### 2/5 — Beware: Badly broken

*2026-07-28, version 15.6.1*

Update: developer contacted me claiming battery drain is an
iOS 26 issue. Odd that no other app I use performs like VoiceMap, so this seems like an excuse to me. The playback stopping/tour quitting was not mentioned in the dev’s reply.

Used VoiceMap on two trips to Italy more than a year ago and it was great. But on a recent (26-07) trip the app performed terribly. Audio kept stopping during the tour, on my iPhone 17 Pro. Happened at least 5x in about an hour. About half the time the app had quit/crashed. And the app drained the battery on 2 17-series iPhones absurdly fast! Lost about 75% in just 2 hrs.

### 2/5 — Super buggy and steals your money

*2026-07-12*

The app is a great idea and the content is generally great. However the app itself is very buggy. Changing the speed of the narration creates overlapping audio, and it’s nearly impossible to allow a child to purchase a tour through a request to a parent because the download flow is interrupted. My kids ended up charging me multiple times for the same download and Apple refused to refund at least one of those multiple downloads. These are really awful bugs and you ended up converting someone who was enthusiastic to someone pretty upset by the overall experience. Whether this is ultimately Apple’s fault or VoiceMap’s fault I don’t know, but the experience was decidedly negative.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. We'd love to try and address the two issues you've pointed out, but more info would be a great help. Changing narration speed shouldn't lead to overlapping audio, but every tour is different and if you were to drive a walking tour – for example – there are instances where this could happen. Could you please send an email to support@voicemap.me with the name of the tour and whether you were speeding up or slowing down the audio? As for the request to a parent issue, this isn't something we've explicitly tested. But Apple in-app purchase is an imperfect system with all sorts of frustrations for developers. If you're buying for a group, I recommend doing so at voicemap.me, where there is a flow especially for this. If you've been overcharged, we'll do what we can to help. Again, the best thing would be to email support@voicemap.me. Thanks!

### 2/5 — All tours need payment!

*2026-07-05, version 15.5.1*

### 5/5 — Coimbra tour

*2026-06-29*

What a great way to tour through Coimbra. The cost is right, the navigation and timing perfect, and the guide clearly articulates the important historical information along with tips on access to venues. Highly recommended if you want to avoid large groups or expensive small group tours.

### 5/5 — Peaceful and Informative

### 5/5 — Want to save some big bucks?

*2026-06-17*

What an amazing idea for an app! Download this app for your own personal tour guide to hundreds of cities and towns around the world!
We’ve used this app multiple times in Europe and have not been disappointed!
Tired of the cattle car excursions offered by cruise ships? You know, the ones where someone or two from your group of 30+ gets lost, or stuck in the bathroom line…
Not with is app! Just you, and your bestie sharing you earbuds and having a private, at your own pace, tour! Stopping for coffee or gelato when you want!
Kudos to whoever thought this up! Fantastic!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-06-16, version 15.4.0*

Great App - first used at the Culloden Battle Field in Scotland. The story was well paced and informative and gave the visit depth and meaning! Loved it will use again.

### 5/5 — A Splendid Tour Of St. Simons Island

*2026-06-14, version 15.4.0*

Anyone visiting St. Simons would thoroughly enjoy this beautifully narrated tour. You will get an incredible overview of the history of this Island while enjoying the scenic views along the way. This is the perfect introduction to St. Simons Island and will help you decide which other attractions you want to explore while visiting.

### 5/5 — Immersive

*2026-06-14, version 15.4.0*

This is a great way to tour a new city, guided by a local with clear instructions and great stories!

### 5/5 — Multiple cities - great tours

*2026-06-10*

We came across VoiceMap by accident when we missed a local walking tour in Salamanca. Since then we’ve used it in every major city we’ve travelled to on our campervan tour it’s been epic. Can’t recommend the highly enough and suggested it to many of our friends. The ability to take the tours at our own pace sharing a pair of earbuds has been great.

### 5/5 — Annapolis Walking Tour: Where History Meets the Water

*2026-06-09*

This was the third VoiceMap tour I’ve done and while the other two were excellent, this was my favorite. The author did a fabulous job of bringing the city to life through engaging stories and interesting comments. It is obvious she is passionate about the city. The tour takes you to various historical sites in a logical manner, starting and ending in the main downtown area. Pay attention to the directions while walking. They are detailed and will keep you on the right track and use the map only as a backup. The author brings history to life and explains the significance of Annapolis during the revolutionary war period as well as the contributions of enslaved people. Standing on the spot where Kunte Kinte was sold into slavery was chilling. I highly recommend this tour which takes only about an hour but is filled with so much information. After the tour we went back to explore some of the places mentioned in more detail. Going into the State House to see the room where George Washington submitted his resignation was a highlight. Actually reading his original letter with the markings and edits he made, forced me to reflect on this historical moment in our history. This tour will not disappoint. You can go at your own pace and not worry about keeping up with some tour guide or dealing with other patrons monopolizing the tour. Kudos to the author.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-06-08, version 15.3.0*

I’ve done multiple voice tours so far and loved all! So much so that I helped with a funding request.
Strasbourg was particularly good!

### 5/5 — A great way to explore

*2026-06-02, version 15.3.0*

VoiceMap is a fantastic way to explore a new city or hear interesting stories, all at your own pace.

### 5/5 — Clever app

*2026-05-29*

This app can be a godsend when visiting a new place, giving you access to an audio tour to introduce you to the city as you stroll around it.

I am sure some guides are better than others, but my initial experience this week has been incredibly positive. The audio guide I used had made very good use of the GPS tracking to start up as you reach a turn or site he wanted to talk about…made the whole process incredibly easy.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bait and switch. Not free but advertised free

*2026-07-11, version 15.5.2*

Absolutely terrible, zero stars. I consumed my data roaming to download their app after seeing their claim free.

### 1/5 — Extremely disappointed

*2026-06-24, version 15.4.2*

Downloaded San Gimignano Guide. Started in front of the church as required, and was never able to make it work from there. Directions sent me down wrong streets, I was never able to pick it up correctly, and a very annoying voice kept telling me “some people get lost in life.” I’m off to Siena tomorrow and will be downloading a different guide.

### 1/5 — Non functional

*2026-05-25, version 15.2.0*

App buttons don’t do anything, can’t download any tours, and even the previews will freeze after playing for 5 seconds. Don’t waste your time or money

### 1/5 — Peu mieux faire

*2026-05-24*

Appli instable sur Androïd.
Certains parcours peu intéressants…

### 1/5 — Get Rick Steves

*2026-05-04, version 15.0.6*

Every tour must be bought. Expensive. Get Rick Steves instead.

### 1/5 — Not as expected

*2025-06-23, version 14.2.0*

The app was not user friendly and kept telling me I was lost. Advertised as self guided but it would not let me skip places or start tour from where I was in the list of sites.

### 1/5 — Terrible app and no refund

*2025-06-18*

Very bad no extensive guide and you can’t get a refund

Update: In response to your respond be aware there is no refund. The developer said contact Apple and Apple said it’s not eligible for refund

**Developer response:** I’m not sure what you mean by “no extensive guide” Dan, but we do offer refunds. We’re responsive and as helpful as possible on support@voicemap.me. Please get in touch!

### 1/5 — Your did not download after being charged.

*2025-06-09, version 14.2.0*

Not helpful

### 1/5 — Confusing to purchase, in reliable in use

*2025-04-11, version 14.0.1*

It was confusing to purchase ( I wound up paying twice). Tgen, when walking as directed, the GPS was unreliable, sometimes not keeping up with me, and other times repeating the description of the last place after instructing me to move along. I am really disappointed in this app. I purchased the Memphis version.

### 1/5 — Worst UI Ever

*2025-02-08, version 13.1.9*

DO NOT USE THIS APP. It has the worst UI I’ve ever experienced. It makes you start a tour from only one location, regardless of where you enter. I had to walk half a mile from where I entered the Roman Forum, and was forced to exit the park, only to have to stand in a long line to enter again. And then the app directed me to parts of the site that were closed and would not advance if I didn’t.

This app should provide audio from WHEREVER THE PERSON IS, since it has GPS. For 20 Euros, I expected much more. Zero stars.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy listening tour guide.

*2026-08-14*

Love the ease of use of the app. I didn’t have to look at the phone’s screen because of the clear instructions. I could just listen and walk at my own pace. Using the app is easy and it made my short experience in Bremen very easy.

### 5/5 — Little África Black History walk in Rio

*2026-08-10*

Excellent Introduction to the local history in Brazil

### 5/5 — Amazing Tours of Your Favorite Places

*2026-07-27, version 15.6.1*

This app is awesome. You can use it to walk-cycle-drive some of the best self-guided tours in the world. It always works great. We love it!

### 5/5 — Incredible

*2026-07-23, version 15.6.0*

Everything about this tour of Mantua was superb! I only wish I had discovered this author (Mike Corradi) earlier in our trip so we could have enjoyed his tours of other towns in Italy. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Amazing game changer

*2026-07-22, version 15.6.0*

This app is brilliant - I’ve used it all over Europe and it is now my first stop when exploring a new place

### 5/5 — Travel at your own pace

### 5/5 — ★★★★★ A must-have experience for visiting Meiji Jingu.

*2026-07-19*

★★★★★ A must-have experience for visiting Meiji Jingu.

This audio guide transformed my visit from a simple sightseeing trip into a meaningful cultural journey.

The storytelling helped me understand the history, rituals, and philosophy behind Meiji Jingu in a way that I could never have learned by walking around alone. The GPS-based guidance was very convenient, allowing me to focus on the scenery and atmosphere instead of constantly looking at my phone.

A beautifully created tour that I would recommend to every traveler visiting Tokyo. Thank you for creating such a wonderful way to connect with Japanese culture.

### 5/5 — Wonderful concept!

*2026-07-15, version 15.5.2*

What a fantastic model! We often book tours when we travel but they are often expensive and we have to fit in the guide’s schedule. This is such a lovely concept.

### 5/5 — Excellent app!

*2026-07-12, version 15.5.2*

Have used the app for two audio tours in Poland. Excellent tech, depth of content and narration.

### 5/5 — Great app for vacations!

*2026-07-10, version 15.5.2*

I’ve been using this on vacations for about 4 years now and really enjoying it. Whether it’s the Coliseum in Rome, the loop in Chicago or Latin quarter in Barcelona, I always learn something new and interesting about the cities or areas we’re visiting. It’s a neat and inexpensive way to explore new places.
