VOSIS is a synthesizer combining audification of greyscale pixel data with several image filters. It is a tool for image sonification, visual music composition, and experimental sound design. The audification of pixel luminance values creates shape-timbre relationships. Pixel scan rate is controlled in terms of note interval, octave, and scale to give varying pitch between image regions. It was a drawn-out and clunky process and once you generated a sound, you couldn’t do much with it. So I’ve waited a long time for something like VOSIS and it’s all I hoped for. Real time sonic manipulation of images that can produce surprising, fascinating results (though as someone else said, the tonal range could be wider). Still, sounds can always be tweaked further, and extracting and manipulating the first sounds from images and even video can be done really swiftly. There are a couple of glitches and it could perhaps be a bit more intuitive, but overall it’s great and I’m sure it will keep evolving. I’ve already used it successfully for a live show and look forward to seeing what new sounds and inspiration it can give me in the pro version. ### 5/5 — It’s back and better than ever! *2022-04-14* The Pro version adds very useful and creative features. Unfortunately it no longer functions. Tried deleting and redownloading. But no dice. 😞 ### 1/5 — Broken *2018-07-24, version 1.1.1* First time I tried to load one of my own images the app crashed and I could never open it again from then on .... deleted! ### 4/5 — Update to 1.1.1 broke this app *2017-12-01, version 1.1.1* App was working just fine until the update to version 1.1.1 occurred. Now the app opens, but no audio is heard. Wish it didn't update itself to this broken version. Now it's just another app bought and paid for that needs to get deleted from my iPad. Sure wish developers would make sure their apps work before releasing updates that only break a previously working app. This was a lot of fun to play around with before this stupid update. Update: after deleting the app and reinstalling it again all is well and working as before. But just randomly messing with them is very entertaining.
