### 2/5 — Could be better

*2026-06-12, version 19.3.5*

I found the Vy app frustrating to use when trying to purchase tickets. Adding a payment method was unnecessarily difficult, and the process was not clearly explained. Only after I went to their website did I find out that for American customers, the app only accepts PayPal and American Express. This limitation was not made obvious upfront, which caused confusion and wasted time. This information should also be clearly displayed in the app for easier interaction. The app could be much more user friendly by clearly communicating accepted payment methods before customers reach the checkout stage.

### 3/5 — RE11 always in «wrong» order

*2025-09-28, version 18.1.3*

After they opened the double-track from Drammen to Tønsberg, the train order seems to have changed more or less permanently without the on-station monitors indicating where the train cars are supposed to stop, have been updated to match the new reality. (And the app could also include the train/station placement information for the departure station of the passenger).

### 2/5 — Unusable

*2025-09-17, version 18.1.1*

A ticket preview from Gardermoen to Sentral shows only 27 mins validity. It should be 2hr30.
Use machines at airport instead!

### 3/5 — Messy signup, and clunky payment

*2024-12-05, version 17.10.0*

I see the accountants strike again as they’ve given the developers no budget (because green KPI’s and bar graphs with the with profit are more important than the customer) because you can go in as a guest but have to sign up which the messy and confusing process.

Payment is still like the internet from 90s, I suppose it costs the company money to integrate / collab with Apple and Google Pay, plus it loves to unresponsive, thankfully it’s rescued by a decent train and on-board experience.

With profit over service, buy your ticket at a machine and read the screens, delete this app, it won’t getting better anytime soon!

### 3/5 — Very unreliable and puts you in the worst seats

*2024-09-02, version 17.8.1*

Thought this was great originally, and it is for planning, but often puts you in the worst seats and frequently breaks down when trying to change seats and make payments.

### 1/5 — Feedback suppressed

*2024-04-27, version 17.4.3*

I just tried submitting feedback within the app about how it shows no results (with absolutely no explanation) when you try to book 17 days ahead Stockholm to Narvik. After typing a long response, I got an error message when I pressed send. Is Vy deliberately trying to suppress criticism of its Swedish contract?

### 3/5 — Credit card/Americans & Canadians,

*2023-10-23, version 16.10.4*

Hi, Any chance you could make it easier to use PayPal? Now I have to go through all menus (stations/date/time), by the time I get to “pay”, it tells Americans etc., has to use PayPal for some security stuff.

Any chance I can get to the PayPal link through a settings link, on top? Thank you.

PS Not sure about why Americans etc., have to use PayPal. I use my credit card all over Europe, and Norway in particular, without any issues, for years.

### 1/5 — No dark mode

*2023-09-27, version 16.9.1*

No dark mode in 2023 is a joke

### 1/5 — Very buggy

*2023-06-16, version 16.7.15*

Does not work with American credit cards. Keeps hanging and have to reinstall.

### 1/5 — App crashes when displaying ticket

*2023-06-04, version 16.7.14*

After buying a ticket, the app crashes when trying to display that ticket. Pretty terrible.

### 1/5 — You can’t ignore an entire continent

*2023-04-12, version 16.7.6*

Folks, you can’t sell an app that tourists are expected to use traveling in Norway that refuses to serve hundreds of thousands of visitors from North America by not accepting credit cards from the U.S. I first encountered this problem on my last visit to Norway in 2017 so you’ve had 6 years to fix it. I’ve heard you accept PayPal, but generally only folks under 40 use it and even they have moved to other apps. I now follow several sites for travel tips to Norway and am seeing a lot of miscommunication that Norwegians don’t accept Visa cards at all. If you don’t fix this soon, it will cost the Norwegian Tourist Board millions to address.

### 1/5 — Top 10 worst apps

*2023-02-07, version 16.6.37*

It’s rare to find such a bad app in 2023. This app incorporates all the bad qualities that all users hate. It has a poor user interface, a dysfunctional transaction usability and overall instability. Use of this app should come with a warning label. Will cause frustration and headaches.

### 2/5 — New version is terrible

*2022-12-06, version 16.6.30*

The previous version was soooo much easier to navigate, this one is awful. It’s literally hard to find the time table for a route on a certain date/time

### 1/5 — Nice, but….

*2022-10-29, version 16.6.15*

Tried to book tickets from app and get an error message every time. Time wasted.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Won’t Open or show data

*2026-06-22, version 19.3.5*

VY on screen and nothing else. Downloaded on my newer iPhone

### 1/5 — Slowest app ever

*2026-01-01, version 19.1.3*

It doesn’t even work

### 1/5 — Absolutely disgusting

*2025-08-04, version 18.1.0*

Mandatory app installation and profile creation just to buy a train ticket? These people are pure trash. Will immediately delete and report as soon as the trip is over.

### 1/5 — train lines

*2025-07-20, version 18.0.1*

no matter how hard i looked i couldn’t find any train lines to look at i only found a reference number that you have to put in after buying the ticket online or in person i just want to see the train lines the stations i can go to and how that all connect but no i just have to do guesswork i mean come on i think mcdonald’s has a map that you can use so see the stores that are open i would say get it but there is literally no reason too

### 1/5 — comically awful

*2025-06-24, version 17.16.12*

The login button isn’t actually a button, but is just text. If you press it, it will highlight the words “log in”, but there’s no way to actually log in.

### 1/5 — Worst UI I’ve ever used

*2025-06-02, version 17.16.9*

The app will constantly try to verify your device and disables you from doing anything. Worst app I’ve ever as they state in the comments for tourists to use the Website and then add but you can’t even add the booking id. Please fix as this!!!

### 1/5 — Poorly designed

*2024-09-14, version 17.8.2*

«Change to sweden in the settings». Why do i have to pay in SEK when departing from Norway???

### 1/5 — App is so buggy

*2024-08-19, version 17.8.0*

Doesn’t work at all

### 1/5 — Getting worse. It’s so glitchy.

*2024-08-09, version 17.7.10*

Used to work okay by has become more and more glitchy. Now I can’t even login because it says my browser cookie setting is wrong, which is untrue. I have no problem with a single other App.
Do get this sorted please.

### 1/5 — Please add Apple Pay

*2024-07-29, version 17.7.9*

It is very cumbersome to go thru PayPal when you are hurry and need to make a quick ticket purchase at a station. ApplePay would be great!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works great… ignore other reviews

*2026-05-18, version 19.3.2*

Y’all. The app works fine if you’re literate (and you don’t even need to learn Norwegian for this—they have English, too)! The app was well made and easy to use, and had some helpful tourist information, as well!

### 5/5 — Easy to use for a non Norwegian

*2025-10-16, version 18.1.4*

Maybe the rating is low due to the age of most of the reviews but I have only had a good experience using this app. Use it every time I’m in Norway to book train and bus tickets which is very straightforward. Have had no problems so far 😌

### 5/5 — Best Public Transit App Interface

*2025-08-05, version 18.1.0*

Amazing interface. I have never left a review for an app but this app is just so aesthetically nice to use which is crazy for a public transit app. Like I genuinely looked forward to using it. Very straightforward. I have an American card and it worked fine!

### 5/5 — Very nice

*2023-12-14, version 17.0.2*

Really nice application. The GUI is slightly overloaded, but quite convenient and informative. It is also very handy that one can purchase the entire trip including the VY train, Ruter’s T-bane and a local bus. It even has a taxi, although that one goes separately, but it is still nice to have it right here in the same application.

I see several negative reviews here saying about problems with payment, and I reckon, this is about non-norwegian cards, and those indeed should be supported, I think. Meanwhile, for those living in Norway paying with Vipps works totally fine.

### 5/5 — It just works

*2023-06-26, version 16.7.17*

It just works simple as

### 5/5 — Fantastic app - essential for travelling in Norway

*2023-05-30, version 16.7.14*

First time in Norway and Vy took the hassle out of travelling about. Good prices and timings. Clear UI and journey information.

### 5/5 — Very nice

*2022-09-19, version 16.6.13*

Really nice application. It feels like a proper native application, not some web-based abomination. The GUI is slightly overloaded, but quite convenient and informative.

**Developer response:** Hi and thanks for your kind words!

Yes, we do not approve transactions with cards that don't have 3D-secure, due to security. PayPal offers transactions without 3D-secure, so we use PayPal as an options for customers having cards without 3D-secure.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-08-02, version 16.6.9*

From Australia and speaking no Norwegian, we easily travelled around Norway for 10 days using this app and were so impressed with how smoothly everything runs, how much entertainment and information the app has AND how simple the app is to use!

### 5/5 — Travel in Norway made easy

*2022-06-18, version 16.6.3*

Very nice

### 5/5 — Easy travel

*2022-02-06, version 16.5.2*

This app makes travel in Norway easy
