### 4/5 — Très bonne application

*2020-10-20, version 10.52.0*

### 2/5 — Spend $5 to be frustrated daily

*2020-08-04, version 10.2*

This program seems like a great idea, but the execution is awful. All I need is a simple program to control VLC on my iMac. Play, pause, volume control, search. The issue? The app constantly struggles to connect with my computer. It can take 1-2 minutes for it just to find my previously saved computer. Once it does it often loses contact with my iMac repeatedly, meaning no controls. Soooooooo frustrating!

### 3/5 — Works, but not very well

*2020-04-19, version 10.2*

Putting aside the extra software requirements (annoying in their own ways), it’s happening entirely too many times I hit the -10s button to try and catch some dialogue or an image that gets away from me only to be sent back to the beginning of the video (in one case I was sent back to the second chapter when I started fewer than five minutes away from the end credits). It’s incredibly frustrating to try and navigate my way back to where I was, especially with such an overly sensitive seek function. I went “all in” on Hobbyist Software and I do believe that the day I will no longer regret it is somewhere on the horizon; here’s hoping it gets here sooner rather than later.

### 5/5 — This really works(and easy setup)!

*2020-04-16, version 10.2*

I set this up late last night on the first try with ZERO cussing or frustration whatsoever. This says more about the great design and support structure of this VLC remote control app than it does about 77 year old me🙂! It is working great on my iPhone in a complex home widows 10 network.

### 5/5 — Le meilleur

*2020-04-14, version 10.2*

### 5/5 — As good as it gets.

*2020-04-04, version 10.2*

This app works flawlessly. It’s brilliant and I 100% recommend it.

### 5/5 — One of the greats

*2020-03-17, version 10.2*

Seriously, how long have you had this remote on the store now? It’s going on what seems like a decade of use for me with this app. All the way back to my days of using the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Actually, it still works on my old 3GS right now, so yeah. Enough said. Darn fine app guys! Much love and thanks!

### 5/5 — Works Better Than Expected

*2019-08-16, version 10.2*

I bought this app a few days ago to control VLC on a Mac Mini connected to my big screen TV... I love this app. I can control everything like loading video, browsing, screen size, scrubbing etc with out leaving my couch to do it with the computers mouse. I cannot speak to how it works with any othe system but a Mac... but if you have a Mac and play your downloads/DVD using VLC you NEED this app.

### 5/5 — Works Great

*2019-05-29, version 10.2*

I love it! Only thing I wish I could do with it, is control my mouse.

### 5/5 — Tolle App, fleißiger Entwickler

*2019-03-28*

Super praktische App. Weiter so!

### 4/5 — Volume and playback do not work as advertised with some outputs

*2019-01-28, version 10.2*

Purchased this app to play *.flac files and to use as a standin for the iPhone remote app from apple. When this app works, it is nice. I don’t think this app is ready for prime time. I used the free app for one day and figured I’d upgrade to be able to browse and add files. When I add files from the app, the playlist function fails and reverts back to the first song in the media player’s library (as listed). Essentially you cannot choose to start somewhere in the song listing and listen sequentially: the player automatically reverts to first song.
Also, the volume function works only when not editing a playlist/song list. Once you load new songs and try to play those, volume control is lost. People say this app is better than Apple’s Remote (which has its quirks) but this makes VLC Remote not worth the $5 upgrade. Stay on the free version because it actually works as advertised. Very disappointed.

### 4/5 — Alles VLC oder was?

*2019-01-05*

### 5/5 — VLCremote

*2018-12-22, version 10.2*

Been running VLCremote on iPAD 3, controlling VLC running on Rasberry Pi 3 b+, running Raspbian for a couple of days. Works like a charm, really pleased I bought it. The interface is easy t use, lots of features. Very cool :)

### 4/5 — Seems to work well

*2018-11-14, version 10.2*

Had a little trouble getting started, but now it’s good. Instant pause/resume, volume, etc. Also file browsing and probably a whole bunch of stuff I don’t know about yet

### 2/5 — Pointless, still have to use mouse

*2018-11-13, version 10.2*

Bought this to controll VLC on a Mac mini on my TV. The only way to make it work is to use the mouse to wake the computer, so why not just use your mouse in the first place. Nothing like or as good as the remote that controls iTunes, this one wakes the computer. Waste of cash.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Apple watch

*2022-03-05*

Why is the Apple watch control not working anymore??

### 1/5 — Doesn't work with Linux

*2019-08-20, version 10.2*

You'll be able to connect to a Linux VLC instance, and the website has instructions to do so, but it fails to read the directory so it's effectively useless.

### 1/5 — taugt nichts

*2019-07-28*

das Geld hätte ich auch wegwerfen können. Ganz nebenbei muss man die Firewall deaktivieren.

**Developer response:** Hi,
Sorry this didn't work out for you. I'd be happy to help if you want to get in touch. My email address is in the settings in the app.
To be clear - you definitely do not have to disable your firewall (though your firewall has to allow the remote to 'talk' to the computer you want to control)

### 1/5 — No more Apple Watch support?

*2019-05-22, version 10.2*

Seems now there’s no Apple Watch support

On iPad doesn’t show the playlist anymore and shows incorrect title of what’s actually playing

When is this app going be updated

### 1/5 — Déçu

*2019-01-10, version 10.2*

### 1/5 — Apple Watch?

*2018-06-05, version 10.2*

Good app but silently removed Apple Watch support.

I used VLC Remote every day until this change.

### 1/5 — Apple watch app not getting installed !!!

*2018-04-26, version 10.2*

Was it an upgrade issue? It was working fine even a week ago !!

### 1/5 — Lag time, unreliable

*2018-03-19, version 10.1*

This is not a VLC product...since they used VLC’s logo I thought it was.

I wanted to be able to control my laptop remotely for a performance. I paid 5 dollars for this app. It sort of works, but not reliably. Doesn’t recognize my laptop sometimes. I press PLAY and nothing happens, then maybe 9 seconds later the file starts playing, and stops, and starts. Ugh, so annoying.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with Linux Mint

*2017-11-07, version 9.31*

I have been through all of the troubleshooting steps and it doesn’t work. I checked my firewall, and manually added my computer to the app, but it still can’t find my computer. The online troubleshooting guide suggests using Setup Helper, but it took me a while to figure out that there is no setup helper for Linux. It’d be nice if they’d let you know that. However, the manual setup in VLC preferences was simple. It just won’t work. I guess that’s $5 down the drain.

### 1/5 — Not a good app

*2017-05-02, version 9.23*

I used to like VLC Streamer. A few days ago was forced to upgrade. Bought the Remote App. Devices won't connect to my PC anymore through this App. I won't recommend this App to anyone.

### 5/5 — Another superb app from VLC

*2023-06-29, version 10.70.3*

Loke VLC, VOC Streamer, Remote works very well, is convenient and effective. Donno what could be better. I recommend 100%

### 5/5 — Still the first and the best…

*2021-11-15, version 10.70.3*

Back when iPhones were a new deal, back before Plex got easier to maintain, people mostly used one app and one app only to maintain their private video libraries: And that would be VLC aka VideoLAN . Video LAN as in Local Area Network , where we could network several home computers, and share all of the media. Where we could network several home computers, share all of the media libraries, create multitudes of playlists and then have ongoing movie playback for days and days and years even. And wouldn't such an app require a remote control for us couch potato types?

Enter VLC Remote. Now we could have access to every cool feature of VLC: change aspect ratio, language, alternate streams, we could play back DVDs, Blu - ray's, MKV, FLV, AVI, WMV, MP4, MOV, and many other obscure formats that (OGG) all play back beautifully from one app . I had the privilege of beta testing this app for a couple of years and a lot of the cool features in this app I remember discussing, in fact the way that it is now is the direct result of a core group of us who used to bounce ideas back - and - forth between us and the developer . Who is a great guy and he even put out a "VLC remote classic " for me and one other person and I still have that installed in one of my devices. There was even a "headset mode", an EXPERIMENTAL FEATURE with skull and cross bones warning , which works actually pretty well except that you have to manually sync up the audio on the hand devices to what's playing on the TV, but it does give you a way of having a headset on from 20 feet away and you don't have to have a 50 foot headphone cable. Is headset mode still there? YES- I was just using it. These days most of the cool things that we were able to do with VLC we can now do with Plex media server, and so I feel badly that from my perspective this app has fallen along on the wayside to the point where my iOS 11 App Store automatically offloads the app on occasion But whenever I do finally fire up VLC on my home network, I still use this app to manipulate it rather than having to get off my rear end, drag my butt over to the computer and mess with the interface there, in fact the combination of VLC Remote and Mobile Mouse/Unified Mouse gives me the ability to fire up VLC from Mobile Mouse and then I can move to VLC remote to access the app. Lately the developer has been creating something called the ChillRemote which actually can give you a Remote for things like Netflix and Amazon and YouTube and it works pretty well.

(Older Reviews)

No need to go into all of the technical details I squished in to my reviews before, because just about every function available on the VLC Windows app can be accessed through here. I am not so sure about the VLC “store app” which functions a little differently, I haven’t tried to control that app remotely with this app. Which gives me something to do, I will update this review as soon as I have tested that feature out... Actually I DO need to get into all of the nice gritty details about this app, fooled you! Oh yah. If you are having trouble with this app, then the problem is you, not the app. Because this integrates into VLC so perfectly that you hardly have to do anything, except run the set up helper. Also I wonder how many of you are trying to use this on the Windows 10 “Store App”- raise your hand? WRONG. You cannot use this app with the Windows 10 store version, you have to actually download the desktop app from the VLC website, otherwise forget it. I just checked. There is no mechanism within VLC remote to access the windows store version and there’s nothing in the windows store version that would allow you to connect to it with a remote, so mainly, don’t even bother with the windows 10 store version of VLC.

(Old review) This app has been perfected beyond all expectations , so there isn't much else that can be said about it . I have been using it lately to watch TCM via an on demand M3U.

(to " Sifu_Char " : You CAN use VLCr on more than one iPhone , as long as all devices are connected to the same local area network . You can even use VLC Remote on two iPhones and one Android if you have it installed on there as well . The set up for VLC Remote only needs to be run once , after that you can connect as many devices to VLC as you have devices that have VLC remote installed on, and they don't all have to be iPhones. The android app detects VLC after it has been set up just like the iPhone version . Hope that helps . )

### 5/5 — Perfect for my remote playback

*2021-09-10, version 10.70.3*

Must buy full version if you use VLC!!!🎉🙏🏻👍🏽.
Thanks VLC

### 5/5 — Very good

*2021-06-22, version 10.70.1*

Way better than using VLC directly for playback.

### 5/5 — Works Great

*2021-05-05, version 10.60.1*

Have had this app for years money so well spent.

### 5/5 — Total klasse....

*2020-11-30*

### 5/5 — Stupendous

*2020-10-06, version 10.51.0*

I use it all the time!

### 5/5 — Convenient

*2020-08-14, version 10.4*

Been using this app for years. Works seamlessly and is very convenient. Thanks VLC for everything you do and have done for decades

### 5/5 — Works well but buggy on occasion

*2020-06-06, version 10.2*

Certainly better than remote4vlc but is sometimes buggy - forgets all my bookmarked folders every few weeks. Last update 2 years ago, maybe time for an update ?

### 5/5 — Subtitles selection does not work

*2020-05-07, version 10.2*

Subtitles selection does not work
