## What is Waimea?

Waimea is an alarm app for people who live across time zones.

Every alarm is anchored to a place. Set 9:00 AM in San Francisco and it rings at San Francisco's 9:00 AM, whether you are home, in Tokyo, or somewhere over the Pacific.
Ordinary alarms fire on whatever your phone's clock says. That breaks the moment you travel: "wake at 7" becomes 7 in the wrong zone. Waimea pins each alarm to the time zone you meant, so your routine, your reminders, and your meeting nudges all stay where you put them.

WHAT YOU GET

• Timezone-anchored alarms. Each one carries its own zone and rings at that local time, anywhere in the world.
• A world clock that holds your alarms. Saved places appear as cards with live local times.
• Real ringing alarms. On supported devices they ring through silent mode and Focus, with a full-screen Stop and Snooze. Elsewhere they arrive as notifications.
• Home Screen widgets. Small, medium, and large, showing your current time and place, your next alarm with a live countdown, and clocks for your saved cities.
• Apple Watch app and complications. Your next alarm and its countdown, on your wrist.
• Flexible repeats. Daily, weekdays, custom days, monthly, or one time only.
• Per-alarm sounds, including a classic bugle Reveille.
• Drag to reorder your places. The order carries through to your widgets.
• Made for the world. 12 languages, 12 or 24-hour time, MM/DD or DD/MM dates, light or dark.
• Sunrise and sunset alarms, with any offset before or after.

ALARMS THAT FOLLOW THE SUN

Set an alarm to sunrise or sunset instead of a clock time, and offset it however you like: an hour before sunset for golden hour, twenty minutes after sunrise, or right on the moment. The time shifts with the seasons on its own, so a golden hour alarm stays correct in June and December alike. Sunrise and sunset are worked out for each saved city from its own position, so an alarm pinned to Reykjavik follows Reykjavik's sun, not yours.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no servers. Everything stays on your device.
Location is used only to work out which time zone you are in, and it never leaves your phone and paired Apple Watch.
Set it once. Travel anywhere. Arrive on time.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-09-21

Added
• Alarms can follow the sun: choose Sunrise or Sunset instead of a clock time.
• Offset a solar alarm by any amount, before or after the event.
• Sunrise and sunset are calculated per city, so an alarm pinned to Tokyo uses Tokyo's.
• Solar alarms are marked Auto in the alarm list, as their time changes daily.

Fixed
• Dates appeared as "null" in Chinese, and were incorrect in several other languages.
• Alarm labels stayed in English in notifications, the widget and the full-screen alarm after changing language.
• Cities could only be found by their English name. You can now search in your own language: 東京, 서울, القاهرة, Москва, München or Tokio.

Changed
• The alarm editor leads with Mode, and shows the offset in place of the clock for solar alarms.
• The medium widget has a larger, centred clock, place and date on one line, and a wider column for saved cities.
• Sound names, month names and the remaining buttons now follow the app's language.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-20

New in 1.0.1:

Fixed
• On/off switches for saved locations and alarms did not respond. The change was saved but never appeared, so the switch looked stuck.
• Repeating alarms could stop after ringing once. Only the next alarm was scheduled, and iOS will not wake a closed app to schedule the one after it.
• Waimea now asks for alarm permission on first launch. Before, it only asked if you tapped a banner, so dismissing that banner left alarms unable to ring.
• Light bars along the top and bottom of every screen.
• The home location could not be deleted.

Changed
• Your current city is shown automatically, named after the nearest major city. Standing in San Rafael now reads as San Francisco rather than Los Angeles.
• New installs start empty, instead of with a sample city and four alarms to delete.
• Sheets can be dismissed by tapping outside them, and dim correctly in dark mode.

Added
• Report a Bug in Settings, which attaches diagnostics to an email so problems can be traced.
• The version number at the bottom of Settings, which opens the full changelog.
