*2025-12-09*

This app completely changed my life! Now, instead of scrolling the social media feeds I learn new words. My conversations with friends become richer and so powerful! Love it!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this - really appreciate it!

Love hearing that you’re swapping social media scrolling for learning new words, that’s exactly what we were hoping for when building the app. And the fact that it’s already showing up in your conversations - that’s the best part. Keep going with your daily words!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wanted to like it

*2026-07-29*

Really don’t like how when trying to set up the widget on your Home Screen the example word the app showed “Pigs. n. Police officers”….

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We completely understand your concern, and we appreciate you pointing it out. We'll take your feedback into account as we continue improving the app and work on making the experience better for everyone. Thanks for helping us make Vocabulary Builder even better!

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2026-06-04*

Firstly, I never got the notification asking if I wanted to proceed after the free trial, was just charged. Decided to give it a go rather than complain. Subsequent to that, they have reduced the amount of things you have access to unless you upgrade to a more expensive plan. So what I’ve paid for is not what I was told I would be getting. Rubbish. Will NOT be renewing.

Updating here as the link to contact you doesn’t work.
It may be that the notifications were not enabled, I’m not sure. I would have expected an email.
With regard to the forthcoming updates, I hope they include restoring the features I signed up for. Otherwise, it’s like allowing someone to buy a loaf of bread and when they walk out the shop you go and take half of it back.

**Developer response:** Hi, and thank you for taking the time to leave feedback.

We're sorry this was your experience.
Regarding the trial reminder, could you please check whether notifications were enabled for the app on your device? We'd genuinely like to understand what happened here.

We also understand why the recent changes were frustrating. We're currently preparing a major update and have been reworking parts of the app as part of that process. We know it's disappointing when features change after you've already signed up, and we're working hard to make sure the upcoming updates bring much more value to the experience.

Thank you for being honest with us. Feedback like this helps us build a better app, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share it.

### 1/5 — App is stuck on a page with only the logo

*2026-04-29*

I did the little questionnaire thing, and when faced with the choice to subscribe, I hit the “X” in the corner. Now I just see a big “V” logo on an otherwise black screen. I closed and reopened the app; same thing.

**Developer response:** Really appreciate you pointing this out and sorry you ran into it

We’ve fixed the issue in the latest update, so the app should no longer get stuck on that screen. Please make sure you’re on the latest version and give it another try - it should work smoothly now

### 1/5 — Utterly terrible

*2025-09-18*

The word choices are terrible. Much of the sentence structure and art is clearly made by AI showing truly profound laziness. Actually horrible don’t waste your time

**Developer response:** Thanks for the candid feedback—sorry we missed the mark for you. Our word lists are hand-curated and we review example sentences for clarity. If you can share a few specific items you found off (words, sentences, or visuals), we’ll fix them. Please email us at support@learnvocabulary.io. We never stop iterating—thanks for pointing us to areas we can sharpen.

### 1/5 — Error in your test format

*2025-08-12*

Please be advised that one of your questions is incorrectly worded. Note: “What do you need to build your vocabulary…..etc.” The correct phrasing should be: “Why do you need…. etc.”
In other words, you have incorrectly used the word “What,” when you should have used the word “Why.” Now, please go and correct this FUNDAMENTAL MISTAKE!!! Jacqueline R. Harris

**Developer response:** Hi Jacqueline—thanks for flagging this. That screen is meant to ask what would help you (study plan, reminders, on-the-go lessons), not why. We see how the wording could read either way and will refine it for clarity. The “why” is covered earlier (“Which vocabulary goal matters to you most?”). Appreciate your careful read. If you have other suggestions, please reach us at support@learnvocabulary.io

### 3/5 — Vague Instructions

*2025-10-17*

It’s very pretty and the UI is nice to look at, the concept of the learning methods are nice! I just don’t know how to access them or if they exist as I am led to believe? The app says practice the words and you have a tracker that counts how often you practice but you get no instruction on how to actually do so or what it means by “practice”. Looking up and down and all over the app does not reveal anything and there is not help or FAQ section anywhere that is easily findable. So could use a bit of work on that front. But I do like the games and the weekly challenge is nice though it’d be cool to also have daily challenges as well.

**Developer response:** Update: Our beta review system is now live! You can try out our new FSRS-based spaced repetition system. Plus, we’ve added a quick FAQ section in your profile settings to help guide you through the app’s features.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! We really appreciate your kind words about the design and concept—and for pointing out where things can be clearer.

You’re right that the practice feature currently works through in-app games that let you test yourself on words you’ve already seen.

The good news is that in just a few days we’ll be rolling out a major update introducing an FSRS-based review system. This will guide you through spaced repetition, helping you review words at optimal intervals for long-term memory. Games will also become part of the new review system, so you’ll be able to practice either through quick rating options or by playing adaptive review games.

We truly appreciate your input — it helps us keep improving the experience for everyone!

### 3/5 — Nice design but slow to add new words & too repetitive

*2025-09-23*

Keeps bringing up the same 5 or 6 words despite successfully recognizing them several times, so it’s clearly not advancing based on performance. Not motivating enough to renew.

**Developer response:** Hi there—thanks for the candid review, and sorry for the repetition you ran into. The app is designed not to resurface words you’ve already seen, so what you saw isn’t expected and we’d love to investigate.

A couple tips to get the experience you want:

Lists: These are curated, fixed sets (often with the advanced vocabulary many learners request). Great for focused, high-level study.

Categories: Large, rotating pools that pull from several thousand words—use these when you want more variety between sessions.

Level up: Retake the quick vocab check (or change your level in Settings) to progress and unlock tougher items.

We’re constantly adding new words, and our next update this weekend includes more lists based on user requests. If you can share which deck repeated (and your device), email us at support@leanvocabulary.io
—we’ll track it down and make sure progression behaves as intended.

Thanks for the push—we want to earn back your trust.

### 3/5 — Issue with starting

*2025-08-02*

I was excited to expand my reading comprehension and learn more vocabulary; however, the app made it so I couldn’t start at all. I was at the last step of the starting phase when I wasn’t able to scroll down any further. I’m on phone so it might be an issue with this device’s UI.

**Developer response:** Hi Mikage — we’re really sorry you couldn’t start your learning journey. This sounds like a UI bug on some phones, and we’d love to fix it right away. If you can email us at support@learnvocabulary.io with your device model and iOS version, we’ll investigate immediately and follow up with a solution. Thank you for letting us know and giving us a chance to make this right.

Update: We're happy to let you know that the update containing the fix for the scroll down error you reported is now live in the App Store.

### 4/5 — Waste of time to find out it’s $25/mo

*2026-08-26*

Bait & switch deception on pricing

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your feedback! Just to clarify for anyone considering the app: all of our vocabulary words are available to explore and learn for free. A subscription is only needed for additional Premium features.
We’d also genuinely love to know what you were hoping to find in the app or what would make the experience more valuable for you. We’re always listening and using feedback like this to make Vocabulary Builder better.

### 4/5 — Subscription

*2026-06-30*

I think this app is a very good app, but I also believe that they withhold too much from learn learners without a subscription, I can’t even look at my history or change the theme without having to be reminded to pay twenty dollars, I believe if this changes this will be a great app and I will share it with other, as of the moment though I don’t fully recommend.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback.

We're really glad you enjoy the app, and we also understand your concerns about some features being behind the subscription. Finding the right balance between offering a great free experience and supporting ongoing development is something we're constantly working on.

We're currently preparing a major update with lots of improvements, and feedback like yours plays a big part in shaping what comes next.

Thanks again for giving Vocabulary Builder a try. We truly appreciate your honesty, and we hope you'll enjoy what's coming in future updates.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — relevant vocabulary choice

*2026-03-23*

Didn’t think I’d stick with a vocab app, but this one is different. It’s simple and the words feel relevant.

**Developer response:** Appreciate this, thank you! We put a lot of thought into choosing words that actually feel useful in real life, so it means a lot to hear that. Glad you’re sticking with it 🙌

### 5/5 — discovering new words

*2026-03-22*

This app made me realize how many cool words exist that I’ve never heard before. Petrichor was one of them and now I notice that smell every time it rains.

**Developer response:** Love this, thank you!

Petrichor is such a good one — and yeah, once you know it, you can’t un-notice it! Really glad the words are sticking with you like that. That’s the best part

### 5/5 — Great vocabulary builder

*2026-03-22*

Really useful vocabulary builder. I like learning a few new words every day without feeling overwhelmed. Great for improving English step by step.

**Developer response:** Love that approach — just a few words a day adds up faster than it seems. Glad it fits into your routine without feeling like too much!

### 5/5 — Really useful app

*2026-03-18*

The daily word notifications are actually useful, i learn 2-3 new words a day without it feeling like studying. The curated lists for GRE prep are solid too. Only wish i could customize the notification times more easily, but overall a great app

**Developer response:** This is great to hear, thanks!

Love that the daily words and GRE lists are working for you. We’ve recently updated the notification settings to make them easier to customize - would love for you to check it out.

### 5/5 — Easy to stick with

*2026-03-18*

Started using it without any real plan, just wanted to improve vocabulary a bit. What I like is that it doesn’t pressure you, just jump in for a minute and still feel like you did something useful.
Some words repeat more than I’d like, but at the same time it probably helps memorizing. I catch myself recognizing words I learned here in real life, which is a good sign

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing this — really appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

We tried to keep the app easy to jump into, even without a plan, so it fits naturally into your day. Glad that part is working for you. And great point about the repetition - it’s something we balance on purpose for memorization, but we’re also looking at ways to keep it feeling fresh.

Love hearing you’re starting to recognize words in real life - that’s the best sign it’s working!

### 5/5 — at least im trying lol

*2026-03-18*

I’ve been waiting to improve my vocabulary for a while but I literally don’t read at all so yeah 😅
this felt like an easier way to at least do something instead of nothing
Also the design is actually nice like it doesnt feel boring or heavy so I don’t mind opening it. Not say it’s gonna magically fix my English lol but at least im trying a bit ✨

**Developer response:** Thanks for this - love how real it is! We really tried to make the app feel simple and not overwhelming, so it’s great to hear it works that way for you. Small steps still count. You’re doing great ✨

### 5/5 — Vocabulary issue

*2026-03-14*

Many of these words no longer exist or are rarely used; they are no longer part of modern English, so this list isn't useful for learning everyday vocabulary

**Developer response:** Thanks for pointing this out - really appreciate the honest feedback. We aim to keep the vocabulary relevant and useful for real conversations, so this is something we take seriously. We’re continuously reviewing and updating the word list to make sure it reflects modern English. If you have specific examples, we’d love to take a closer look.

### 5/5 — A must-have for word lovers

*2026-03-10*

I’ve tried plenty of vocabulary apps over the years, but this one stands the most. Each word comes with a clear definition, example sentences, and even audio pronunciation, which is a huge help for non-native speakers. My vocabulary has noticeably expanded in just two months of consistent use. Highly recommend.

**Developer response:** Really appreciate this, and big thanks for sticking with us for a couple months!
Glad the examples and audio are making things clearer - that’s something we care a lot about. Great to hear your vocabulary is expanding. Keep going!

### 5/5 — Entertaining Vocabulary Builder

*2026-01-12, version 3.1.0*

The gamified aspects of this app make learning new words entertaining. It’s a great way to build my vocabulary while having fun every day!

### 5/5 — Fun Learning Experience

*2026-01-11*

I love the interactive approach of this vocab builder! It makes learning new words feel fun and less daunting. Highly recọmmend it for daily practice!

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for this!
We wanted learning new words to feel simple and something you actually want to open daily, so this is great to hear. Glad you’re enjoying it
