## What is Wall Gallery Designer Lite?

The best gallery melds the decor of the room, its furnishings, and its light with the picture layout, framing materials, and pictures. But there are a zillion possibilities. To find the best. answer these questions with "Wall Gallery Designer Lite" and augmented reality:

   • How big should my art be for display on my wall?
   • What is the best color mat for my framed photo that fits the colors of my room?
   • Would a narrow or wide frame face look better with my furniture?
   • Where should I hang the framed picture?
   • Should the colors in my photo be tuned to work better with my decor?
   • How should I arrange my art on the wall?
   • How do I record and track designs?

Your wall gallery design is art. It takes thought and time to get it right. Preview it before investing in frames.

Using augmented reality, you create and display arranged pictures on the screen anywhere, even outdoors with only a few minutes of work. You automatically arrange pictures with pack frames. The best color choices based on analysis of selected pictures are highlighted in green. With a few taps, pictures are quickly rearranged, frame sizes, colors, and material can be switched, and mat styles, colors and window sizes can be changed.

Share photos from your Photos or Lightroom® Library to the app via the share sheet and find the best stock frames, mats, and print sizes for art on your walls in your room and with your colors.

Millions of mat and frame combinations are stocked in stores. Choosing sizes and colors in bad lighting in a store, instead of on the wall where the framed picture will hang, often fails because it clashes with room decor.

When you explore possibilities with “Wall Gallery Designer Lite” in the place where it will be displayed, you are more likely to choose an excellent print size, mat, and frame with less hassle, saving time, money, and stress.

In "Wall Gallery Designer Lite", you choose the colors and sizes of the mats and frames from common ones similar to those stocked in stores in the US or custom colors. You can even pick up colors from the room or pictures to use on frames, mats, and walls.

You can choose to "hang" pictures without mats and/or frames to visualize how float, frameless, canvas or glass pictures might display on your wall in standard or custom size windows. When you are considering art already in a custom frame, add its photo to your camera roll, then choose a frame with a frame face size of 'none'.

To minimize fatigue you freeze reality and complete your scene design without pointing your device at the wall. With reality frozen, the background contains the last image captured, while the design capabilities remain active so you can move and change framed pictures as usual. When the design is complete, tap the restart button and reposition the scene with your completed design.

"Wall Gallery Designer Lite" is an augmented reality app for iPhone 6s and later as well as 2017 iPads and later that use the A9 chip or better. Using your phone's camera, it takes photos from your Photo Library and frames them in virtual picture frames that you color, mat, and position on the wall.

Compared to "Wall Gallery Designer Lite", the Pro-Version of "Wall Gallery Designer" has these additional capabilities:
  • Frozen Reality™
  • Frozen Viewpoints™
  • Color Triage™
  • Color recommendations for mats based on the colors in framed pictures
  • Persistent Scenes and Galleries
  • Exporting archived Galleries and Scenes
  • Double matting
  • Float framing and clip frames
  • 4- and 8-ply mats
  • Fast single tap color and framing changes with MultiMenu controls
  • Custom mat, frame and wall colors, and sizes
  • Frame and mat colors can be picked from room furnishings
  • Move frames to guide
  • More than one wall in a scene
  • and more...

### 1/5 — Won't open

*2020-12-31*

It says it will work on MacOS 10.15 or later, my Mac is 10.15.7 but when I try to open it- it says: "WallGalleryDesignerLite cannot be opened because of a problem" I purchased the $3.99 version.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your report. You are correct. Wall Gallery Designer and Wall Gallery Designer Lite are built only for MacOS 11 and later. The App Store should not have allowed the app to be downloaded to a Mac running MacOS 10.15. Please request a refund from Apple at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084.

Thank you for your interest in the app. If you have further questions, please contact us directly via email at support@wallgallerydesigner.com.

### 3/5 — Steep learning curve to get it right

*2020-01-31*

It works if you are willing to put hours into learning how to use it. I would not recommend for a one off project.
For professionals who do wall galleries daily with clients it would be of real use.

**Developer response:** [Jan 31, 2020] Thank you for updating your review. You are correct. The app is for creatives who understand that there are an astronomical number of possibilities for a gallery and who are willing to invest time in the app to speed up the process of exploring these possibilities. The huge number of combinations of frame style, colors, material, sizes, mats, etc. available in the app means there are a lot of choices that can be made. The app provides help for the novice by suggesting colors, applying changes the selected group of frames, and built in help pages that offer guidelines for framing. Undo/redo allow quick testing of possible changes.

Getting all of the capabilities in a touch-first augmented reality app that works to quickly explore designs has been more challenging than we initially expected. This led us to create the ‘frozen realty’ that allows you to design without holding your device up and multi-column menus that’d group together options that are frequently changed at the same time.

Again, thank you very much for the review.

[Jan 29, 2020] Thank you for upgrading your app rating to 3 stars. We are open to any suggestion you have for improving the app. We want it to work well for you and all our users. All the best to you.

[Jan 24, 2020] Thank you for your report. We are happy to help you. We would especially like to understand what difficulty you are having with the app. We are frequently improving the app and you could help us discover what improvements are needed to make it more useable for you.

By the way, many pages of help are available in the app with a long press on the '?' button. Did you read them?

One common problem when using an augmented reality app is failing to keep a fixed real-world object in the camera view. If you are so close to a wall that all the camera sees is a smooth surface, augmented reality can no longer keep the picture frames and real-world synchronized. One solution is simply to mark that area of the wall with a '+' sign created with painter's masking tape in a contrasting color and keep the '+' in the camera view.

The app was originally developed for the iPhone 6s and is used and tested successfully on that and later iPhones. We have created many beautiful galleries with iPhones. We very much want to understand exactly how you are using the app so that we can address the issues you have.

Please email us at support@wallgallerydesigner.com for additional help.

### 1/5 — Difficult to use

*2019-11-02*

I found this app very difficult to use. Perhaps it’s because the wall I am trying to plan is only small and I can’t stand more that 2m away from it, but I can’t even get the app to accurately recognise the wall.
Rather than being able to click on all of the corners of the wall you have to make a net which you pinch and pull to the correct size. Only when you get your net to fit on one edge of the wall it doesn’t fit the other, when you pinch the net it now doesn’t fit on the edge of the wall it originally did.
Like I said, I have found it very difficult to use and I’d recommend saving your money.

**Developer response:** [Updated 17Dec2019]
Thank you for taking the time to report your issue with our app. Feedback is important to us and we use it to improve our app. Fewer than one in a hundred provide any feedback, so your feedback is appreciated.

You’ll be pleased to learn that based on your suggestion, we’ve added the ability to resize the wall width by dragging either its left or right edge. As mostly used, the wall is invisible and not colored so that the augmenting framed pictures appear hung on the real wall. As long as the wall is wide enough to hold the gallery, the width is not important. The green mesh only appears while dragging pictures or manipulating the invisible wall. The squares in the mesh are 2” x 2” to ease aligning frames. The width of the wall is important when the wall is colored so that it masks existing objects. In that case, changing the width by dragging on an edge is very helpful. Thank you for pointing this out.

In addition, we’ve improved the app’s built-in help pages to explain how you can easily fix an issue where filling the screen with a view of an empty wall that has no features causes augmented reality to lose tracking. This is a common problem encountered by those who are new to augmented reality. As currently implemented, augmented reality requires that what’s in the camera’s video stream contains recognizable fixed structures that provide anchors for linking the camera’s video to the device’s augmenting 3D images. A video stream filled with a smooth white wall lacks the necessary contrasting texture.

To fix the issue, simply add a mark or two to the wall that will be visible to the camera. For our walls, we make an X with painter’s blue masking tape. Alternatively, you might stick a couple of contrasting color Post-its in the camera’s view. The marks can be hidden by the virtual frames and walls so the marks don’t show on the screen even though they are still visible in the camera’s video stream. A similar problem and solution exists when the app searches for the floor. The app needs to find the floor first so that it knows how high the pictures are hung.

Based on the issue you report with using the app from a distance of 2 meters, you may have been encountering the “featureless wall” issue. If that’s not the case, please email us with more details at support@wallgallerydesigner.com. We would like to learn more about the issue you have encountered so we can improve it in a way to help you. You may be interested to learn that the test wall we use during development is only 6 feet away :)

If an app doesn’t work for you, we understand. Please contact Apple to refund your purchase (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084) within a reasonable timeframe. App purchases through Apple do not risk your money. So don’t be afraid to try an app that seems perfect for your needs.

Again, thank you for your feedback, suggestions and time spent writing the review,
George.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2023.02 — 2023-06-21

• Mirrored wrap (as "wrap:mirror") and stretched wrap (wrap:stretch) join "wrap:color" as framed picture face width menu items. Mirror and stretch describe the sides of a wrapped picture
• Wrapped pictures are now rendered with subtle chamfered edges and corners to mimic wrapping with canvas.
• The frame's custom color picker is enhanced to display the sRGB, HSB, Lab, or Lch value of the current color. Tap the blue label to cycle through a color's numbers
• To make changing a frame's custom color brightness and saturation easier without changing the hue, two new custom color pickers for interactive HSB or Lch color selection are added. In both the top slider controls the hue. The previous picker for HSB where the top slider controlled saturation is still available. To cycle between the color picker views, tap the blue name of the view in the lower right: H/BxS, S/BxH, H/Lxc. The names have meaning. For example, H/BxS means that hue is the top slider while the grid's vertical axis is brightness and the horizontal axis is saturation
• Colors that appear in the black region of the H/Lxc color picker view are colors that are outside of the sRGB colorspace such as "electric blue"
• On iPhone in landscape orientation, numbers in the color picker are not editable because the numeric keypad obscures the color picker. Rotate the iPhone to portrait mode to use a keyboard for color value entry
• Colors on metallic surfaces are closer to expectations. However, metallic surfaces reflect the environment, so a metallic surface color is strongly affected by its surroundings
• Resolves an issue where mat surface texture patterns scaled as the frame window size changed
• Selection checkmarks now depend on the operating system's dark mode setting. In dark mode, check marks are white and in white mode, check marks are black
• Frame sizes are now strictly sorted by width. The list is no longer ordered with horizontal sizes first followed by vertical and then square
• Reduces the number of times that custom mat sizes must be entered from the keyboard by increasing the number of mat windows with uniform borders
• Adds a new setting that toggles "ambient intensity swatches" on and off
• Improves app launch and startup

### 2022.13 — 2022-12-21

• Resolves an intermittent issue where frame custom colors could not be chosen from the real-world scene because the scene was not yet adequately mapped
• Adds a message to continue scanning the scene when a scene has not been adequately mapped on loading or resetting
• Settings for "Show floor" and "Show floor-wall join wall" are now also enabled when real objects hide AR
• Arrows pointing towards the closest visible frame or wall are smaller and offset from the center to minimize overlap with the coaching display

### 2022.12 — 2022-12-20

• Improves performance and reduces memory spikes
• Resolves an issue where some surface textures on pictures were scaled wrong
• Resolves an issue where adding a picture frame after initial positioning on a horizontal surface might crash the app
• Adds an activity message to the launch screen and adds "Preparing galleries" to the main screen while initializing the app
• AR coaching now hides the 3-dot page control near the bottom center of the screen so it does not interfere with the "Start Over" button

### 2022.09 — 2022-08-18

• When the wall lock button is hidden, it is unlocked and walls can be dragged even when manipulating pictures
• Reduces app peak memory use when a scene contains many frames that share the same color and surface
• Wider in-app Settings panel
• Mat and wall color raven is slightly lighter

### 2022.08 — 2022-06-13

• Quicker placement of the augmented reality scene when the app starts up
• More robust undo after extended selections
