### 2/5 — No Update

*2026-04-25, version 1.1.7*

I guess instead of updating the apps, devs would rather make a new subscription app. Just give us all a refund.

### 3/5 — App worked great prior to iOS26. Now? Not so much

*2026-04-14, version 1.1.7*

Since the update to iOS26, the app frequently crashes when loading in larger boards. While they still, eventually, open, it often requires minutes of going through crashes just to get them to open. I had to downsize boards by nearly 60% of their previous size under iOS18, and even then, some midsized boards will crash once or twice before opening again. While this doesn’t happen as much if the HD setting is toggled off, some images only load when the setting is toggled on, making functionality iffy, at best. The app desperately needs a patch, and possibly a request to Apple to allow it to bypass the increased RAM throttling. When boards do finally open, the app works grand.

Additionally, despite reaching out to VizRef about the issues, they have yet to respond.

### 3/5 — Useful app, but would love extra features

*2026-02-01, version 1.1.7*

I haven’t had the app for long, but it is useful for creating mood boards. I can see myself using this app a lot. I would love to see the ability to write, doodle and add text, as annotating would be super helpful; especially if there is a specific part of an image to be highlighted, when I idea pops up, or liking a part of a reference image.

### 3/5 — Pretty Good, but needs some work.

*2025-12-25, version 1.1.7*

Been using this app for several years alongside Procreate, and it's absolutely amazing!

The very few problems I've had with Vizref are minimal, but if they ever get fixed, it will make this app a 5-star

The problems that I had were:
1. App crashes when opening a brand new board (sometimes).
2. On some boards, the export screen gets stuck and shows no export options.
3. On some boards, whenever I select a single image, the app crashes
4. There are some boards I cannot reorder for some reason.

Most of the boards I have are perfectly normal. The problem is that it’s not CONSISTENT and causes minor inconveniences.

### 4/5 — Fix the exporting image bug

*2025-12-14, version 1.1.7*

All I ask is to fix the exporting png or board bug. It’s annoying when I see it not working out of absolutely nowhere.

Also, now when I select multiple images it crashes the app. Please fix this, as it’s getting annoying.

### 4/5 — Love it but there is an issue

*2025-12-14, version 1.1.7*

I wish you can turn the images or canvas all together cause i’m the type to draw whilst turning the reference image

### 3/5 — Good enough but lacks some features

*2025-12-02, version 1.1.7*

I’ve been using this for a while now, I like the simplicity of it, multiple boards you can make and adjust BUT, I’d love a way to add some text or written notes on top of the references. That’d make brainstorming a bit easier also maybe pasting links in notes so I can easily go back to the artists page or tutorial.

### 4/5 — Fix the exporting image bug

*2025-12-02, version 1.1.7*

All I ask is to fix the exporting png or board bug. It’s annoying when I see it not working out of absolutely nowhere.

### 3/5 — Great overall but could be better

*2025-11-29, version 1.1.7*

I still really like this app but I always has this problem of my big boards crashing whenever I try to export them as both pdf and image. I really wish this would have gotten fixed by now. I can’t back up my bigger boards because of this. Please fix this issue

### 4/5 — Great, but hoping for some updates

*2025-09-22, version 1.1.7*

Very helpful app, but I wish there was an option to write on the boards or do something along those lines

### 4/5 — It’s Great For Beginner Use

*2025-07-19, version 1.1.7*

I’ve been using this Reference App for years now, and it’s reliable, But for Artists with projects need a bit more “Organizational” elements. I think having a drawing option is nice, But adding a Folder to sort out your boards would be even better! There’s very little apps that has reference boards and this one is great. But please add more features!!

### 4/5 — Add Annotation option pls!!

*2025-06-17, version 1.1.7*

Absolutely amazing for organising, a few notes - the ability to resize multiple images at once would be great, and especially a way to add annotations! Would helps so much, but other than that for bing £4 its worth it

### 4/5 — Good app but needs more features

*2025-02-06, version 1.1.7*

I wish there was a text feature and the ability to draw so I can write notes around the images. Overall this is really good app and I have been using it for over two years.

### 4/5 — Maybe some notes or text

*2025-01-12, version 1.1.7*

It's lovely but Id like to be able to take notes, so maybe add a text, sticky note or drawing tool? It would get so much easier to organize

### 4/5 — Essential part of my workflow

*2024-12-15, version 1.1.7*

This app is an essential part of my workflow as said above. If I’m drawing on PC I use PureRef, if I’m drawing my my IPad I use VizRef. My one complaint is that there appear to be some consistent glitches, especially on larger or older galleries. Some pictures will turn invisible, still outlined if you highlight them, but with no way to make them visible again or photos will straight up delete themselves. It appears to be random which photos this happens too, but I wish if it was a memory error of some kind that maybe there was a cap in place to prevent me from going over what the app can handle if this isn’t something that can be fixed.

### 4/5 — Update the app

*2024-12-09, version 1.1.7*

Please let us add text in the boards

### 3/5 — Updates?

*2024-11-23, version 1.1.7*

Are we going to get any updates for this? Its starting to crash on me.

### 3/5 — Please Add Features!

*2024-10-19, version 1.1.7*

I like the app and it’s helpful but one of my boards is getting too big (and keeps crashing) so I need to move half of the images to another board and there’s a lot of them. But there’s no way to duplicate boards, or copy multiple pictures at once and then move them over to a different board. Please fix ;u; I can’t use how intended if it keeps crashing from my images but I can’t move them

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — CRASH!!!

*2025-08-19, version 1.1.7*

I’ve been using VizRef for over 3 years — it has always been my essential side tool for references. But now it keeps crashing nonstop!!! One of my main folders with tons of important references won’t open at all. I even tried freeing up storage by deleting other apps and files, but nothing works. Exporting isn’t an option either, which makes this even worse. Please fix this ASAP — I literally can’t access my work!

### 1/5 — Not the same visual interface as in the “how to” video

*2025-07-04, version 1.1.7*

The + button is missing from the lower left so there is 0 functionality. There is no way to add reference material from any source. I deleted the app and reloaded it and just the same…no “+” button on the lower left. I will delete for now and wait for a proper bug fix. Looks like the app could be useful if it worked correctly.

### 1/5 — CrashCentral

*2025-05-29, version 1.1.7*

I have several boards that keep crashing when I try to open them and others that crash when I select more than one image. It’s a shame because otherwise, this app would get a better rating.

### 1/5 — Please Add Features!

*2025-04-05, version 1.1.7*

I spent hours and hours on setting up boards for my workflow…. And it deleted all the images I had suddenly because my board got too big, now I can’t get them back and I want to cry… I wish there was a history feature or a backup feature, or at least a warning when it gets too big

### 1/5 — Use at your own risk

*2025-03-16, version 1.1.7*

Update:
This is now the third time I’ve had a large board randomly lose most of its images. One board has become completely nonfunctional and crashes the app anytime I try to open it. I’ve reached out to the dev on instagram since there’s no customer support contact, but have gotten no reply. This costs me countless hours of gathering and organizing references 😩😠 I’ll never be able to find all those images again

Original review:
*Pros: -Supports dark mode -Simple interface
*Cons: -Compresses images, poor resolution -Can’t sync across devices -No organization features (i.e. moving between boards, tags, or captions) -Can’t Copy+paste multiple images
**Comments & Suggestions** I regretted paying for VizRef when I realized that it’s just a simpler version of Freeform. I’m continuing to use VizRef for now because I already put so much time into making the boards, but will switch to Freeform once it supports Dark mode. To make this app more useful, PLEASE add some organizational features to allow easy movement of multiple images between boards within the app, or at least the ability to merge existing boards. I got this app to reduce clutter in my camera roll and files. I don’t want to have to export pics from a board just to import them into another and then have to take the extra step of deleting the files from wherever I exported them to. Also, no matter what I’ve tried, I haven’t been able to get the images to maintain their resolution when importing. Some import methods are worse than others. This has been beyond frustrating, since I rely on image quality to see the fine details in my references.

### 1/5 — Broken app

*2025-01-13, version 1.1.7*

Everytime I select “import from photos” the app freezes and I have to force stop it. It only does this for photos, not the files option or the camera option or the copypaste option. 4 dollars for a broken app

### 1/5 — Works great!

*2024-10-28, version 1.1.7*

10/2024:
Unfortunately this app seems to NOT export boards as it did before. It no longer indicates where it is saving the exported images and nothing shows up in the Apple Photo app. I had to resort to screen grabs which includes an unwanted background color. Also, no support link on their website.

—x—————x———

Love the app and see how it will be useful while doing my own artwork. I also am an art director, working with artists and photographers, and would like to be able to export the board as a single JPEG to share with my project team members.

I also agree, that having a back-up option would be a great add.

### 1/5 — Lack of Updates

*2024-08-30, version 1.1.7*

With the lack of updates it’s getting harder and harder to recommend this app. Bugs keep piling up an nothing’s get fixed, it was good while it lasted.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-08-26, version 1.1.7*

Purchased a week ago - doesn’t work with the new IPad. Refund please?

### 1/5 — Adding Photos is Glitchy

*2023-12-04, version 1.1.7*

Love the app when it worked. Now when I try to add photos, my library to select the images is all white and doesn’t work anymore. Tried restarting my iPad, and also reinstalling the app, but neither helped. Now I still can’t add images and I lost all my old image reference boards…

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Amazing I’ve used this for years as a tattoo artist

*2026-03-05, version 1.1.7*

As the title says I got this in 2020 and it’s been 6 years and I can say that it does EVERYTHING I’ve ever needed as a tattoo artist who makes collages of references. The drag and drop is seamless and just works. Deserves more praise 🥹

### 5/5 — A must for all artists!

*2025-08-29, version 1.1.7*

Absolutely fabulous app for a great price. I tend to use a lot of references for my work and I used to just swipe through my photos for them.

With this I can have lots of pictures all on the same page. You can crop them, flip, enlarge etc

I don’t believe you can write on it but it’s not an issue for me.

10/10 recommend

### 5/5 — Its great

*2025-07-28, version 1.1.7*

But can we get a search bar to get to certain boards faster

### 5/5 — Love it, feature request

*2025-05-06, version 1.1.7*

Love love this app. It is so useful to batch all my references together for a project.
Because I love this app so much, I also have a feature request to make it even better. Once you’ve made a few projects, your main page starts to get quite messy. Many moodboard coexisting in the same page. I would love it if we could have folders to group the different types of projects and keep the main page clean and tidy.

Anyways, thanks so much for the great app, it’s essential to my drawing process.

### 5/5 — Feature request

*2025-01-21, version 1.1.7*

I’d love if we could add captions or small notes to boards, this would work great to separate multiple objects on one board. And folders to place multiple boards organised. Keep up the great work.

### 5/5 — Perfect but

*2024-10-13, version 1.1.7*

Like other user said it’s been a while from updates, just got the new iPad Pro m4 and the app seems working good so far but still I’ve notice some hiccups while using it along with procreate. A restart of the app fixes it but I feel I shouldn’t be the case with such powerful hardware. Anyways great app please keep it on shape.

### 5/5 — Simple but great interface for artists!

*2024-08-30, version 1.1.7*

I’ve been using VizRef for a couple of years now and realized I never wrote a review! It’s a simple program that is great for my needs. Whenever I draw and need multiple references that don’t clutter up my canvas, I simply drop them into this app and use split screen to view it simultaneously to my drawing. It’s great!

### 5/5 — Feature request

*2024-08-29*

I’d love if we could add captions or small notes to boards, this would work great to separate multiple objects on one board.
And folders to place multiple boards organised. Keep up the great work.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2024-06-22, version 1.1.7*

But would love it more if we could add notes, and have a simple draw over functionality added to it.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2024-06-09, version 1.1.7*

This app is great! I’ve had it for years now and use it all the time as an artist gathering reference for projects and commissions. It’s a one time cost that’s absolutely worth it. There’s other apps that can do similar things like Freeform and Goodnotes where you can annotate and do more which can be nice but even with using those apps I still find myself coming back to VizRef for simple inspiration/reference collecting. It also cleanly split screens with pretty much every app but most importantly Procreate and Safari are what I use it with the most. Highly recommended!
