### 3/5 — Eats up a lot of storage space

*2026-08-10, version 10.17*

I do love using this app but I it uses A LOT of storage space (more than 4 or 5 GB). I have to delete the app and
redownload it every month in order to free up storage space. I hope the developers can fix this issue in future updates.

### 4/5 — Shoulder pain

*2026-08-03, version 10.17*

Energetic; worked shoulders in several planes.

Neck: interesting movements to increase stretch and mobility, decrease pain.

### 4/5 — Cool but poor syncing kills it

*2026-08-03, version 10.17*

I love the videos for the exercises and the variety of movements! I also feel better during the day. But the syncing with apple health and my Apple watch are really bad and that’s annoying for getting an accurate track of sedentary time.

### 3/5 — Not for me

*2026-08-03, version 10.17*

I needed a reminder, not a workout

### 2/5 — Sad it has changed

*2026-07-01, version 10.17*

I have used it for 4 years. Sadly many of the movements have AI generated figures, not the real humans it originally used. Now the movements are too quick and not human-like. Cancelling my sub.

### 3/5 — Farts

*2026-06-28, version 10.17*

Yep yep

### 2/5 — Not Work Friendly

*2026-06-16, version 10.17*

If you work in an office and want to use the timer, don’t. The back button needed to turn the music off (and keep the boss sweet about the idea of a 1 minute exercise break) is non-existent. To go back to the main page I have to reset my iPad. So much for this app not taking up too much of my day. I have now been told no more Wakeout in the office.

### 2/5 — Used to be great, now not so much

*2026-06-06*

I really love this app. I loved the variety, the way it offered me an option based on my context (standing in the kitchen), and let me dismiss the one offered to choose another. It kept me active in bite sized ways that I could slowly increase. But now it’s changed. I only get one option or have to choose from the huge list, nothing between. It’s no longer a big useable app for me and the AI agent said a human would help me, but nope. Ghosted. So frustrating that I paid an annual subscription after the trial and the app changed to be unusable.

### 2/5 — Unfortunately

*2026-05-26, version 10.16*

no free version with ad support

### 2/5 — Buggy with unsafe exercises

*2026-05-09, version 10.14*

This is truly not worth the subscription. It rarely works as it should, sending you alerts to exercise at 1am, despite setting your awake hours. Many of the bending and twisting exercises are outright hazardous. Customer service is racially non existent. And the “cancel at any time” promise is ridiculously misleading since it only refers to you canceling automatic charges to your credit card in the future. If you sign up for a year, you cannot cancel anything. You can discontinue automatic renewal on any app in your App Store settings, so they have no actual cancellation possibility.

### 3/5 — I think I need more targets

*2026-05-07, version 10.14*

I moved the difficulty to very hard and I am still surpassing the daily goal before noon each day. This isn't a flex, I need help in the afternoon and at night. Maybe if there was a morning bar, an afternoon bar and an evening bar? I'm not sure how to make it work for me. I really like the novelty and how even when I select the same category of movement there are enough options to still be new every time

I'm an injured (former?) runner newly working a desk job, so I'm not sedentary typically but I don't want to slip into the habits of desk workers unintentionally

### 3/5 — was a huge fan of the app, but they started using AI to replace humans

*2026-05-04*

i loved everything about wakeout. it genuinely helps me get up and get moving throughout the day! i would totally give it five stars. but i'm writing this review because of the recent addition of movement packs with models that were developed with AI. until recently, all of the movement packs have been modeled by real human beings. unfortunately, it looks like the app has begun transitioning to AI modeling. a lot of the charm is lost in this development. the thing that draws me to this app is the acknowledgement of the shared human experience surrounding being tethered to a desk, day in and day out. there's a charm to having a "friend" to perform goofy dad dances with me for 30-60 seconds. a real human being with whom to parasocially embrace the brief moment, even if it existed in their past. i understand that this app has a deep cost related to production, but with the introduction of the AI models, there's almost no difference in the integrity this app compared to other apps that restrict your phone usage. and this app is much more expensive than others. the higher cost is worth it because of the higher effort and elevated user experience. but there's something incredibly ingenuine about the AI models.

### 2/5 — Canceled subscription after years

*2026-04-24, version 10.14*

I've been a Wakeout subscriber for years. Stuck through months of it not working right before the big overhaul a couple of years ago. I've told so many people about the app. But it's time for me to move on because the frustration has now exceeded the benefit.

1. I got a different Garmin watch and my watts are so skewed now. Wildly inflated despite no change in my Apple Health data to warrant my watts being 4-5x more than my normal. I tried the chat, and the AI bot wasn't helpful (but how often are they?). Been "waiting for a teammate" for 1.5 weeks to respond. Nothing I try gets a response or suggestions of what to try instead to talk to an actual human.

2. I also noticed that the latest release pack has what seems to clearly be AI "models." One of the things I loved about Wakeout was the human videos. I asked the chatbot if they used AI and I got some canned message about how they only use humans. Might want to update that because the graphics in the apps listing on the store are full of what clearly look like AI. I have no interest in giving money to a company using generative AI instead of humans. Especially one that isn't up front about it. So disappointing to be lied to through messaging planted in a chat bot when the graphics are so obviously people who are "too perfect" to be human.

Super disappointed to lose this app but the company no longer aligns with my values.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not $5.83/month

*2026-09-05, version 100.17.2*

I thought I was signing up for a monthly subscription for $5.83/month. They charged my card for the full year/$69.99. Now I can’t get my money back. Actually tried to cancel within the 7 day trial period but was mislead because it said my subscription would end August 2027. Now I’m out $69.99. Beware people.

### 1/5 — i cant sign in

*2026-07-17, version 10.17*

can't sign in with apple, no option skip

### 1/5 — It’s good but

*2026-06-22, version 10.17*

It’s a good app. However if you take a day off and click on take today off your apps will continue to lock every 25 min so you have to go back in Wakeout and tap taking today off all day long because it will continue to lock you out all day Very frustrating! So apparently you can not take the day off. Stupid it is offered since it does not work.

### 1/5 — Screen time access restricted my access to any safari website and most other apps on my phone

*2026-06-19, version 10.17*

Just like the title says the day after setting this up I suddenly was unable to access any site on Safari, and roughly 50% of the apps on my phone including all Apple native apps. After following all of the troubleshooting steps I finally contacted Apple support thinking something was wrong with my phone. Turns out it was the Wakeout app. I even purchased bitdefender thinking I had somehow gotten a “bug”. I am running iOS 26.5 on a 16 Pro. If you see these issues occur with your phone, it might be Wakeout.

### 1/5 — не буду использовать

*2026-06-02*

пробный период всего неделя.почему нельзя сделать навсегда,но без каких-то «плюшек»?или предложить подписку в конце пробного периода.

### 1/5 — AI Slop, look elsewhere

*2026-05-22, version 10.16*

Don’t let the historical rating of this app fool you, this app is filled with AI slop. You’re met with AI slop from the moment you open the app to sign up.

You have to choose one of the notification styles from an “expert” which seems like it’s just AI generated notifications with the flavor of your choosing. Applying the label “expert” to AI generated content should be a red flag to everyone. Another red flag is each of those “expert” cards has AI generated images. Some have four fingers on one hand and three fingers on the other, some have two fingers while others have three fingers, the shade of green on each “expert” is different, and the accessories are wonky (a floating planner, a coffee mug that doesn’t align with the fingers).

Ask yourself these questions before downloading Wakeout.

Does an app that force-feeds AI slop to new customers with such little quality control right out of the gate deserve your money, data, and time?

Does an app that drives some longstanding users to delete it due to an increased implementation of AI slop (I encourage you to read through the 1 star reviews from the past year) deserve your money, data, and time?

Last little nugget of information I found interesting. The website shows it has an App Store rating of 4.8 but the current App Store rating is 4.5. Why the decline? The only insight we have as consumers is through public reviews, which I encourage everyone to exercise their right to read the reviews from the past 6-12 months, including the developer responses, to see if this app is worth YOUR money, data, and time.

It’s definitely not worth MY money, data, and time ✌️

### 1/5 — This is NOT free

*2026-05-09, version 10.14*

It looks like free and started with free mode. You will find membership at the end. Otherwise. You need to delete the account. So literally you sell your information to 3rd party legally. Share this because I don’t want you to make the same mistake.

### 1/5 — The watch app is overly frustrating

*2026-04-30, version 10.14*

Thought this would be helpful to get me to meet my standing and movement goals on my watch but the app on there is pretty much useless.

Like there was no way for me to start an activity and indicate where I was and whether I could stand or not. So you have to start and stop until it gives you a workout that you can actually do. I don’t want to have to use my phone all the time, so it literally defeats the purpose if I have to open my phone to find the correct set up every time.

### 1/5 — Can’t contact a human

*2026-04-14, version 10.13*

I’ve tried several times, and all I get are canned replies promising [human] contact, but then I get sent in a wild goose chase. I’m done with them and I’ll be making my own vids and/or app this summer. 💪💪💪

### 1/5 — Definitely AI videos

*2026-03-18, version 10.12*

AI videos, not live people who are demonstrating the exercises and that’s just not my jam.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — FINALLY

*2026-09-03, version 100.17.2*

I have finally found something that motivates me to move. It’s short bursts but it breaks up the sedentary sitting at my desk all day. My body is starting to feel better. Also if I’m aching on one side I can find an exercise that helps it or work on something for my hands instead. The whole point is just to get me moving. So when I do go do a walk my body is in better shape to accept it. They have exercising while ur sitting on the couch, In your bed, at your desk at work. There’s no excuse not to take a little boost to do a fun exercise to move joints you have not used to feel better.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-08-31, version 100.17.1*

This makes motivates me throughout the day

### 5/5 — Tolle App!

*2026-07-29*

Mit der App achte ich viel mehr darauf, mich immer wieder zu bewegen bevor Rücken oder Nacken steif wird. Außerdem finde ich die App auch optisch sehr schön.

### 5/5 — New to this

*2026-07-14, version 10.17*

So far I enjoy everything about this app, thank the stars I finally found an app that relates to my life

### 5/5 — Nice app but…

*2026-05-31, version 10.16*

Now the reviews were really good so I think this app is really good and I have this app but there’s one problem. It tells me to make an account and I had to sign in with Apple, but it doesn’t let me sign in with Apple because my phone won’t let me so yeah great but it’s good. It’s good.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2026-05-30, version 10.16*

Really helps!

### 5/5 — Updating my last review

*2026-05-05, version 10.14*

In my last review the ability to just choose my own exercise wasnt there but youve brought that back under the explore tab and that makes me so happy! I had actually stopped using the app but Im back!! Thank you for bringing back the thing I liked most about the app.

### 5/5 — Please make an android version

*2026-04-24, version 10.14*

Best app ever

### 5/5 — So fun, so helpful!!

*2026-04-24, version 10.13*

I love this app. Some of the movement packs make me laugh while performing the movements - the videos are so funny!

### 5/5 — surprisingly helpful

*2026-04-23, version 10.13*

I loathe traditional exercise/fitness routines and was on the lookout for something I could stick to, wasn’t boring or painful, (yay, non-optimal muscular skeletal system), and could be scaled a bit to my needs.

I took a chance, bought an annual subscription and dove in. What I like is that this works in conjunction with my apple watch tracked monitors and offers a simple “go, girl go” style form of encouragement.

I’ve been using it for about six weeks and only take breaks when I’m sick or the joints protest too much. My goal is to continue to tweak time and difficulty higher as things go.
