## What is WalkFindr?

Walkfindr generates scenic walks from wherever you are. Pick a duration or a destination, choose places you'd like to pass through, and head out the door — the app handles the rest.

DISCOVER WALKS YOUR WAY
Select from 15 to 120 minutes and Walkfindr builds a circular walking route that brings you back to your starting point. Or switch to A-to-B mode and get the scenic way to anywhere — the station, a friend's house, the pub. Choose waypoints like pubs, restaurants, cafes, churches, landmarks or viewpoints so your walk includes stops worth making.

SMARTER, CLEANER ROUTES
Routes follow real footpaths and public ways. Built-in intelligence avoids paid-entry heritage sites and steers clear of dead-end detours, so every walk feels coherent and well-planned. Not quite right? Open the route editor, add or move stops, and reroute in a tap.

COMMUNITY ROUTES
Discover walks shared by other walkers near you, and share your own favourites with a tap. No account or sign-up — it works quietly through iCloud.

AN AUDIO COMPANION
Turn on narration and your walk talks back: scenic spots announced as you approach them, kilometre milestones along the way, and a warm welcome as you set off. It politely ducks your music and podcasts.

EXPLORE EVERY STREET
Exploration mode charts the unique ground you've covered and, when you ask it to, deliberately routes you down streets you've never walked.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Each route shows distance, estimated time, calories, step count and a difficulty rating — Easy, Moderate or Hard. A smart weather card scans the next 36 hours and tells you the best window to walk — dry, mild and bright — with an optional reminder when it arrives.

LIVE NAVIGATION — PHONE AND WRIST
Follow turn-by-turn directions with GPS auto-advance. See your stats update in real time — time, distance, calories, elevation gain and steps. On Apple Watch, glance at your progress and feel a gentle tap when a turn is coming up. Mindfulness prompts appear along the way to help you stay present.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Build a walking streak by heading out every day. Set a weekly distance goal and watch your progress bar fill up. Dive into Trends & Training for charts of your weekly distance, monthly totals, pace progression and personal records. Earn points, unlock milestones from First Steps to Legend, and look back through your complete walk history with photos and notes.

WALK BEYOND SIGNAL
Download offline regions — maps and footpaths for up to 8 km around any point — so saved walks keep working in the hills, on the coast, and anywhere the bars disappear.

SAVE AND SHARE
Bookmark routes to walk again later, complete with offline map snapshots and cached directions. Share walks with friends — they'll get the difficulty, steps, a direct Apple Maps link and a download link for Walkfindr.

BUILT FOR PRIVACY
Walkfindr uses your location only to generate routes. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, and zero third-party dependencies — pure Apple frameworks. Your walk history stays on your device; the only thing that ever leaves it is a route you choose to share with the community.

### 5/5 — Great

Found a new path locally, good walk.

### 5/5 — Becky

I go walking pretty much every weekend, so finding good routes that actually make sense is a big thing for me, and this app has made it so much easier.
What I love is that the walks actually feel like real walks, not random routes thrown together. It picks up proper paths, little trails, and routes you probably wouldn’t find yourself, especially when you’re somewhere new or out in the countryside.
It also takes away that annoying stop start feeling where you’re checking your phone or doubling back on yourself. Everything just flows, you can follow it easily and stay in the walk instead of overthinking where you’re going.
The navigation side is really helpful as well. You’re not guessing where to turn or hoping you’re going the right way, it keeps you on track without being distracting.

### 5/5 — Brilliant walks!

Been out on a family walk today for Mother’s Day and found a new circular route I hadn’t found before. Clean easy to use app.

### 2.4 — 2026-06-12

What's New in Walkfindr 2.4.0 — a fresh face and smarter walks.

A BRAND NEW ICON
Walkfindr has a new look on your home screen — a bold white W striding across forest-green hills. Same app, fresher boots.

A NEW WELCOME
First launch now opens with full-screen scenes of misty hills, glowing route maps and sunlit trails — and the same look flows through the home screen and our website.

NO MORE DEAD-END DETOURS
Short walks sometimes grew a branch — a detour down a side street just to touch a waypoint, then straight back. The engine now spots these dead-end spurs and re-plans around them, so your loop is a clean circuit all the way round.

OUT-AND-BACK WALKS NOW GO THE DISTANCE
Fixed an issue where out-and-back walks could come out at around half the length you asked for. Whether it's your chosen route or the suggested alternative, the turnaround point is now placed so the full walk matches your target.

BETTER LOOPS, CHOSEN BETTER
The route engine's sense of shape has been sharpened — it now judges loops from their true centre, so genuinely round, satisfying circuits rise to the top and lopsided ones get filtered out.

FASTER GENERATION
Each tap of generate now does its map lookups once instead of repeating them for every attempt, so routes appear quicker — especially in the countryside where the engine needs several tries.

MORE VARIETY, MORE RELIABILITY
Route attempts now sweep evenly around the compass instead of picking random directions, giving better coverage of your area on every generate. Walk lengths and time estimates now follow your walking pace consistently from the slider to the preview, and rapid re-generates no longer briefly show the previous route.

Thanks for walking with us — please keep the feedback coming.

### 2.3 — 2026-05-09

What's New in Walkfindr 2.3.0

BETTER LOOP QUALITY
Loops now feel more genuinely circular, especially in countryside and rural areas. New scoring catches and rejects lopsided routes that look like loops on paper but feel one-sided on the ground — so the walks you actually get are more balanced, with a cleaner outbound and return.

NO MORE HOOKED STARTS
A routing fix removes the awkward "hooks" some walks used to start with, where the route would briefly head the wrong way before turning. Routes now flow naturally from your starting point.

CLEANER LOOP SHAPES
A new shape-quality check spots routes that double back on themselves, oscillate, or trace figure-eights — and picks cleaner, single-circuit loops instead. The improvement is most noticeable on longer walks where small detours used to add up.

TIGHTER WAYPOINT PLACEMENT
Walk waypoints are now snapped to nearby paths only when they truly belong to the loop you asked for, rather than drifting onto a road in the wrong direction. The result is fewer "why is the route going over there?" moments.

PREVIEWS YOU CAN TRUST
Routes are no longer re-routed behind the scenes after they're picked, so the preview map shows exactly the route the app chose for you — no surprises when you start walking.

TAP A BENEFIT TO LEARN MORE
The "Why Walk?" cards on the home screen are now interactive. Tap any card to open a short, evidence-grounded explanation of how walking actually delivers that benefit — from how it lowers blood pressure to why it sparks creativity.

### 2.2.1 — 2026-04-23

What's New in Walkfindr 2.2.1

SMARTER LOOP GENERATION
Loops now take genuinely different paths on the way out and the way back, so your walk feels like a real circle instead of an out-and-back in disguise. Most noticeable in open countryside where paths are sparse — if a true loop isn't possible, routes that share too much of their own path are filtered out in favour of better alternatives.

REDESIGNED HOME SCREEN
A cleaner, focused layout puts walk generation front and centre. Pick your duration, tap generate — done. All walk options (starting point, walk via, preferences) are neatly tucked into a slide-down panel. A mini map in the header shows your location at a glance — tap it to explore and pick a new starting point.

BETTER ROUTING WITH OSRM
Walks are now powered by OpenStreetMap's walking router, which knows about footpaths, bridleways, towpaths and countryside trails that other routers miss. Routes generate faster and follow real walkable paths, even in rural areas.

NO MORE SPURS
Dead-end detours are gone. The new routing engine prevents U-turns at waypoints, so your walk flows smoothly without doubling back on itself.

OUT-AND-BACK WALKS
Not every great walk is a loop. In areas with linear terrain — coastlines, canal paths, mountain ridges, deep countryside — Walkfindr now offers an out-and-back option. Walk half your chosen duration along the best path, then turn around and return. When both options are available, you can switch between "View Loop Walk" and "View Out & Back Walk" to pick the one you prefer.

GPS NAVIGATION UPGRADE
The active walk screen now follows your position and heading like a sat-nav, with a 3D perspective view. A live distance countdown shows how far to your next turn, with haptic alerts at 50m and auto-advance at 25m. Toggle between follow mode and full route overview with one tap.

ALWAYS GET A WALK
No more "couldn't match your target duration" errors. If the exact duration isn't possible, Walkfindr returns the closest match with a friendly note explaining the difference. A walk that's slightly longer or shorter is always better than no walk at all.

PRIVATE LAND — WALK WITH CONFIDENCE
Routes can now cross private and heritage land where public footpaths exist. Instead of avoiding these areas, you'll see a calm informational notice to follow marked paths and local signage.

FASTER GENERATION
Walk generation is dramatically faster — the app now builds each route with a single network request instead of dozens of sequential calls. Scenic spot searches are leaner too, so you spend less time waiting and more time walking.

SMARTER APP STORE UPDATES
The update checker now reliably detects new versions using your app's numeric ID, so you'll always know when an update is available.
