### 4/5 — Awesome, but a little rough

*2013-01-25, version 1.1*

This game brings back good memories, and plays almost identical to the bold digimon keychain toys. Unfortunately, the new training mode is obnoxiously difficult, and almost impossible to time right. The formulas for taking care of your pet seem a bit wonky too. You generally dont have anything to do until your little guy poops, then suddenly everything needs taken care of all at once. Really excited to see what improvements they make with gen 2

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2013-01-08, version 1.1*

Great job im proud of this app and i love every second of gameplay, youve earned this dollar and all i ask is for more evolutions to come but keep it retro

### 5/5 — Oh my glob

*2013-01-08, version 1.1*

It's my childhood all over again. I wish there was more training options and more guys that looked like gabumon(Jp) But all in all good game.

### 5/5 — Great

*2013-01-05, version 1.1*

Been waiting for years to get back to this childhood fad

### 5/5 — Most Faithful

*2012-12-10, version 1.1*

One of the 2 best retro virtual pets in the app store, this is the most faithful to the little keychains of old. Hatchi is also really good, but if you are looking for something just as challenging as the originals, this is your best bet. Demanding, fun, and faithful to the originals, vpet gen1 is the best option out there.

Ryan, way to stick by the inspiration. There are other virtual pets on the market. What you have made is unique in that it does not have loads of new features and options. Don't be tempted to overwork your product. Well done indeed.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2012-12-07, version 1.1*

Really enjoy playing this. Brings back memories.

### 5/5 — Cute

*2012-11-19, version 1.1*

Fun to play with now and then. I really like the Game Center battle feature.

### 4/5 — I'm a kid again!

*2012-11-09, version 1.1*

This app isn't meant to satisfy someone who wants great graphics. This app is for those of us who had a digimon let back in the 90s. I give this 4 stars. It will turn into a 5 if they add new features that won't ruin nostalgia.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2012-11-07, version 1.1*

It's the best virtual pet! I think that the only thing that should be updated is the ability to see your opponent during an online battle through Game Center.

### 5/5 — Come one come all

*2012-11-07, version 1.1*

Gather around as I inform you about a great game called vpet gen1. Remember your tomagchi or you hand held digimon game that you had to shake and remember back to when you thought that you could sit on the dryer to evolve faster bc your arm was tired. Well no more cramped up arms with the same amount of fun come play. Join us lol;)

### 5/5 — Don't look a gift horse in the mouth~

*2012-11-06, version 1.1*

Love the app.. I'm not reply sure why everyone is complaining about not having the original digimon characters. The game is already such a great version of it and deserves to stand on its own, in terms of visual creativity. Great job. Can't wait for V2!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2012-11-06, version 1.1*

Great game but wish I would of found the pause option sooner

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage ripoff

*2017-01-29, version 1.4*

This does everything that the Digimon keychain games did, but calls itself a "retro simulation" instead of "worthless waste of time" or "developer has no ideas."

### 2/5 — Too buggy

*2021-01-27, version 1.6*

I loved this when I got it years ago, but now it’s just super buggy. It pauses randomly and if the app is closed it resets your mon. Please fix

### 2/5 — Energy?!

*2013-02-19, version 1.2*

I love this game and it's exactly like the 90's game but my VPet is now 3 "years" old and still has absolutely no energy and is being perfectly taken care of. Otherwise I'd give 5 stars.

### 3/5 — Confusing

*2012-11-05, version 1.1*

I had to get my dad to get the egg to hatch, and that took him like 5 minutes because he was randomly pushing things. I still don't understand everything but this game is still pretty good.

Update: ok now im seeing the problems.

1. the pause won't work

2. Sometimes when you feed and train your pet all the way, it will reset to empty

3. I don't want to wake my pet up to train.

4. THIS APP WILL NOT LET ME SLEEP!!!

Btw: can they die? I sure hope not, because that would make me sad 😓

### 3/5 — Can't pause holding 3 secs on screen

*2012-11-03, version 1.1*

Other than that this is a great app. Please fix there are times I can't be checking the app like when at work

### 4/5 — Pause sistem doesn't work

*2014-06-19, version 1.3*

I'm sorry, but this pause sistem is definitely not working.

### 4/5 — Care mistakes

*2013-06-26, version 1.2*

It's a fun app and I like it but I have it 4 stars because I wish there was a way to see how many care mistakes you have made. It would be a great feature but other than that I thinks it's awesome

### 4/5 — Volume?

*2013-03-08, version 1.2*

Oh how I miss my Pattamon... Only one problem: why can't I shut the volume off???

### 4/5 — Love it

*2013-02-23, version 1.2*

It's awesome but I hate that it forces me to download the gen2 to get energy, I don't want to pets because that would be too time consuming.

### 4/5 — Nostalgia in an App.

*2013-02-12, version 1.2*

I love the app as its very nostalgic for me, and it brings back fond memories of raising a Metalgreymon in the original digipet. I love the cross-game center battle feature as it makes PVP much easier. The graphics are very accurate and stylized like the originals. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is the training mini game. It's nearly impossible to get 100% consistently. It needs to be modified where it's 80% or better breaks the wall. Otherwise, it's an amazing app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Please please please add a pause button!

*2020-11-17, version 1.5*

The instructions say to hold down onto the screen for 3 seconds to pause the game but I do that and... nothing happens... Gen 2 has a pause button and I think Planets has a pause button as well but I can’t remember. In Gen 2, you don’t have to hold down on the screen, you just press the pause button whenever you want to pause your pet which is super useful when you’re not around to care for it, allowing it to live longer. Also please put Vpet Slide back as well, it was a very simple game but I got a lot of enjoyment when I had it and it had really cool music too. And if it’s in development, I would love to have a Vpets Gen 3, and maybe even one in color!

### 5/5 — It almost feels like I have a Digivice again!

*2014-07-15, version 1.3*

For those of you who can't pause it go under the IPod settings app and scroll all the way down till u see V-Pet, then tap it and you can enable the pause feature. It works for me now.

### 5/5 — Very nice!

*2014-01-30, version 1.3*

This app is an amazing replacement for the digimon tamagotchi I lost when I was a kid.

One thing: many reviewers keep saying they can't pause it. You can! Just press your finger on the screen and hold it for a second or 2 until it says "paused".

### 5/5 — Just like digimon digivice

*2013-09-27, version 1.2*

When I was growing up I owned, still own three versions of the digimon pets and this is just like that only bigger and better.

### 5/5 — Nostalgia!

*2013-03-29, version 1.2*

Perfect! I used to have the real thing when i was younger.

### 5/5 — Taken back

*2013-02-26, version 1.2*

This app definitely brings me back to being a lot younger! Even though it's not exactly the same I can't help but check it every 5 minutes haha. Even had the option to make it hold just like the one I had as a kid! Other than never having any energy it's perfect.

### 5/5 — Fantastic recreation of classic toy :)

*2013-02-14, version 1.2*

Great job on the app guys! I saw some ppl said they didn't know how to pause. .. Go to your main page, select settings, towards the bottom there will be games, select vpet gen1, then select "enable pause". Then just touch the screen for 3 seconds.

Anyways, it's a great game/toy. Brought back some good memories. I really like vpet gen2 as well. Hatchi is a decent pet, but vpets are better and more like the old tamagotchi/digimon toys.

If you don't remember theses toys type " Digital Monster (virtual pet) " into Wikipedia.

### 5/5 — 😲

*2013-01-15, version 1.1*

Brings me back to old days this is an amazing app thou

### 5/5 — Better than sliced bread

*2013-01-10, version 1.1*

My nostalgia senses are tingling, and I like it. This is just fantastic, I've had it for a day and it is my favorite thing on my iPhone, by far! Clearly made by some folks who intimately know and respect the original pets and I love them for it. Everything is perfect. Of course more monsters would be cool but I say you just do 1-5 like the original and then move on to the pendulums, jogres and all. I woke up this morning seriously jazzed about opening up this app and training my mon, but not to much, of course, as I am trying for the betamon equivalent. Finally, after reading the review from the kid who 'couldn't figure out how to hatch the egg' I think that is a very telling sign of the difference in generations. Digimon taught me patience and I'm very glad for it.

### 5/5 — U can do much more don't lazy

*2013-01-10, version 1.1*

Great game add more monsters and don't be lazy with other training games
