### 1/5 — HORRIBLE.

*2025-08-29, version 4.12.0*

PLEASE update this app. It’s extremely frustrating that I have no other option but to download the app but when in the app it does not allow me to even access my assignment. DO BETTER.

### 1/5 — The WORST app out there!!

*2025-08-25*

This app is so frustrating!! My professor required us to upload a video recording every week and each time it would “encounter fatal error and need to close” or some other glitch after I had recorded an 8+ minute video. Didn’t help that my professor didn’t understand the technology or how to view submissions any other way, but a severe disappointment of an app especially to be paired with a successful and clear app like Canvas. Please clean it up!

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2025-08-07*

University decided to use this for our capstone project and it couldn’t have been any slower any clink or any clunker any non-responsive pages. Every single hassle that you could ever possibly think of came from this app because it feels like the creators just created it and then abandoned it immediately because the servers don’t respond after like any sort of reasonable time if you’re trying to access the app at a time where the servers are just super slow there you’re gonna be waiting hundred hours. There’s nothing that frustrates me more than when university decides to dump a bunch of money on a stupid app that doesn’t make any sense when we could obviously a much more reliable app that cost I don’t know $.99. It’s unfathomable for me to believe that this app is still being used for things. I was the developers would consider why the app actually has one star and probably work towards creating a more responsible, accessible, user-friendly, and easy to use app to submit an assignment with the voice thread attached to it. It should not be this hard. Come on get it together. We’re in the 21st-century. We should be able to make an app that is super easy and can literally be accessed at any time. thank you have a good day.

### 1/5 — Always logs me out and crashes

*2025-06-29, version 4.12.0*

Not sustainable, crashes and logs you out google accounts. Sometimes server errors!

### 1/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2025-06-23*

This application is terrible. I have installed and uninstalled this app multiple times on my relatively new phone and still cannot seem to access my course material. This needs to be addressed. Also, I can’t seem to access this through my browser either which is strange as well. I don’t know if there is an issue with using this on the iPhone but it does not seem to work.

### 1/5 — CRASHES ALL THE TIME

*2025-06-18, version 4.12.0*

I’ll have the app on and it crashes every few minutes. It’s so annoying to do schoolwork on

### 1/5 — It’s just a web browser lol just use safari

*2025-06-16, version 4.12.0*

It’s literally just safari

### 1/5 — This app is trash

*2025-06-16, version 4.12.0*

I have created 3 different voice threads just for all of them to not save, it has wasted so much of my time and I still haven’t even finish my assignment.

### 1/5 — This app is awful.

*2025-06-09, version 4.12.0*

This app simply does not work. On the off chance it actually lets you log in, assignments don’t load correctly, videos don’t load correctly, and heaven help you if you actually want to post any comments or content. It should be a crime for professors to make using this godawful platform mandatory.

### 1/5 — Terrible app! Barely works!

*2025-06-08*

This product is great in theory but it is terrible for actual students. I've just spent the last half hour uninstalling and reinstalling this app, just to get it to let me see the VoiceThread I need, never mind contribute anything to it. The website works just fine on a PC but VoiceThread must hate Apple because neither the website or app works on my iPhone or MacBook. This is an extremely inaccessible tool for professors to be asking students to use. If you're a professor thinking about using this, I beg you to reconsider for the sake of your student's sanity. You WILL be receiving subpar work, not because that's what your students want to give you, but solely because the app is barely functioning!

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2025-06-02*

My professors post lectures through VoiceThread that I have to listen to for every lesson. I have to log in through the internet and watch them that way because this app won't load. I've had it for over a year now and most of the time I can't even get it to work. I can log in but then it just gives me a spinning wheel and never loads anything. I keep hoping they'll put out a new update and it'll work but they rarely do that, so it keeps not working. I really wish they would fix it because it's so convenient to listen to them while I'm driving and such. I'm posting this in hopes they do something about it.

### 1/5 — Utterly Useless

*2025-05-06, version 4.12.0*

Signing in with Blackboard just opens the blackboard website in the app’s web browser and doesn’t actually let you sign in. If you don’t have a desktop computer I’d recommend dropping out before I’d recommend using this app. Thanks for the waste of time and tuition money.

### 1/5 — Awful product. Dear colleges, please stop using it!

*2025-04-29, version 4.12.0*

The user experience is awful and the interface makes it nearly impossible to satisfy certain class requirements.

### 1/5 — This app is horrible

*2025-04-25, version 4.12.0*

Spent four hours trying to upload a video presentation and still haven’t been able to do so.

### 1/5 — Crashes all the time

*2025-04-18, version 4.12.0*

Does not work properly

### 1/5 — even the sign-in doesn’t work

*2025-04-09, version 4.12.0*

i can’t even sign in. i’ve tried everything, the sign-in options open webpages inside the app which then don’t transfer the data to voicethread app so i cannot log in.

### 4/5 — .

*2025-04-07, version 4.12.0*

Doesn’t let me login in mobile

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-04-04, version 4.12.0*

Worst app I’ve used. Doesn’t let me comment on anything properly and it makes no sense. If I could give it 0.5 stars i would.

### 1/5 — Trash App!

*2025-03-31, version 4.12.0*

Absolutely trash, almost unusable. It made my screen keep flashing for half a minute, absolutely garbage!!!

### 1/5 — Why is this an app?

*2025-03-27*

By far the most useless platform my professors force me to use. As a university student, Canvas and D2L ate more than enough to substitute this third party platform. The platform glitches, it feels like it was made in the early 2000’s with the layout and bugs that it has. Honestly, why are professors incorporating with this platform if it has so many glitches and lags all the time, trouble shooting, problematic issues with internet engines such as Safari, Chrome etc?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2025-10-09, version 4.12.0*

Forced to use it by my University bc they have a partnership with VT. It's awful

### 1/5 — terrible app

*2025-10-05, version 4.12.0*

worst app ever. I would give it 0 stars.

### 1/5 — Horrible APP

*2025-09-28, version 4.12.0*

The fact that the last 5 star review I could find was from 13 years ago!!! Shows how outdated this app really is. It doesn't even load anymore.

### 1/5 — Terrible!!!! I would put 0 stars if I could

*2025-09-23, version 4.12.0*

I had to use this for Chinese class and it won’t show the pictures this is the worst app ever

### 1/5 — Worst App I’ve Used

*2025-09-22*

This is absolutely be the most unintuitive app I’ve ever used. There are straight up just buttons you’re unable to click when trying to submit assignments. The web version is only marginally better. I uploaded a video for an assignment, and on multiple occasions, the video content never loaded. I pray universities and government entities stop using this because they use it as a tool through canvas, when canvas literally has the ability to upload videos to it. Atrocious app

### 1/5 — Buggy and frustrating to use

*2025-09-20, version 4.12.0*

Colleges and universities choose the worst applications

### 1/5 — Not user friendly

*2025-09-17, version 4.12.0*

Navigating this platform is extremely challenging, with frequent glitches and timeout issues. I had to attempt uploading a single video ten times! My professor mandates its use for our ASL class, and in my experience, it's undoubtedly one of the worst platforms available. I would rate it a 0/10 and strongly advise against using it.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-09-17, version 4.12.0*

For the Love of everything good on this Earth please fix the bugs I cannot have 70% of my assignments time being wasted on faulty clicks.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on Apple

*2025-09-07, version 4.12.0*

Doesn’t work on Apple

### 1/5 — Fix this

*2025-08-29, version 4.12.0*

I’m literally trying to do this for a class and I don’t know why my professor recommended this because it’s not working

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I just pooped my pants

*2024-01-18*

I just pooped my pants

### 5/5 — Works for my online class

*2018-01-07, version 3.0.57*

The reviews made me skeptical, but after downloading and using it, I learned it worked for my needs. I have a class that uses this and wanted to use my iPad. It worked better then my Lenovo laptop for making the video discussions off our website. For my Economics class, this worked for the cost which was free but functional.

Thank you!

### 5/5 — great

*2013-08-17, version 1.3.1*

works well great app so useful in presentation wise and keep improving it

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2013-03-08, version 1.3.1*

Just got the app for my ipad 2 and already loving it. Its very easy to learn especially if you have watched the tutorials provided on the actuall voice threads website. There are also plenty of tutorials within the app as well. I have done several tests on saving and deleting of images and thus far have had no issues.

From reading other reviews people were stating crashes, the only crash I am experiencing is a "session has timed out" message which is easy to fix since you just need to log back in.

For those of you that are having trouble with the app it self as far as crashing, as for any app a simple way to fix that problem is make sure all your background apps are off, specifically the apps that run off the internet: twitter, facebook and so on.

Also I am using this for an English class project, no I am not being forced.

I must say I wish I knew about this sooner for I could have used this for so many different projects.

### 5/5 — Virtual Treasure

*2011-10-13, version 1.0*

Today I got the email from VT that their app was out! So of course I grabbed it. VT has been my go to tool in the primary school I worked in for assessments and sharing tech work done by my k-2 students. Digital microscope images, readings of original stories, images and commentaries of field trips- easy, accessible and teacher friendly. And when the app was up and running on my phone, every thread was there - voices and images alike.
I can't wait to write in the iPad app for the new online class I'm about to design.
Love ya VT - always have. Sue

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2011-10-12, version 1.0*

Seamless transition onto the iPhone iOS. Great program for an already fundamental website to any tech-savvy teacher.

### 5/5 — Great teaching tool

*2011-10-12, version 1.0*

Rather than having 9th grade students create tada tables and graphs and hitting "print," I have them narrate their graphs on VoiceThread. It is so easy for students to gather data, record data, generate a graph (often by following directions or by having a peer help them through), and ultimately have very little understanding of the information that was collected and that is being presented in the graph. By forcing them to narrate the graph, I get a better feel for the students' understanding of the material. Some students tell me that as they start narrating, they notice errors in their graph or missing labels and information. Otherwise, they would have just hit "print" and have given any additional thought to the process. A good narration is short and concise. Yes, it might take longer to "grade" than a paper datasheet and graph, but I believe there are significant advantages.

VoiceThread on my iPhone and iPad gives me more flexibility in reviewing student work. I'm no longer tied to my computer. Now only if there is a "grade" feature integraded with my electronic gradebook on my LMS...

### 5/5 — Amazing Interface

*2011-10-12, version 1.0*

I am a 6th grade teacher and I use voice thread for presentations in science, social studies and math. I have been sitting at home reviewing voicethreads as my family goes through their morning routine and the ability to do so on my iPhone has completely expanded how much time is available. Because I don't have to be at a computer, I can review and make comments in any 5 minute window of waiting I have. I love the voice comment interface. It is easy and fun. I can't wait to show off my students work to everyone in the copy room this morning!

### 5/5 — Eureka!

*2011-10-10, version 1.0*

I am an art history instructor who has used VoiceThread since 2007 to foster warm, participatory, online learning experiences. It has changed my approach to teaching, reinvented the possibilities of online learning, and empowered my students. Images, voice, and text work together to stimulate different areas of the brain, resulting in increased memory retention. VoiceThread support the needs of far more students than lectures and videos combined. The slick, easy-to-use app is long-awaited. Try it. You'll like it. And you'll be dazzled by how easy it is.

### 5/5 — Well worth the wait...

*2011-10-07, version 1.0*

I've been a teacher using VoiceThread for some time now and awaited this app for many months.
I've already interacted with my existing VT's and created new ones and the app lives up to expectation.
Having the drawing tool is a surprise bonus and a great feature!
Plays existing VT video and audio very well while smooth and simple still image VT creation within the app using own photo album makes this a very versatile tool!
Huge potential - and great product from VoiceThread developers.
And it's free - what are you waiting for?!
