I so appreciate the effort that goes into maintaining and developing it. This new iteration of the app looks to be an excellent improvement on the earlier version. Without this app, we would have certainly gotten lost on a few trails. It also helped us find some great walks nearby when we were looking to fill some time. Great map even for trails that aren’t “official” walks. Download the maps need for next day then feel secure of always knowing exactly where you are. Walk Highlands has been first port of call for me since the website launched some 15 or years ago. An app just makes it easier on today’s technology. The GPS works seamlessly for anywhere now (even away from the downloaded routes), loading is quicker and they’ve even fixed the homepage so you don’t have to scroll down to load the map mid-walk. How is this app (and site) still free and still being improved, when every other corner of the internet is being turned to sludge? Completely free - doesn’t try to upsell anything. Covers all areas of Scotland. You can download walks, os maps, gps tracking. Much more reliable than commercial walking apps because of active walkers involvement. Very grateful to the developers (charitable organisation ). I think it would benefit those of us who find it difficult to follow instructions! **Developer response:** Many thanks for your review and feedback - it's much appreciated! If it helps, when you look at the route map with your current position marked, the numbers on the map mark each kilometre from the start of the walk. We are slowly adding more distances in the text where helpful (e.g. turn left after 300m) but it will take quite a few years to get round all the walks with that info.
