### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2026-07-28, version 23.8.0*

Love this app been using it for years now.

### 5/5 — Excellent for Triathlon

*2026-07-27, version 23.8.0*

I’m a former pro triathlete and was recommended this app for strength training. It’s excellent and would recommend. It’s just the right amount to make progress and prevent injury, but not enough to wipe out your main sport focus. I recommend to friends and athletes I work with.

### 5/5 — Can we get landscape view for the iPad version?

*2026-07-27, version 23.8.0*

I love the app but it would be much more easier to use if we could get a landscape view for the iPad app. It is irritating having to take your iPad off the keyboard to exercise.

### 5/5 — Omg!

*2026-07-27, version 23.8.0*

I can’t believe how beneficial this app is for getting you back into working out. Easy! Buildable! The workouts go by super quick. I have also notice improvement and strength right after my first workout. Thank you <3

### 5/5 — LOVE !!!!

*2026-07-26, version 23.8.0*

I’ve been using Volt since college volleyball out of season training…10 years ago!! Love it. Wondering why the calories burnt disappeared from the app? Otherwise still amazing

### 4/5 — Good App but gets boring

*2026-07-19, version 23.8.0*

The app is nice and offers lots of different workout plans based on your fitness goals but it gets VERY REPETITIVE and boring. You do the same stuff for weeks on end and not really much change on the workout routines.

A bit pricy price point for doing the same exercise each week

### 5/5 — Best Workout App for Athletes

*2026-07-14, version 23.8.0*

Hands down the best workout app out there for athletes. Love that it cycles through phases and builds in unload weeks. Great that it tailors you plan based on your sport too.

### 5/5 — Seeing results

*2026-07-12, version 23.8.0*

Going on my 2nd year of using Volt as an individual (vs through a team). Tried others (eg Fitbod) but found that this one was the most flexible with the most reliable AI. Bottom line is I’m seeing results.

### 5/5 — Favorite app

*2026-07-10, version 23.8.0*

As a sports performance and Nutrition Coach, I absolutely love this app! It makes it easier when I don’t really feel like making my own plans/programs. So this is a nice app to give my mind a break from my clients. I’ve seen huge improvements in my ability as a soccer player.

### 5/5 — An easy to use no nonsense app

*2026-07-01, version 23.8.0*

I downloaded this specifically to improve my functional fitness to aid Tennis. I follow exactly what the program says and I feel like it serving the purpose. I really like the fact that it seeks feedback on how the load felt and corrects the loading accordingly therefore ensuring progressive overloading.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a utilitarian functional training app which takes away the need to think before starting a workout.

### 5/5 — Volt

*2026-06-23, version 23.7.0*

This app is great! It has really helped me take my sport to the next level and adapts to my mood so I don’t overtrain! Also takes out the thought process of looking for varied workouts to do in order not to get stagnant. Great app! Glad someone recommended it to me!

### 5/5 — This is my most valued app

*2026-06-22*

I’ve trained for years and tried a wide range of programs, but Volt has provided the variety and consistency I’ve always been looking for. The ability to adapt workouts to my situation has been fantastic. Whether I’m on holiday with no equipment available or training in a fully equipped gym, the app delivers workouts that match my goals, experience, and the way my body has evolved over time. It’s the most flexible and effective training platform I’ve used.

### 5/5 — Excellent Planning Tool

*2026-06-22*

I’ve used Volt for about 3 years and have been really happy with it. The plans are appropriate and flexible based on goals and equipment on hand. It takes the thinking out of strength training and lets me focus on the training.

**Developer response:** Three years and still going strong, that is wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for sharing this. Taking the guesswork out of training so you can just focus on putting in the work is exactly what we set out to do. We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to many more years together!

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-06-20, version 23.7.0*

I have been using this for years, I see a difference.

### 5/5 — App works

*2026-06-19, version 23.7.0*

I have been using this app for years after using the “old pen and paper “ documentation method of recording workouts. The app tracks everything and keeps it for a couple years so you can look back at what you have done.

The app pushes you (you may cuss it on some days ) but if you are an athlete or ex-athlete like myself, you want something that challenges you!

Last, the app gives you plenty of options to change a lift or movement. For example, don’t have the equipment for wide grip pull ups, the app will have six options that work the same group of muscles. Good stuff, no thinking, just work out !!!

This app helps you gain strength, flexibility, endurance, etc…. And it’s all in one place!

Thank you Volt

### 5/5 — Best workout app for athletes

*2026-06-18, version 23.7.0*

Worth the price

### 5/5 — The coach I never had

*2026-06-18, version 23.7.0*

I joined Volt after the free trial years ago and never looked back

Having a personalised program for my sport (Football 🏈) immediately ramped up my motivation and performance

Now I still feel challenged, improvements to the app are helpful, and I’m stronger than ever

### 5/5 — Simple and effective

*2026-06-18, version 23.7.0*

I coached soccer for 35 years and first used volt as a tool to help train teen athletes. I use the app myself and it keeps me fit and is a great tool for steady progression and improvement. I feel better than I have in several years.

### 5/5 — Sport specific workouts

*2026-06-18, version 23.7.0*

I like the sport specific workouts, like combat sports and/or wrestling. Still needs more customization for cycle to be able to save sets and reps that are not the default for if you need less volume but still want to keep the workout.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2026-06-18, version 23.7.0*

Keeps me on track, helps me monitor growth and helps to hold myself accountable. Has helped me to not lose weight but to strengthen and get more fit.
Seriously - I’m 54 and in the best overall shape I’ve ever been in. Not some muscle / meat-head but overall strength and wellness.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Horrible customer service paid $129 for the year and can’t log into my account

*2026-06-05, version 23.3.0*

Don’t waste your time with this app

### 1/5 — App support and Password reset

*2026-05-04, version 22.11.0*

App is great to use when I can login… Spending freaking $130 for a subscription and I can’t even login tried to reset my password several times and it will not go through and I know I’m using my right email. Would not recommend this to people.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-03-21, version 22.0.0*

Charged me immediately for what said it was a. 3 day free trial

### 1/5 — Great Workout Programming Held Back by Stagnant Tech: A 10-Year User’s Perspective

*2026-02-26, version 21.10.0*

As a Volt Athletics user for over a decade with more than 1,000 workouts logged, I have a deep appreciation for this platform. However, despite the quality of the training, the infrequent updates and missing "table stakes" features have become increasingly difficult to ignore.

The Pros: Elite Programming & UI

• Professional Programming: Volt offers some of the best athlete-focused programming available. The movements are excellent, focusing on performance and injury prevention through standard, effective mesocycles (Strength, Hypertrophy, and Unload phases).

• Intuitive UI: The app is clean and easy to navigate mid-workout. Each movement includes detailed instructions and clear visual GIFs.

• Cortex AI: This is Volt’s standout feature. It manages volume and weight based on RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) and handles progressive overload calculations automatically—a rare find in the current app market.

• Supplementary Content: The library of warm-ups, primers, and conditioning drills is extensive and serves as a great substitute when you're short on time.

The Cons: Missing Features & "Coach-First" Limitations

• High Cost, Low Innovation: At up to $20/month, the lack of new features is glaring. There is no smartwatch integration (Apple/Android) and no browser access for individuals to manage their plans—functionality that was previously available but is now restricted to "Coach" accounts.

• Outdated "AI": While marketed as AI, Cortex feels more like a regression algorithm than modern machine learning. In the current landscape, the absence of a "Volt Coach" chatbot for stat reviews or form checks feels like a missed opportunity.

• Rigid Library: You cannot create custom movements. If you use a Belt Squat or a specific commercial gym machine not in their library, you’re forced to "alias" it as another movement, which can skew the algorithm.

• Community & Transparency: Unlike competitors like Strong or Hevy, Volt lacks a user forum or subreddit. There is no public roadmap, leaving users in the dark regarding future development.

The Bottom Line:

Volt is clearly a "coach-driven" company. While their focus on injury prevention and solid programming is admirable, the development side is lagging. It appears they prioritize their B2B "Team/Coach" sales funnel by gatekeeping features that should be standard for individual users. I don’t understand the logic of making the individual app worse to drive their coach platform business, which I doubt is effective.

While I still use Volt out of habit, the value proposition is thinning. In an era where LLM integration will soon make professional programming trivial to replicate, Volt needs to modernize its tech stack to survive. Unless they shift their focus toward the individual user experience, I recommend looking elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Predatory unethical business practices

*2025-11-10*

I used the app years ago and I remembered it as a pretty good one, so I decided to look into possibly using it again. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they offer a 14 days free trial before subscribing for a year at a pretty steep price. However, as soon as I initiated the free trial my card was charged for the full year subscription. How does that even make sense?

This is a very non-transparent, highly unethical and predatory business practice. I most certainly won’t support it and am in the process of requesting a refund.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and I am really sorry for the frustration this caused.

Apple only allows one free trial per app per Apple ID, so if you previously used Volt and redeemed a trial, Apple will automatically charge when you resubscribe, even if a trial is shown. This is fully managed by Apple, and we are unable to control billing or refunds. Apple Support can assist with your refund request and next steps.

We understand how this can feel unexpected, and we appreciate you bringing it up. If you have any questions on our end or would like help exploring options in the future, please feel free to reach out.

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2025-03-31*

Used to be $79.99 with 0 upgrades to the old app no way you should be selling $179.99 a year

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your perspective. We understand how frustrating a price change can feel, especially if it does not seem tied to visible improvements. Pricing updates reflect continued investment in the platform (we have come out with many new features this past year!) and long term support, but we hear your feedback on value and will pass it along to the team.

### 1/5 — App is broken

*2024-12-17, version 5.16.0*

Every time you phone goes to sleep, the apple health permissions screen pops back up when you open it every time and you have tonreallow permissions

### 1/5 — Customer service nonresponsive and app button to fix issue doesn’t work

*2024-04-02, version 5.6.1*

When logging in the app says I need to switch to an individual account but the button to switch on the app doesn’t work so I’m logged out of the app. I emailed support and requested support on the website and neither have been answered.

### 1/5 — Can’t listen to music while using

*2023-05-29, version 4.23.0*

Just opening the app causes my music (regardless of which music app I’m using; e.g., Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud) to pause. During the workout (especially during the rest periods), the music will just shut off, too. I prefer a workout app that doesn’t make me workout in silence.

### 1/5 — Not user friendly

*2021-09-17*

Just absolutely not user friendly. Can’t modify parts or all of the workout without wanting to smash your phone. Using it for a charity work competition and I do not love it.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear the editing experience has been frustrating. We've been actively building out more in-workout editing tools, and there's tons of new cool features! If you can share specifics with support@voltathletics.com (which workout, what you were trying to modify), we'd like to get that in front of the team.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — All what you need

*2026-08-20, version 24.1.0*

Very positive app, the work starts with the individual and I love that it starts at the beginning level strengthen while building as you develop.

### 5/5 — Please make an Apple Watch app

*2026-08-18, version 24.1.0*

Great platform - used it as a college athlete and continued using it for years, although it would be much easier to use if there was an accompanying Apple Watch app

### 5/5 — Some additional features that I would pay for

*2026-08-15, version 24.1.0*

Hi Volt team, I really enjoy using this app! I posting here again hoping your team would see and apply some ideas that would make it even better (for me 😅)
1. I like the gif like visual which shows how to perform a certain exercise. If along with that gif, you can show which muscles (primary and secondary) that exercise is going to affect, that would be awesome!
2. I keep switching gyms depending on where I am at. If there is a way I could scan the gym such that the app identifies the different equipments present in the gym and tailors my workout to perform the planned training but with the available equipment, that would be a game changer
3. The app lets you choose the sport we are training for. If it can include more compound workouts that sort of replicate the mechanics and movements in the sport rather than just isolating the muscles involved, that can be really effective in reinforcing muscle memory/feel on top of strengthening.

Thanks for reading! Keep up the good work!

### 5/5 — Revolutionary

*2026-08-12, version 24.1.0*

Volt has fundamentally transformed how I train. The personalized workout plan I’m running with my trainer allows me to get the exact weight training balance I need with my busy work schedule. It’s easy to follow, and I can pick up new forms from the demos (especially helpful for kettlebell workouts). Highly recommend, would use again.

### 5/5 — Awesome work

*2026-08-11, version 24.1.0*

Great tailored plans

### 5/5 — Incredible App

*2026-08-11, version 24.0.0*

I’ve been using this app since 2019 and have logged over 1500 workouts. I would highly recommend this app!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-07-29, version 24.0.0*

I love the freedom and clarity the app gives. Choose from a multitude of programs and equipment that fit your lifestyle. Breaks down to under $10/month and it’s basically a personal trainer in your pocket

### 5/5 — So helpful

*2026-07-28, version 23.8.0*

The videos, guides, countdowns, rest periods… all of it help take the guesswork out of working out and allows me to just focus on the gains. 💪

### 5/5 — Best training app in the game.

*2026-07-28, version 23.8.0*

10/10

### 5/5 — Volt

*2026-07-28, version 23.8.0*

I’ve been using Volt for almost 5 years now and the development this team has put into quality of life upgrades is impressive. I use their lean muscle workouts to help get me ready for Elk Hunting season and the super sets and structure of the workouts should be a golden standard. Love this development team and app, thank y’all!
