### 4/5 — Beautiful, despite minor frustrations.

*2022-10-27, version 1.0.164*

There are so many praises to be sung about this game: the art design is beautiful, the concept for each strategy/character is immaculate, and the campaign story is also really fun. Cannot thank the developers enough for a really cool game.

However, I keep running into the same problem: Most days when there are any multiplayer/tournament daily goals, I am unable to complete them because there are not enough active players, even when I check back at multiple times throughout the day. I wish there was a way to freely skip those goals in favor of others that don’t rely on other players being active as well.

Another issue is that when I clicked on the “App Support” button in this App Store listing, it took me to a 404 Page Not Found. Are the developers still around?

Overall though, I do wanna circle back to the beginning and say thanks for a cool game! :)

### 3/5 — Definitely worth trying out

*2020-10-04, version 1.0.143*

Great and unique game，but then it’s taking too much battery over card game.

### 4/5 — Great Game, Fun Gameplay

*2020-09-11, version 1.0.143*

This is a very well crafted card game with nice art and complex deck building. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because it’s somewhat glitchy and remains unfinished. Still very playable though.

### 5/5 — Easy to pick up - pretty generous

*2020-03-02, version 1.0.99*

Time is of course your most valuable resource, but the game seems good at explaining how to play if you are new to deck building games (like I was). Only complaint is that every now and then the background will flicker and grey squares will be visible instead of the card arts. It’s really only an inconvenience for a few minutes and then fixes itself over time.

### 5/5 — Good game

*2020-01-07, version 1.0.99*

Always enjoyable, always free to play even for newbies. Wish it lagged a bit less on mobile tho.

### 4/5 — Mix of dominion and MtG

*2019-12-08, version 1.0.96*

Good concept. Would like to see more campaign (only half of one campaign so far). Also a little glitchy: a lot of times it doesn’t show the cards in play unless you tap and hold them.

### 4/5 — Original

*2019-10-09, version 1.0.91*

It’s well written and creative. There’s a story behind it.

### 5/5 — Good game with good support

*2019-09-21, version 1.0.90*

You can tell the developers care about this game. They are constantly updating and improving on it. It’s refreshing to see less predatory practices implemented but still keeping a business running with some paid things. Keep it up team!

### 5/5 — Very solid game, % chance on cards a flaw

*2019-08-23, version 1.0.88*

I love this game for its take on dominion and the really different playstyles and feel of each faction. Vestipole feels like classic dominion mechanics, and the other factions diverge off that.

One downside - I loathe the % chance on cards. There’s a lot of randomness from drawing cards from a deck and what restocks in your bank. Cards that have a 15% chance to do X or 50% chance to be destroyed is too much rng. Those mechanics could be made more elegant

I wish they did more card rebalancing too, but I do rave about how cool this game idea is

### 5/5 — Helpful Tech Support

*2019-08-13, version 1.0.88*

The tech support team was very helpful with restoring my profile after reinstalling the app in an attempt to get around an error. Thanks for the quick response. I must have a new profile though, because I couldn't update my previous review after the problem was resolved.

### 4/5 — Unique but clitchy

*2019-08-08*

Unlike most ccg's available, this game has a unique play mechanic that makes it different and interesting. It's easy to learn and fun to play. However there are many graphical glitches (flickering screen, cards not displaying properly, etc) and deck editing is cumbersome. With some updates and tweeks this could easily be one of the best ccg's on the store.

### 5/5 — No bothering

*2019-07-04*

It’s so pleasant to not be harangued every other action to spend some money to gain an unfair advantage.

### 4/5 — Good game, but...

*2019-04-13*

Pretty great game. The bugs that flip the cards over in campaign aren’t great and almost turned me off the game when I first started though.

But still, it’s fun. It feels like dominion, crossed with an actual vs game like Star Realms. The tournament mode is actually really good as well.

Again, only complaint I have is that the campaign is buggy and you only can use 1 class for it.

### 5/5 — Better than most CCGs

*2019-01-23, version 1.0.63*

It's a solid single player game. It takes a bit to really get the hang of it, but that's a good thing and is part of what makes it a fun game. The mechanics are solid and are unique among CCGs. The dialog, quotes, and historical references are interesting. Importantly, the guilds are differentiated and asymmetrical both aesthetically and strategically. I'm not so sure about multi player. Pack and in-game resource system is good. Card upgrade system is meh partly due to the nature of the cards.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned

*2023-04-15*

Great concepts and fun gameplay, but it is very obvious between the constant bugs and the half finished tutorials that this game was abandoned in its very early stages and with years without an update will never be fixed or finished. Would be fine if they brought down some of the paywalls so some could enjoy their broken game, but in this state I would not recommend anybody download this.

### 1/5 — Unfinished

*2022-03-18, version 1.0.164*

Played the game years ago on Kongregate before flash died and I couldn’t play it any longer. Thought I could have some fun when I saw it was on mobile. Unfortunately it seems that the developer has stopped working on the game. As of this review, the last update is about a year ago and even the starter campaign is only about half there with the rest labeled “Coming soon”. Who knows maybe the developers will come back and continue but not at this time.

### 1/5 — Has potential to be a great game but super glitchy

*2019-04-30*

Best to stick to the desktop version this mobile version is extremely glitchy also it's basically impossible to use the multiplayer function when it takes over 5 minutes to get matched up with another player.

### 1/5 — Not a new game at all

*2019-03-05, version 1.0.73*

This game already has been around for more than 4 years at Kongregate and it has a few “limited” cards which you cannot get anymore. If you are a collector like me, it will disappoint you. The game itself is fun though

### 1/5 — Too bad an otherwise great game has some serious problems

*2019-01-10, version 1.0.59*

If I wanted to play a quest I would have played it rather than skipping it. As it is I frequently get the same kind of quest again, which is really frustrating if I don’t play the faction or multiplayer. Just now I had to watch 8 commercials just to get a reasonable quest. Booooring! This will likely cause me to abandon the game if it’s not quickly changed.

Other than that...
Multiplayer rewards people dropping out of the game, it causes a tie... unless it’s been fixed. It was extremely frustrating to play so I haven’t been back.

The actual mechanics of the game are fun! Looking forward to better multiplayer matches. Maybe allow us to play single player while the system looks for players to match up with?

### 1/5 — Impossible quests that’ll immediately turn you off.

*2018-11-16, version 1.0.57*

Says I can watch ads to switch quests. I can’t. *facepalm*

### 1/5 — An Unfinished Game

*2018-09-09, version 1.0.46*

This game might be fun when they finish it, but it has very little replay value. The game description is not accurate; it describes play features which are not implemented.

Among the most egregious errors in the description:
-There are not 20 playable heros, there is 1 hero which has a campaign where later stages are “coming soon”
-There is a second hero which can play in skirmish mode.

That’s it.

-You can get the other heros, but they are not playable. Guess that will get implemented later.

So basically you can play as only 2 of the 4 factions, and only in skirmish mode, and only with a choice of two heros.

This obviously gets repetitive and boring pretty fast.

IF this game had more than half of one hero’s campaign, and if it allowed you to actually play with the additional heros you can earn but can’t use, then it would be a lot of fun.

It’s preposterous this game has a good rating considering it’s less than 10% complete and considering the description of play features is a lie. They do not explain you cannot go very far.

You will have done everything possible to do in this game within a few days of casual play.

**Developer response:** Hi Non-Fiction Fan,

First off, apologies for not seeing this review until today. We're a super small team of two people and tend to miss when new reviews are posted. However we're very responsive to our support emails (support@warofomens.com) and chats in Discord (https://discord.gg/jRW8QYx) so feel free to send any follow ups there.

Next, I'll admit up front, the campaign mode is not finished. In all honesty, we designed it in a way where each chapter had a ton of depth, but creating new chapters took WAY too long, so development on it took a backseat to all the other features we've added over the years.

(And yes, this game has existed on the web with a loyal fanbase for almost 5 years now! Check out our Kickstarter from 2014: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1564141972/war-of-omens-a-digital-deck-builder-ccg-hybrid)

However, I fear there's been a huge misunderstanding that has led you to believe the game is so limited. There are in fact 20 playable heroes for skirmish (and multiplayer), not just the first 2 that you start with. But you need to unlock them AND you need to set up a deck to play with them. If you never create a deck for your new heroes, the game won't let you enter a match.

Incidentally, we added a more descriptive explanation of this requirement into the game about two weeks after your review. But if you're still confused, you can always email us and we'll walk you through it.

In addition, all heroes and decks that can be used in Skirmish can immediately be used in Multiplayer through private matches. Matchmaking against strangers is unlocked after you win 20 games, to make sure you understand the mechanics well enough to compete against others. But there's zero difference between the heroes that are available between Skirmish and Multiplayer.

The other mode that doesn't allow you to use the 20 playable heroes is Tournament mode... but that's because there are 8 completely separate heroes that we created and designed specifically for that mode. Every card from the each of the factions is available to you to construct one mega deck! You're only allowed to play that mode after you've won a game with each of the 4 factions, because Tournament mode requires a really strong knowledge of all 4 if you want to be able to compete. This is the mode that many of our 5-year old players keep coming back for, due to the nearly unlimited combinations of decks and match-ups.

To sum up:
- There are in fact 20 playable heroes, not just 2
- All of them are available for Skirmish, Private Matches, and Matchmaking
- Tournament mode adds 8 MORE heroes that you can play with, and introduces completely unique strategies
- Yes, only 1 hero has a campaign/story mode that is currently incomplete, but we are still working on adding more (Valdorian is probably the next hero to get their own story)

If you're still playing the game, then you've probably figured this all out on your own already. If you aren't, then we invite you to come back and enjoy the full game that you unfortunately missed out on the first time around (also, now with Emotes!). Either way, feel free to update your review with any other issues you find, or hopefully with a 5-star review because you're having as much fun playing the game as we have making it :)

### 2/5 — Good but needs polish

*2018-06-06, version 1.0.27*

This is a great game, however there are two things that keep it from being epic..one,the definition of pack means more than one!! Yet when you purchase a card pack from the store you are shown 3 cards but can only choose one. Really?? If that’s the case, and that’s being really cheap, then it should say single card..then there’s the glaring total unbalanced you vs computer,it’s impossible to win on anything past neophyte mode, and don’t even get me started on campaign. Making the game more balanced would make for a much better game. Hopefully this will happen otherwise I think I might delete what could have been an epic game.

**Developer response:** Hey Vamps,
Point taken, I'll remove multiplayer matches from the quest possibilities for new users in the next version as matches are harder to find. Once we get more players in I can turn those back on.
Cheers and thanks for the feedback.

### 3/5 — Fun game, but….

*2022-11-30, version 1.0.164*

I really enjoy the game. But you have to watch an ad to be able to buy a new card pack. Not that you get a free card pack for watching an ad….but if you want to buy a card pack then you have to watch an ad first. It’s odd, almost like you are getting screwed twice. Not only do you have to buy a pack of cards, but you have to watch an ad before they will let you buy a pack. It’s pretty ridiculous. If this game were pay once and play…. I would love it. It’s a fun game.

### 3/5 — So much potential

*2021-10-09, version 1.0.164*

This game is a very interesting take on the typical card game genre. I wish the devs still cared about it or there was any kind of community.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Classic from Kongregate

*2021-06-16, version 1.0.164*

This game doesn’t take advantage or offer a p2w strategy. The development team is super friendly and very vocal in the community!

### 5/5 — Can’t stop playing

*2021-06-03, version 1.0.164*

This deck builder is sooo much fun! Single & multiplayer, with four factions & multiple heroes in each faction. Each hero has a unique ability, and you can unlock multiple decks per hero. Never gets old; feelin sick of Metris? Switch it up to Vespitole! One of my ultimate favorite games, and by far my favorite deck builder. Opening packs is super satisfying & although you can buy resources, the game is not gated at all by any pay to play nonsense. Fun for all ages.

### 5/5 — Not what I expected from a F2P game

*2021-03-07, version 1.0.164*

So yes there are in app purchases, but the fact that I don’t need to buy anything to avoid ads or unlock enough to play is already a plus.

The gameplay is amazing. I feel like I’m actually playing a board game. It’s almost a cross of dominion and Mtg. Really engaging play and you make enough in game currency to open new packs all the time.

The addition of having different characters with different sets of cards and abilities ensures no getting bored.

Really enjoy it, have yet to play multiplayer but I’m definitely going to introduce this to friends that play board games and see what they think.

First review I’ve ever written and yes it was prompted by the game. Yet I’m glad it did because I wouldn’t write this essay of a review otherwise.

### 5/5 — Not just another deck builder

*2020-08-17, version 1.0.143*

War of Omens offers a unique strategy experience that really rewards thoughtful play. This is an excellent game!

### 5/5 — Fun time for mama

*2020-06-28, version 1.0.143*

So silly, but I haven’t played a video game in 20 years, but I find this such a great balance between mindless and strategy.

### 5/5 — Thank you so much for adding multi-pack buying

*2020-05-06, version 1.0.131*

Honestly the only thing this game needed was to be able to buy multiple packs at once because it took a VERY long time to buy packs before.

BUT

This is not the way that it needs to be. It is now maybe 20% faster. It should be made so that you pay 10x as much and you open one pack and get 10 of the cards that you choose.

### 5/5 — Love this game!

*2020-04-06, version 1.0.107*

Great game, easy to pick up and pick down.

### 5/5 — Been playing for quite a few years

*2020-04-06, version 1.0.107*

Got in to WoO shortly after full launch on Kongregate, downloaded the ios app as soon as it was available, then the same on Steam. I’ve seen constant additions and balance changes and a very loyal fanbase.
The design of the four factions is well done, from flavor to gameplay.
The ios version has a visibility issue with cards in play from time to time, but that’s really the only major downside.
The grind vs. play to win aspect is pretty standard, and I have no issue supporting a game I love. And War of Omens has given me hundreds of hours of surprisingly deep gameplay.

### 5/5 — An incredible CCG from generous devs

*2020-04-03, version 1.0.107*

I play this every day, and it’s honestly the best game I’ve ever played. There are some seriously unique card mechanics that makes playing as each faction feel interesting and different, and the upgrade system is super generous (easy enough for free-to-play players to get it all!). Limited in scope so far, but the content available is refreshingly weird and deep in story despite being simple to learn mechanically.

I’ll honestly probably still be playing this years from now!!

### 5/5 — I love it

*2020-04-03, version 1.0.107*

I’ve been playing daily since it started on Kongregate back in 2014. Despite part time development, the game play has a ton of variety that has kept me interested all this time. The emergent game play and testing out unlikely card combinations in Tournament mode is my favorite part of the game.
