## What is Wainuiātea?

Tēnā koe! Nau mai, haere mai!

Welcome to our Māori cultural app Wainuiātea. This app will assist you to build your confidence, knowledge, and capability to work effectively with Māori in your role here at KPMG.
The name Wainuiātea has been used for this app as it draws on the app's underlying purpose and also has a special connection to the name of KPMG's internal Māori and Pacific Island rōpū, Kiwa (Te Moana Nui-ā-Kiwa — The Great Ocean of Kiwa).

Translated literally, Wainuiātea means a vast-unobstructed body of water. The purpose of this app is to be an effective resource and rallying point for you as you begin your journey across the vast-unobstructed waters of te ao Māori. We've included here information on te reo Māori (the Māori language), tikanga (customs), mihimihi (introductions) and waiata (songs), to help you understand more about our unique and shared cultural heritage.
