## What is vMix Virtual Control Surface?

vMix CS is a software control surface for controlling the video switching program vMix. This app enables you to control vMix from anywhere within your network. vMix CS also provides the feel of a traditional hardware switcher. Simply press the IP address within vMix CS and type in the IP address of the computer running vMix.

vMix Virtual Control Surface Features:
-512 preview buttons
-512 program buttons
-512 overlay buttons
-512 audio input faders
-512 audio input meters
-512 mute input buttons
-Toggle Master, A-G bus assignment for audio

******NOTE****** The host vMix computer must have its network set to "Home". Setting this to "Work" or "Public" will block vDesk from connecting to vMix. This can be changed by right clicking the network icon on the bottom right of windows and selecting "Open Network and Sharing Center". In the Network and Sharing Center, the network that you are currently connected to will be displayed along with an icon. Under the name should list the current security setting. It will either list "Home", "Work" or "Public". To change this setting, click on the link below the network name and a new window will pop up. In this new window, select "Home Network".

******* User experience may be poor if WiFi signal is poor

### 1/5 — Keep closing

*2023-11-06*

I don’t why but the app keep clossing

**Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem with the app closing. Please send an email to Seth@thecloudmediagroup.com and we will help you with this issue!

### 4/5 — Great product, I have a suggestion

*2021-10-17*

Having all the inputs available is great, I have 57 inputs. On the VMix host I have the inputs categorized with the colored tabs so I can display only the set that I want to see. This functionality would be great on the iPad. I can implement the user button on the iPad to only display the subset that I want to display, but it only changes the host computers display. What I really want to do is restrict which inputs the iPad display (i really don’t want to change what the host computer displays). Although the categories on the host should control which one display. A couple of solution might be; 1. Just color the inputs on the iPad the same as the host (at least quicker to find them) 2. Add buttons that correspond to the tabs in VMix to restrict which inputs display.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately the information that vMix passes through their API doesn't include these input groupings, so there would be no way for our app to know what inputs are in what groups. Thanks for using the app!

### 4/5 — Update is good but needs to stay connected

*2021-06-20*

Update: i like a lot of new features with the newest update but I hate if I leave the app and go to another, you have to hit the connect button to reconnect. Then there’s a slight delay before being able to control anything. Very frustrating when trying to swap mics quickly. The old version did not make you reconnect each time.
I can control vMix from my church pew! I get to sit by my wife in church again. Thank you. Can you please add an update and add the default iPad clock and battery at the top of the page?

### 5/5 — Useful app with responsive developer

*2021-04-29*

Updating my review to 5 stars. I had an issue with the app crashing. I emailed their support email and Seth (the developer) called me directly to help troubleshoot. Turns out it was an issue with my configuration in VMix. If you’re having issues, retrace your steps through the tutorial.

The app is solid and provides a very responsive and intuitive digital control surface for VMix. I love the audio controls and routings options.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the great review! Glad we could get your configuration figured out so we could get the app working.

### 5/5 — Great App for vMix

*2021-04-20*

I’ve been using this app for more than a year. Takes a lot of vMix complexity and puts it on a simple to use and intuitive graphic interface. The recent upgrade makes it even better than before. Thanks Seth.

**Developer response:** Thanks for using the app and for the review! Glad it has been working well for you.

### 1/5 — It’s become useless

*2021-04-19, version 4.0*

Previous version was brilliant. I used mostly as an audio desk. Realistic faders which responded instantly to your touch and level meters which accurately replicated the vMix screen. Now there is ridiculous latency in moving the faders, which have taken on the appearance of some DJ toy. The level meters often 'stick', so are next to useless. This is a really bad app now.

### 1/5 — Does not connect to VMix

*2021-03-31, version 3.0*

The app doesn’t work. I can connect to VMix using any browser but not this app. Truly disappointing! Wasting time and money.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2021-02-17, version 3.0*

Keep trying to connect. vMix Web url is correct but app won’t connect. Useless

### 5/5 — Solid app

*2021-02-11*

Works terrific. Wish that more buses were available to view/control

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! The new version allows you to do that!

### 1/5 — Freezes while connected

*2020-11-15*

When you’re not actively using is for a few minutes’ it freezes and stops working. And you can’t reconnect while streaming is on going. Such a waste

**Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. What iPad version are you using? How reliable is your wifi?

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 4.2 — 2021-06-02

-Updated the process of connection to vMix
-Removed disconnection from the app. Previously, if the connection to vMix was "lost", the app would clear all the buttons and faders letting the user know that it may be disconnected. That has been removed as it is being redesigned. The buttons and faders will always appear on the app regardless of connection status.

### 4.1 — 2021-04-20

-Changed the Function 1-4 buttons in the video controller from "F1", "F2", "F3", "F4" in the vMix shortcuts to "SurfaceF1", "SurfaceF2", "SurfaceF3", "SurfaceF4"

### 4.0 — 2021-04-11

Many Improvements in this version were designed to better support working with large numbers of Vmix inputs (up to 512 – we may have gotten a bit carried away) and allowing you to focus on controlling only those inputs that you want to control, while hiding the rest.
