### 4/5 — Good

*2017-09-01*

I agree with another review on how the app can improve by adding more examples to further help the user get a better all around understanding of the words.

### 4/5 — good

*2017-08-08, version 3.20160815*

this is very good.

### 5/5 — Vocab Genius Is A Genius

*2017-03-30*

I love this app! It is helping me learn new and exciting words everyday. This is the vocab app that I've been seeking. The presentation of this app makes it so much fun. Kudos to the creators!

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2017-03-22, version 3.20160815*

This is helpful.

### 4/5 — Amazing Vocab Sets

*2017-03-08*

I really love how difficult and fascinating the vocabulary is, I just feel it would be helpful to possibly have a small this test at the beginning to determine what words you should build on first. I love how it's teaching me more complex words, I would just love to make sure I'm solid for all the basics as well!

### 5/5 — Doubting myself

*2017-03-01, version 3.20160815*

Actually doubting my ability to know words. I've been consistently hit with words I'm wildly unfamiliar with. Searched about for 20 minutes for some type of word learning app and this is solid. Definitely would recommend this.

### 5/5 — A Gym for your Mind

*2017-02-12*

Brainscape makes it simple to improve your mind. It postulates that recalling a fact is similar to doing a bicep curl for your brain. Brainscape tests recall differently though, using the age old flash card. You read the question, or word you must define, and after giving your answer, you turn the card over, but then you rate how well you knew the card on a 1-5 scale. This second step of asking yourself is a crucial step in learning process.

### 5/5 — Love it!!!!

*2017-02-11*

This app is so great! It gives you definitions and a written sentence so you're more likely to understand it and remember it!

### 5/5 — Easy to use and great vocabulary words

### 5/5 — A great brain teaser

*2017-01-28*

As a professor and author of articles, I am constantly referring to a thesaurus to come up with more interesting verbiage. This app is helping me learn, but more importantly, retain new words. It's a great use of my idle time waiting in airports, etc. I highly recommend this app to anyone wishing to improve their comprehension and communication.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2017-01-27*

I started using this app recently and I've already familiarized myself with many words. The layout is clean, simple, and the color coding system is a great way to organize the cards. I plan on using it often.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Good or bad

*2019-11-29, version 3.20180228*

I think it could get better with some more features and some levels.i don’t play this game much longer because it’s not worth playing. I just got a feeling that its going to waste my time on trying to figure out what they are and mean.

I am so sorry for this text

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2019-09-23, version 3.20180228*

Free app, but to see anything or use it, you have to pay to unlock the decks. Sooo misleading.

### 1/5 — Not what I thought or wanted

*2018-03-30, version 3.20180228*

Somehow it doesn’t seem to be the same as what is shown in the App Store

### 1/5 — Locked all previously opened levels

*2017-11-15, version 3.20171005*

Opened the app one day to find everything changed. I now can’t access the levels I was working on as they are all locked and require $7 to open. Change of priority, I guess.

### 1/5 — Failed at the first hurdle

*2016-02-12, version 2.20141029*

I installed the App, it required me to create an account but would not recognise my email address (hotmail.co.uk) as a genuine email format. Utterly hopeless!

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2015-04-16, version 2.20141029*

The app was perfect while it lasted. The app shut off on me while Studying and now it won't load again without crashing. I tried redownloading the app completely and the problem remained. Please fix this problem I enjoy the app.

### 1/5 — What a rip.

*2013-10-02, version 2.20130919*

I payed $11 for this and now it has locked all the 'levels' and wants me to pay an extra $6 every time I want to unlock a new 'level'. You have got to be kidding me.

### 2/5 — Not impressed

*2013-07-14, version 2.20130415*

Before I have updated this app I had all the list unlocked when I updated it all but the first to list was unlock

### 3/5 — Boring

*2017-06-13*

Word difficulty is a thumbs up, but that is all. It is just flashcards. No multiple choice. No fill in the blank. No puzzles. I choose how hard they are, but that is based on my opinion. I move at my own pace, but there is nothing to motivate my learning. Not even a gold star. Plus, this style of vocabulary learning does not offer a true understanding of how to use the word in a sentence structure, which ultimately I think is half the goal of an expanded vocabulary.

### 4/5 — great app, could be even better with a couple improvements

*2018-01-15*

I enjoy using this app and found it so useful that I bought the full version. definitely worth it imo.

a few suggested improvements:

- allow audio playback of each word (adds another dimension for learning )
- when listing synonyms of words, use words learned from the other vocab sets already in the app (repetition/ review learning)
- add antonyms for words (another way to help learning)

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Awesome, but not perfect.

*2020-06-15*

The app is great; the algorithm put in place to repeat words until you get a grasp of them is brilliant.

Problem is, some of the definitions that you’ll learn aren’t necessarily what you’ll find in a Webster’s Dictionary, which is kind of bizarre. I get it that they’re trying to keep the definitions to a minimal amount of words to help with memory, but many of the definitions seem to be just too short and vague. Then there are some definitions that seem to be a little off...

For example, in the app the word “circuitous” is a noun, and defined simply as “roundabout,” meaning literally a roundabout that you’d drive through. Circuitous can include a roundabout in certain contexts, but it is used mostly as an adjective, and more specifically it means “having a circular or winding course.” Put into a sentence, you could use it as “we took a circuitous route to grandma’s house.” It can also mean “not being forthright or direct in language or action.”

Not a huge deal, but it makes me wonder what other words on the app are a little off. But either way, it’s a great app. I haven’t found another that’s anything like it!

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2019-07-31, version 3.20180228*

Great supplement for your English studies!

### 5/5 — Skeptical to start but that changed

*2019-07-01*

Trust me 100% worth a try. Read the science behind it

### 5/5 — Challenging

*2019-06-19, version 3.20180228*

This will stretch and grow your verbal awareness

### 5/5 — Love this new app!

*2019-02-03*

Just wish it were a simple yes or no to repeat the word again instead of a rating.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2018-10-30, version 3.20180228*

I’m learning more words right away

### 5/5 — Understanding

*2017-11-10, version 3.20171005*

This is a great app to increase the knowledge of understanding the meaning behind the words we speak! In other words...Great APP!

### 5/5 — Seriously great

*2017-08-30*

I was told that my english grade wouldn't get up if I didn't learn and start using more advanced words, this has really helped!

### 5/5 — Increase your vocab with this app!

*2017-06-22, version 3.20160815*
