The Wainwright Companion is the feature-packed app for working through all of the fells across the English Lake District.

NAVIGATE WITH CONFIDENCE
Follow GPS-guided routes on 225+ bundled trails with Companion+, or plan your own multi-fell walk, with Pro. Live navigation shows your position, distance remaining, time estimate, and the route's full elevation profile. Off-route alerts keep you going in the right direction and offline maps ensure you're not relying on signal in the fells. Summit detection automatically bags all the fells along the way. 

WEATHER INTELLIGENCE
Real-time hourly forecasts for every fell across the regions, with a green/amber/red safety assessment that accounts for summit altitude. Nearby Wainwrights and plan-ahead to find the best Fells this week, which recommends your next walk based on weather, proximity, and what you've already bagged or bookmarked.

I absolutely love this app - it’s made planning my weekend hikes so much easier (& safer)!!! I’ve used other nav apps in the past and found them to either be clunky or expensive for what they provide and this is neither. The route planning is really slick and it costs less than a pie and a pint at the end of a hike. Plus it’s helped me discover some hidden gems of the lakes along the way too.

Squashed bugs:
 • Fixed an issue that could lead to lost progress when saving a walk. Only occurred after the walk had been resumed (i.e. phone reboot, battery flat, or app dismissed).
 • Post-reinstall displays status whilst prior completions are restored from iCloud and confirms when complete.
 • Live Activity display made clearer; time, distance, and elevation to the upcoming fell is separated from the progress beneath.
 • Outlying Fells achievements incorrectly displayed 'Wainwrights', now displayed correctly.
 • Fixed a data issue that could leave the Outlying Fells missing from the Map and Achievements on a new install, until an iCloud restore corrected it.
 • Fixed an iOS 26 issue that could cause your walk history to silently re-sync from iCloud every time you opened the app.
 • The offline map banner now tells you when there's no signal to cache the map.

New Features:
 • Pro gets live route directions. While you're navigating, your Dynamic Island and lock screen show the stats that matter; progress, distance and ascent remaining to the next summit, your elapsed time, and a direction arrow pointing you the right way. Not just a compass, a directional arrow that knows your route and tells you which way to head.

 • Companion+ now supports follow-along navigation for all 225 trails. Open a route, tap Follow Along, and the map tracks your position in real time along the path, showing the summits still ahead of you. When you reach the end, you close the session and log the completion and summits in one step.
 • Companion+ includes all 116 Outlying Fells. Switch between your original 214 and the Outlying Fells from the Map or Checklist, with the same weather forecasts, pinpoint accuracy, achievements, and regional breakdown you'd expect. If you've been ticking both books in your own records, the app is keeping up.

 • Free tier's Profile tab has been reorganised around progress. Progress at the top shows exactly where you stand in the list, with achievements below showing recent milestones without needing to open the full grid.
 • Free Tier now highlights revisited fells. The map and checklist now distinguish fells you've climbed more than once. Your repeat ascents have always been recorded, now they show.

Squashed bugs:
 • Fell marker outlines now align to the system setting; supporting light and dark mode more closely.
 • Improved a scrolling stutter which could occur for some users during iCloud sync activity.
 • Added a notification informing users when no suggested fells were being displayed due to sunset.  
 • Night Owl achievement might fire when adding a manual completion after 20:00, re-saving will now correct this.

- Fixes a launch crash that could occur after completing a classic-route walk such as the Coledale Horseshoe.

- Share Cards - The completed-fell total on your shared cards now matches your Checklist and Stats consistently; some instances would +1 to the total count.
