## What is Vurr?

Vurr uses the science of espresso extraction — combined with your real shot data — to tell you exactly where to set your grinder before you pull.

Whether you just got your first espresso machine or you’re deep into dialling in single origins on a dual boiler — Vurr takes the guesswork out of grind size and gives you a starting point you can actually trust.

How it works
Log your shots. Vurr’s suggestion engine analyses your results using extraction science and adapts grind recommendations to your specific machine, beans, and taste. The more you log, the sharper your suggestions get.

Weather-aware suggestions
Humidity and temperature measurably affect how coffee extracts. Vurr pulls real-time weather data and factors it into every recommendation using established extraction physics — so a rainy Monday doesn’t ruin your shot.

Built for your setup
Choose from 52 supported grinders across 20 brands — Niche, Eureka, Mahlkönig, Baratza, Compak, Comandante, 1Zpresso, Ceado, DF, Etzinger, Fellow, Fiorenzato, KafaTek, Kinu, Mazzer, Option-O, Rocket Espresso, Timemore, Weber Workshops, and Wilfa. Vurr knows your burr size, adjustment direction, and espresso range — so recommendations are never generic.

Your dial, your grinder
Vurr’s virtual dial mirrors your actual grinder — same numbers, same direction, same feel. Set your chirp point, finest espresso, and coarsest position by spinning the dial just like you would on your countertop. One screen, three taps, fully calibrated.

Flow rate — automatically
Every shot shows your flow rate in grams per second, calculated from your yield and extraction time with no extra input. Colour-coded against the ideal range for your roast level. The engine uses flow rate to distinguish a grind problem from a technique problem — so it only adjusts when it should.

Scan your coffee bag
Point your camera at any bag. Apple Vision reads the label on-device — roast level, origin, process method — and feeds it directly into the suggestion engine. No data leaves your phone.

Shot log
Track every pull — dose, yield, time, flow rate, taste notes, and grind setting. Your history becomes the data that makes future suggestions sharper.

For every level
New to espresso? Vurr gives you a confident starting point so you’re not wasting beans on bad shots. Experienced? Vurr documents your dialling-in process and learns your palate.

Vurr Pro
The core shot logger is free. Upgrade to Pro to unlock the full suggestion engine, weather compensation, and unlimited bean profiles. Start with a 60-day free trial — no charge until the trial ends.

### 2/5 — Wanted to like it.

*2026-05-31*

Doesn’t work particularly well and UI is not intuitive. Had a lot of difficulty finding where to add bags of coffee and additional shots because the UI is so clunky. The app seemed to forget I had already used it when I reopened it the following days. The benefits provided aren’t very useful. The app’s advice is very rudimentary and it takes longer to enter information about your previous shot than just dialing in a roast yourself without the help from AI. They shouldn’t be charging $22 a year for an incomplete app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.11 — 2026-07-24

Light mode grew up
Dark mode was always the good-looking twin. Light mode used to be dark mode with the lights left on — washed out, gold that never quite glowed.
Now it's got its own everything: a porcelain palette that lets gold actually be gold, a background that shifts temperature with the time of day, and a main button that's a deep-roast island of dark in a bright room. It looks expensive. Flip to Light in Settings and have a look.

One coffee, one opinion
Your last shot choked. It ran slow. Every screen agreed it ran slow — and then Vurr cheerfully told you to grind finer. Cool. Very helpful.
Fixed. The dial, the receipt, and the flow note used to be three coworkers who never spoke. They've had a meeting. If your shot ran slow, everything says so, and the recommendation always lands on the correct side of the pull you actually just made.

Your shots outrank our guesses
Vurr makes some assumptions about your grinder before it's seen a single espresso. One of them had been quietly overruling real shots you pulled with your real hands. It's been put back in its place. Guesses advise. Your coffee decides.

It finally notices a choke
A shot gasping through the puck is choking whether you rated it one star or five. We used to only listen once you'd dialled it in — exactly when you didn't need the help. Now the obvious stuff gets flagged from your very first messy shot.

Two backwards tips, quietly reversed
"Under-extracted — try a coarser grind" was advice from the upside-down. It's the right way up now. We won't discuss how long it wasn't.

### 1.10 — 2026-07-08

The "We Fixed The Scanner" Update
The bag scanner actually scans now. We hunted the freeze bug through five layers of iOS and won. Point it at a bag, tap the checkmark, get your dial-in. Revolutionary concept, we know.

It reads labels like a barista, not a robot. Blend names, multi-origin lists (Brazil / Colombia / Honduras — hello!), German labels, Rösterei names, even "Déjà Vu" with all its accents. And the more labels it sees, the smarter it gets.

Your beans age. Vurr knows. Add a roast date and get a freshness countdown to the peak window — plus a notification the morning your beans hit their prime. Fresh bags, aging bags, opened bags, decaf: the grind suggestion adjusts for all of it.

The dial feels like a dial now. Silky drag, a satisfying rubber-band at the ends, and hold the +/− buttons to speed-spin across the range. Your thumb will notice.

Chirp calibration got its moment. Sound waves, haptics, the works. Listening to your burrs kiss has never looked this good.

Hey Siri, what's my grind? Ask Siri for your dial-in, log a shot, or jump straight to suggestions — without opening the app. Shortcuts fans, go wild.

Plus: friendlier in-app messages instead of system popups, roast dates in any format you type them (15.01, Jan 15, we get it), and a double-shot of stability fixes.
Now go pull something delicious.

### 1.9 — 2026-06-30

The engine got smarter. The trial got longer. And we stopped pestering you.
Smarter suggestions — fixed a bug where one great shot could anchor your grind too high and never let go. The engine now learns in both directions, so if your last pull said “go finer,” it actually goes finer.

Honest breakdown panel — every delta that affects your final suggestion is now visible. No more hidden adjustments. What you see adds up to what you get.

60-day free trial — we extended the trial from 14 to 60 days. Dialling in a new bean takes time. Now you have it.

We’ll only ask once — if you’ve had a great pull and the engine nailed it, we might ask for a review. Once. At the right moment. Never randomly.

We won’t remind you about subscribing until day 54 — enjoy the first 53 days without interruption. When the time comes, you’ll get three gentle nudges, not a wall.
Keep pulling. We’ll keep learning.

### 1.8 — 2026-06-28

Turns out the bag scanner had stage fright.
Fixed: the bag scanner now actually delivers your scan — previously, tapping the checkmark after scanning would leave the app frozen mid-thought, camera button dead, image gone nowhere. That’s fixed. Scan, confirm, done.
Keep pulling. We’ll keep learning.

### 1.7 — 2026-06-21

Your beans are getting older, and now Vurr actually cares.

Fresh bean energy — Vurr now factors in how many days off roast your bag is, and nudges your grind accordingly. Day 2 jitters, peak window confidence, day 25 “let’s be honest” adjustments. It’s all in there, and it’ll tell you why.

Scan your bag like a pro — swapped in Apple’s own document scanner for cleaner, sharper bag captures. Less squinting at blurry roast dates.

Prettier extraction charts — your session history now speaks the same visual language as your shot deep dive. Gold diamonds, green circles, the whole language of a good (or humbling) shot.

Widget glow-up — tightened up the home screen widget so nothing feels cramped or floaty anymore, and the Lock Screen circular widget now shows a proper gauge ring around your grind number, just like Apple’s own weather and tide widgets. A random number floating in a circle deserved better.

The usual under-the-hood tidying so things keep running smoothly.
Keep pulling. We’ll keep learning.
