I hope they add this feature in future updates. It needs to shows likes, comments subscriptions and views. I’m constantly on the go and love being able to access rich content at my fingertips. I’m a big fan of the lifehack community, which kind of reminds of a subreddit I’ve been following for a while. I’ve only published a few stories on Vocal, but I consistently come back to read the new top stories. I guess I’m more of a Vocal reader? Anyways, im a HUGE fan of the app, since I no longer have to remember to visit the website, and just have the app on my iPhone Home Screen, along with Instagram, Reddit and the other “news” apps. So far they’ve updated the app almost every week which is cool to see. Waiting to see if there are new things to do on the app as opposed to the Vocal website, but congrats Vocal… You’ve made it my iPhone first app page. ### 5/5 — Great for on-the-go readers *2022-11-11, version 1.5.0* So convenient for traveling or anyone that’s on always on-the-go! Can’t wait for new features! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Needs updating *2025-09-08, version 1.11.0* I’m a new Vocal user and the app looked okay superficially. However, it is very basic and needs updating. 1. Despite being logged in, the ‘library’ view does not show the people I previously subscribed to on the web before installing the app. 2. There is no way to search for stories, topics, or people. All you can do is browse by community - not ideal with thousands of articles. 3. I changed my username and can no longer use the app. Even after deleting and reinstalling, it tries to log in under the old name and fails, with no option to edit my login details! Hence my editing this review to downgrade from 3 stars to 1. ### 1/5 — Fraudulent Charges DO NOT SIGN UP FOR VOCAL *2025-01-28, version 1.11.0* I deleted my account in 2023 - with a confirmation email from Vocal that my account no longer existed - and got a charge on my credit card for $99 in Dec 2024. I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company; however, because I had used Vocal in the past, they ultimately decided not to reverse the charge. I do not have an account to even log into Vocal. I tried to request a password to my email and nothing. They are making fraudulent charges on peoples accounts without having a membership, and I am not the only one. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR VOCAL!!!! ### 1/5 — Customer service is terrible *2024-10-04, version 1.11.0* I was charged after canceling my membership 5 days prior to renewal. Then 2 weeks later money came out. Have been trying to chase customer service and nothing. Clearly just one sided company that doesn’t care about its customers. Gross. ### 2/5 — Stories from around the world? *2024-04-17, version 1.11.0* This is an app that connects to story tellers around the world and I am unable to find one story that is not in English. ### 2/5 — It would be better If *2023-11-03, version 1.11.0* It be better if creators could use this app to contribute to Vocal. A lot of the people on vocal contribute anyway. It’s frustrating that you can’t edit or submit anything on the app. ### 2/5 — Needs improvement *2022-08-30, version 1.1.0* I downloaded this thinking it would allow me to make stories from my phone, which the app doesn’t let me, wo that’s a bummer. I can see this get closet to the website in the future though, so I’ll change my review then. For now, 2/5 ### 2/5 — Good But… *2022-08-19, version 1.0* I want to preface this by saying I love Vocal and all that it does. This app is very clean and easy to navigate. BUT. I wish it did more. As it stands currently, it’s virtually useless for creators. I can’t use it to upload or manage my stories in any capacity, check stats, or basically anything. Even as a reader, it offers very little compared to the website. I can see Top Stories and any authors I’m subscribed to and that’s it. I can’t browse categories or search for anything in particular. The website’s features that allow users to browse is part of how new and unestablished authors gain readership. The app doesn’t allow that. In fact, it even punishes them. Only authors you are already subscribed to and authors who are lucky enough to get a Top Story are rewarded as the app stands now. I think an app for this website is a great idea, but I haven’t wanted to interact with it since downloading it because of the huge drawbacks. It makes way more sense for me to open up the website in my browser. And that just isn’t the mentality you want anyone to have when interacting with your app. ### 3/5 — A Much Needed App, but Still Missing Things *2024-01-22, version 1.11.0* Is it hard to add a “+” button for when you’re in the spur of a creative moment and you want to post on Vocal from your phone? Not sure why that wasn’t implemented already… 🤷🏼‍♀️ seems like a bad business move to me to not add that. Please roll out an update for landscape/iPad compatible formatting! This is a must! Your community will love you even more.. There are so many times I wanted to just grab my phone and read a story well I had a few minutes to kill. That’s the great thing about Vocal - there is so much great content that can be read quickly. Since downloading this app I’ve already spent so much less time scrolling through mindless sites, and find myself more and more popping in to read a few articles throughout the day. It’s so easy to access in app form, right on my home screen, and altogether just a valuable discovery tool for me as a reader (so far.). excited to see what else they release feature-wise. I enjoy reading on the Vocal app instead of mindlessly scrolling on my social media apps. There is a huge variety of communities to choose stories from which fits perfectly for when I want to switch from reading something educational to a fun fiction short story.
