## What is Waffled?

Waffled is the calm command-center for family life. One shared home for your
calendar, chores, meals, pantry, shopping lists, and goals — so everyone in the
house is finally on the same page.

Mount an iPad on the wall or counter as a family display, and carry the same
plan in your pocket on your phone. Everything stays in sync.

• SHARED CALENDAR — Everyone's events in one view, with countdowns to the days
that matter ("3 sleeps until the trip!") and birthdays that never sneak up on you.

• CHORES & REWARDS — Assign chores, snap photo-proof when they're done, and let
kids earn rewards. Set up a rewards jar to save toward a shared goal.

• MEALS & SHOPPING — Plan the week's meals and build the grocery list from them.
Scan barcodes to add pantry items in a tap.

• PANTRY — Track what's in the house and what's about to expire, with allergen
warnings for the whole family or per person.

• GOALS — Keep the family's intentions front and center, from reading streaks to
  saving up for something big.

• FAMILY NIGHT — A customizable, auto-rotating agenda for your weekly family time.

• A HOME SCREEN THAT'S YOURS — Reorder and hide the cards on your Today view so it
shows what your family actually cares about.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Waffled is self-hostable and open source. Run it on your own server and your
family's data stays yours — no ads, no tracking, no selling your life to anyone.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 0.13.0 — 2026-08-12

OUTLOOK & MICROSOFT 365 CALENDARS
Connect an Outlook or Microsoft 365 account in Settings > Calendars and it syncs both ways, right alongside Google. Pick which calendars sync, who each one belongs to, and where new events get written. A household can mix Google and Microsoft accounts freely.

SUBSCRIBE TO ANY CALENDAR LINK
Paste a school schedule, a sports-team calendar, or a published work calendar into Settings > Calendars and its events show up on the family calendar - no sign-in, no setup, nothing to approve. Feeds refresh every 15 minutes, can be mapped to a person for color, and can be marked private. Their events are read-only, and a feed that stops working says so instead of going quietly stale.

BUILD A MEAL, NOT JUST A RECIPE
Dinner is rarely a single dish. The new Meal Builder lets you name a meal, add sides and dessert from your recipe library, set how many it serves, and pick who's cooking each dish. Schedule it to a night and it fills that slot as one meal, or just send its shopping to the grocery list. Saved meals sit in your library with their own Meals filter, and search finds them by the meal's name or by any dish in it. Tap "Add a side" to pull in another recipe; press and hold a dish to move it under another heading.

COOK A WHOLE MEAL, DISH BY DISH
Cook Mode now takes a meal as well as a single recipe. It tabs across every dish on the plate, and timers keep running as you move between them, so the rice doesn't quietly overcook while you're reading the chicken steps. Each dish remembers its own place, a timer that goes off tells you which dish it belongs to, and jumping to its step offers a "Back to step 6" pill that puts you right back where you were.

SHOPPING THAT MATCHES HOW YOU SHOP
"Add to grocery" now opens a picker, so you can add a recipe's whole ingredient list or only the parts you actually need - pantry staples are flagged as "likely on hand" rather than left out on your behalf. "7 to buy" opens into the actual ingredient names, on a recipe and on every dish in a meal. A meal shops as one thing: its ingredients group under the meal's name in the By-meal view, with a colored dot showing which night each row is for. You can also tag items with a store and flip to a By store view to shop by shop.

SHARE ANY LIST
"Share list" turns everything still unchecked into a clean text list and hands it to the share sheet, from the grocery board or a custom list's menu. Items are grouped the way you read them - by aisle in walking order, or by section - with quantities, the store, and who it's for.

SMALLER THINGS
Lists now refresh on their own while one is open, so someone checking an item off on their phone shows up without a reload. The goal Log sheet's "What did you do?" chips now suggest notes you've logged before, per person and most-used first. And the Waffled-Bite control panel keeps itself up to date while you're watching it.

FIXES
- "On hand" on a recipe now means what's really in your pantry, not just what's marked a staple.
- Recipe photos show up again on the detail hero and library cards, and you can now remove one while editing.
- Grocery quantities read like a recipe again: 2/3 cup and 1 1/2 lb, not 0.6666666666666666 cup.
- Month, Week and Day views now say which month you're looking at, with a Back to today button.
- Recurring event edits keep the whole series intact.
- "Add to grocery list" opens full height on iPhone instead of a three-ingredient sliver.
- The iPad screensaver waits instead of dropping over a keyboard you're typing on.
- Cook Mode timers survive turning off calendar reminders or signing out.
- A failed save no longer looks like it worked: countdown edits, Family Night assignments and chore photos stay put and tell you to try again.
- You can change a list's emoji from inside the list.

Thanks for using Waffled - we'd love your feedback!

### 0.12.0 — 2026-07-24

Since launch, Waffled has gotten a lot more capable on iPhone and iPad:

GOALS YOU CAN SEE
The Today goal card is now a full hero — a progress ring, each person's
contribution, and Log progress right there — with a switcher to jump between
goals. Swipe through the week and month heatmaps, and the charts now show the
true calendar week and the whole year.

SMARTER LISTS
Give items a 1–5 priority (urgent ones get a flag) and drag them between
sections. Bulk-edit a whole selection at once — set the section, assignee, or
priority, even into a brand-new section you name on the spot. Rename a list from
its menu, watch the count tick down to what's left, and let checked-off items
tuck into a Completed section that clears itself.

MEALS & SHOPPING
Jump straight into Cook Mode from the Today card and swipe between steps. Shop
ahead by planning next week's groceries without disturbing this week's, add or
remove any recipe's ingredients from the list, and share a recipe as a file
anyone can import.

CALENDAR & COUNTDOWNS
Countdowns now show up right on the calendar and are tappable to edit. Type an
event into "Add anything" and it's assigned to you by default.

WAFFLED-BITES (NEW MODULE)
A new optional module adds parent controls for a kid's Waffled-Bite companion
device — quiet time, a wake-up light schedule, a night light, a sound machine,
a morning alarm, and screen brightness — all managed right from Family on your
phone or tablet. (The companion device itself is still on the way.)

Plus a lot of polish and fixes: adding a grocery item from Today no longer hangs
the iPad, a half-typed list item is saved when you leave, add bars are easier to
tap, the goal week/year charts are accurate, and adding a meal from the capture
bar works reliably again.

Thanks for using Waffled — we'd love your feedback!

### 0.9.0 — 2026-07-21

New in 0.9.0:

• See your goal progress your way — every goal now has a switcher of views: a
week or month heatmap, a GitHub-style year grid, a pace chart showing where
you need to be to hit your target on time, a "year in a ring," and stacked
bars for family goals. Tap any day or month to see who logged what.

• Recipes can go straight to your grocery list, no meal plan needed. Add a
one-off dinner or snack from any recipe page and it merges right in with
  what's already on the list.

• The "Add anything" bar can now act on things you already have, not just
create new ones. Say "mark the trash chore done," "log 20 minutes on my
reading goal," "cross off milk," or "move soccer to Thursday at 4," and
  confirm before anything changes.

• Quick-add can also start a countdown, add a family member, set a goal, stock
the pantry, or add a reward — just by typing it in plain language.

• Track more from Apple Health: specific workout types (running, cycling,
swimming, yoga, strength training), cycling/swimming/wheelchair distance,
and a clearer picker for choosing what a goal follows.

• Swipe between weeks in the meal planner — the same gesture as Calendar and
  Chores.

Plus a batch of polish: a snappier iPad calendar, a Today screen that stays
fresh and grocery quick-add that no longer hides under the keyboard, more
reliable list creation and goal logging, a calmer Offline banner, and instant
meal drag-and-drop.

Thanks for using Waffled — we'd love your feedback!
