Poor start W. ### 1/5 — Schade eigentlich *2026-07-31* Endlich kam die Einladung zu W Social. Schnell noch die Verifizierung der Identität erledigen. Tjo, Tage und unzählige Versuche später hat das immer noch nicht geklappt. Vielleicht sind meine Ausweisdokumente unzureichend oder mein Gesicht zu hässlich, ich weiß es nicht. Gave up & deleted it. I won’t be bothering with W Social. It does not scan the passport front page and just hangs. Scanning the lines inside the password is very glitchy. So I have an invite email and tried several times, but it appears that W Social does not want me on there as their W Identity is not fit for purpose. Scheinbar wurde nur etwas hingefrickelt und das war es dann. Zur Funktionsweise kann ich leider noch nichts sagen. Leider muss man einen Stern vergeben. Dies ist das erste Mal, weil ich es wirklich nicht fassen kann, wie unfassbar schlecht diese App ist. Ich bin ein junger Mensch, der Technik affin und mit sozialen Netzwerken aufgewachsen ist. Ich hätte es als spannende Alternative empfunden, ein soziales Netzwerk zu nutzen, welches europaweit funktioniert und eine Alternative zu den herkömmlichen sozialen Netzwerken bietet. Auch finde ich den Kerngedanken dahinter gar nicht schlecht. Allerdings habe ich die App an sich nicht mal nutzen könne, weil ich es nicht geschafft habe mich dort richtig anzumelden. Der Registrierungsprozess erfordert all mein gesamtes technisches Know-how und eine extrem lange Zündschnur. Nach 3 Tagen und Mails im Spam wollte ich dann eigentlich schon aufgeben, aber mein Ego sagt mir, dass ich mich nicht von einer App brechen lassen kann. Ich verstehe nicht, wie kompliziert man einen Anmeldeprozess gestalten kann. Endlich, nach einiger Zeit habe ich es dann vermeintlich geschafft, mich erfolgreich anzumelden. Allerdings kann ich jetzt nur andere QR-Codes scannen und kann immer noch nicht das soziale Netzwerk an sich nutzen. Ich gebe jetzt offiziell auf und lasse es gut sein. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This thing is really broken *2026-08-21* I have tried, a couple of times, mostly from morbid curiosity, to do the authentication dances necessary to join W social. I don't really understand why they think their own verification application is the best way in. The handover between the two apps, and the ID scanning is glitchy, confusing and crashes. Reads the data via the camera but the "chip can't be trusted". My passport reader app has no issues so it's not the passport... Contacted support but no response. I am hopeful that this app will bring a thoughtful balance of freedom of speech, as well as options to regulate sources of intentionally false or hurtful content. W Social may be the very thing we need to enable users to choose order in a chaotic world of social media. ### 2/5 — Liest den Maschinencode des Personalausweises nicht *2026-08-01* Die Idee, sich mit der elektronischen Ausweisfunktion per NFC zu identifizieren ist gut. Leider scheitert der Schritt bei mir schon beim Lesen des Maschinencodes per Kamera auf dem Ausweis. Er zeigt einen Rahmen darum, kann den Text aber nicht erkennen. ### 2/5 — Sehr schwierig *2026-06-24* Der Prozess ist meiner Meinung nach überhaupt nicht Nutzerfreundlich. Der Ablauf ist unklar, man wird nicht durch den Prozess geführt. Man weiß nicht wo man drauf tippen soll und auch nicht wann Man zu welcher App hin oder her wechseln soll. Beispielsweise soll man immer wieder einen QR Code scannen den man gar nicht erhalten hat. An einer Stelle muss man auf einen Button hinter dem Overlay tippen, um weiter zu kommen. Das bekommt man nur heraus wenn man das Erklärvideo anschaut. Zurück auf der Anmeldedeseite waren meine Eingaben wieder weg und mussten neu eingegeben werden. Das maschinelle Auslesen der Daten auf dem Pass funktioniert nicht, es wird endlos gelesen aber nicht ausgewertet. Foto vom Reisepass + Selfie hat erst beim dritten Mal funktioniert.
