## What is VOSIS?

VOSIS is a synthesizer combining audification of greyscale pixel data with several image filters. It is a tool for image sonification, visual music composition, and experimental sound design. The audification of pixel luminance values creates shape-timbre relationships. Pixel scan rate is controlled in terms of note interval, octave, and scale to give varying pitch between image regions. The ADSR envelope allows one to play images as a non-linear sequence of pitches with varying wavetable/timbre.

For more features including presets and unlimited recording see VOSIS Pro.

### 5/5 — Cool app

*2023-06-23, version 2.1.2*

Really nice app

### 4/5 — A real breakthrough

*2022-08-14, version 2.0.7*

Previously, the only way I’d found to sonify images involved laboriously loading them into an obscure part of Logic. It was a drawn-out and clunky process and once you generated a sound, you couldn’t do much with it.

So I’ve waited a long time for something like VOSIS and it’s all I hoped for. Real time sonic manipulation of images that can produce surprising, fascinating results (though as someone else said, the tonal range could be wider). Still, sounds can always be tweaked further, and extracting and manipulating the first sounds from images and even video can be done really swiftly. There are a couple of glitches and it could perhaps be a bit more intuitive, but overall it’s great and I’m sure it will keep evolving. I’ve already used it successfully for a live show and look forward to seeing what new sounds and inspiration it can give me in the pro version.

### 5/5 — It’s back and better than ever!

*2022-04-14*

The Pro version adds very useful and creative features. If music and sound from the fringe is your thing, this is a must have!

### 1/5 — Broke

*2020-10-26, version 1.1.1*

Seemed like a great app. Several videos I watched about it made it sound really unique. Unfortunately it no longer functions. Tried deleting and redownloading. But no dice. 😞

### 1/5 — Broken

*2018-07-24, version 1.1.1*

First time I tried to load one of my own images the app crashed and I could never open it again from then on .... deleted!

### 4/5 — Update to 1.1.1 broke this app

*2017-12-01, version 1.1.1*

App was working just fine until the update to version 1.1.1 occurred. Now the app opens, but no audio is heard. Wish it didn't update itself to this broken version. Now it's just another app bought and paid for that needs to get deleted from my iPad. Sure wish developers would make sure their apps work before releasing updates that only break a previously working app. This was a lot of fun to play around with before this stupid update.

Update: after deleting the app and reinstalling it again all is well and working as before. Hooray now I can once again make those industrial sounds I have grown to love with this app.

### 4/5 — audiobus

*2015-09-20, version 1.1.0*

I love this thing, it's great if you take time to tweak parameters etc, but audiobus has not worked for a while. any chance of an update that does?

### 5/5 — Barrel of monkeys=Vosis!

*2014-05-12, version 1.1.0*

Loads of fun for anybody, though some users will be unfamiliar with some features, such as the ADSR Envelope. But just randomly messing with them is very entertaining. I imagine more interesting features are in the pipeline.

### 4/5 — Different!

*2014-05-07, version 1.1.0*

Interesting app. Like the idea, good sound. Needs a bit more added for more sonic expression. Perhaps use colour to express oscillator types etc.

### 4/5 — Like it

*2014-03-20, version 1.1.0*

Hey cool app here. Great concept and nice sound engine. I wish it were a little more sonicly diverse though... The drone layering is cool but starts to all sound the same rather quick. Perhaps some new parameters to tamper with would make this a 5 star app.
