for Viz Manga..two totally different creatures.. And besides, who understands those Japanese anyway? All that tentacle sex bollocks...no thanks...give me FAT SLAGS any day..!

### 5/5 — KIN

*2014-06-07, version 3.1.4*

LOVE IT. I grew up with Viz and I'm still growing up with it now.

rude kid.

### 5/5 — LOL

*2014-05-05, version 3.1.4*

Brilliant way to subscribe to Viz! - provided you have a iPad to read it on as an iPhone screen isn't really big enough.

### 5/5 — Fitbin.

*2013-08-20, version 2.5.9*

Not optimised for iPhone 5 after nearly a year. Will still take your money tho'. Other than that, it's Viz, which, although not as funny as it used to be, can still have me laughing out loud. Do I win £5?
