### 4/5 — What about Korea?

*2024-03-28*

It’s been years since we’ve been promised the campaigns

### 3/5 — Real Farce

*2023-09-11*

You assured us the games we waited years for would be available.

### 2/5 — Hexwar has better standards than this

*2023-03-28, version 1.5.2*

Disappointing. I watched straight leg infantry run clear across the map in a single turn to capture an objective. It was further than any of the armored units could even move. Silly.

Unrealistic, and each battle is completely dependent on how many units are stacked and in contact. Artillery is indecisive. Still can’t figure out how to call for air support, as it is not apparent.

Got bored after six games and stopped.

### 3/5 — Alright

*2021-06-03, version 1.5.2*

Cool game, but dead

### 2/5 — Can’t save after I paid 7.99 for expansion

*2019-02-09, version 1.5.2*

Can’t save if you don’t register. Then if you go to register online, guess what? You can’t.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2017-01-28, version 1.5.2*

If you are looking for a deep, engaging turn-based hex-and-counter wargame on iOS, here you go, plenty of depth and with a rules set that covers everything you'd expect, but with enough folded into the background that even newbies should be able to get playing fairly quickly. WW2 in Normandy and Arab-Israeli October War or covered extensively with loads of smaller scenarios and big campaigns, all historical and well-balanced. Good graphics, clear without being cartoony.

AI is better in small games, but the larger battles are where the game really shines. The UI takes some getting used to -- how to examine stacks of units, or how to add support to a combat -- but everything becomes clear with a few plays. IAP gets you bigger scenarios and is well worth it.

It runs smoothly on both an iPad 3 and Pro. The only reason this review is missing the fifth star is because there are problems with online multiplayer. This game would be so great playing human opponents. I think this is a big reason that the game remains so underrated, if online play was active, there would be a bigger following.

It has been long time since an update, but the third installment, the Eastern front battle of Kharkov, is near complete. Hopefully the developers will continue to support this excellent game.

### 5/5 — Huzzah!!!

*2016-10-07, version 1.5.2*

A surprisingly good game. Worth every penny.

### 5/5 — Great!!

*2016-07-06, version 1.5.2*

More games and more features, please!

### 4/5 — Great game, but add-ons are expensive

*2016-03-20, version 1.5.2*

Great game, but add-ons are expensive

### 5/5 — Turn based strategy - ya gotta love it

*2016-03-10, version 1.5.2*

If you are a fan of TBS games you will love this one.
Excellent slow-feed tutorial so you can pick up and play straight away while slowly learning the finer points of the game.
Excellent variety of units which are all beautifully detailed.
Having said that, this game (like most TBS games) does get a bit repetitive with all missions being very similar. I will take some convincing to feel that any add on campaigns are different enough to bother with.

### 5/5 — Enjoyable war game

*2016-02-29, version 1.5.2*

Hex based old school style game. Interesting game play- well balanced.

### 5/5 — Really good war game

*2016-01-02, version 1.5.2*

Plays well on iPad and is very reminiscent of board games without the hassle
I look forward to the new modules

### 5/5 — Good game but...

*2015-12-19, version 1.5.2*

From looking on their forums it seems they've stopped supporting it. Would have been great if the future expansions had released.

### 4/5 — Challenging turn-based game

*2015-12-07, version 1.5.2*

This is a good turn-based game that's easy to start and calls for good strategic and tactical thinking.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned

*2020-12-30, version 1.5.2*

Great game but abandoned by devs. In game purchasing nonfunctional. No additional content. No forum support. No updates.... Completely ghosted.... Game should be removed from the App Store.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2020-12-19, version 1.5.2*

The tutorial is lacklustre and doesn’t explain how you can get advantages or remove disadvantages when attacking the enemy, and also attacking from more than 1 direction is bad even though it should deal a huge moral blow to the enemy. There is this one soundtrack that sounds like someone having crapped their pants and and doing high knees. Oh, and did I forget to mention that DESPITE the fact that this is a paid game, you ONLY GET TO PLAY ON ONE MAP, and only ONE MODE on said map, like you are paying 5-7$ for the LITE version of a game

### 1/5 — Not supported , no updates coming

*2019-08-10, version 1.5.2*

While the game is quite good, basically all the “upcoming” updates are lies. I’ve been told via email multiple times for years. Other things have priority and “soon”. Clearly a lie.

A waste of a very good game.

Don’t waste your money.

### 1/5 — ABANDONED BY DEVELOPER - BUYER BEWARE

*2019-07-31, version 1.5.2*

I would give this game 4.5 stars, if not for the fact that I feel completely ripped off. There are only a few short campaigns, with most all the content marked as "coming next," or "under construction," etc. Never happened, and apparently it never will. As it stands, this game is not worth the investment of time and purchase price to have a game that is basically over before you even get a good feel for it. Of course, you are free to play the same few minor campaigns over and over, if that type of repetitive tedium appeals to you.

THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE APP STORE, IT IS UNFINISHED AND UNSUPPORTED!!! BEWARE!!!

### 1/5 — What happened to the updates?

*2017-02-27, version 1.5.2*

I bought this game months ago on the promise that new battles would become available. You start the game with two scenarios to choose from, with an additional 5 scenarios under development. It must be 6 months now, I've played the 2 scenarios to death while waiting patiently for something new to appear, but sadly nothing, and no news of any progress on social media, it's looking like the developers have given up on this game and their customers. On that basis I would say don't waste your money on this, it's not worth it.

### 1/5 — Crash

*2016-01-16, version 1.5.2*

I fully agree with the earlier review about the game crashing, it is very unstable and frustrating to try and play. Essentially a great little game is being held back by instability. I would like to give the game a higher rating if only it were stable.

### 1/5 — Whiskey.Tango.Hotel.

*2015-10-01, version 1.5.2*

Nice game but mine keeps on crashing every time I try to load the fourth battle.

### 1/5 — Horrible update

*2015-06-24, version 1.5*

iOS and it's developers are on a fast track to oblivion. Yet another game update that ruined the game itself. Can't even purchase the IAP that this update is all about... I assume an update for the update is near... Isn't that what the apple snobs always whined about windows etc ... ?

### 1/5 — Game no longer runs with October War Update

*2015-06-23, version 1.5*

I downloaded and attempted to purchase the October War campaign, but the game locked and would not time out during the purchase. Closing the program did not clear the lock. I uninstalled the program and now, after restoring my Normandy campaign purchase, can not load the Normandy Campaign scenario. The scenario loads to the 2/3 point of the progress bar then stops. Uninstall/Reinstall does not help....

### 1/5 — abzocke

*2015-01-11, version 1.2*

Achtung, Vollversion ist keine Vollversion......alles extra dazukamen....Salamitaktik zu, Geld abzocken.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This is Unity of Command for iPad

*2024-03-06, version 1.5.2*

It’s a GREAT game… this was a small studio. I read some the critical reviews.. these people are not realistic.

This studio was way ahead of its time. No customers (so called war gamers) supported them, so how you expect them to keep releasing content? (without paying bills?) At least it’s still on the App Store. That alone (keeping your game on the App Store) costs money.

DEAR DEVS, We have AI now..

If still considering getting back in, all these years later? Perhaps you can use ChatGPT & Mid Journey to create the dialogue and graphics? (Decrease your over head)

I’ll gladly the content, unfortunately, you removed some of the content from being purchased, I will still buy if incomplete and only a few missions.

### 5/5 — Why was this never finished?

*2022-01-17, version 1.5.2*

So many good games but this one had a chance to be great! Ahead of its time, needs to be finished.

### 5/5 — Great game

*2021-09-21, version 1.5.2*

When are the next modules going to be released. Stalingrad and Korea.

### 5/5 — Nice game

*2020-03-27, version 1.5.2*

Intuitive, easy to play and nice choice of scenarios, hope the boys at Hexwar will keep developing this one......I mean it's not like you can get outside at the moment !!!!!

### 5/5 — Relaxing

*2019-05-11, version 1.5.2*

Can’t say I am a game expert but I love playing this while kickin back on the sofa and relaxing.

### 5/5 — Update

*2019-01-13, version 1.5.2*

This game is really good but it has not been updated in a while and i want to play Kharkov, Market Garden, and The Korean War.So please update soon

### 5/5 — Great

*2018-12-25, version 1.5.2*

I have been playing hex-based S&T/AH games for 50 years, and this is really super!

### 5/5 — Fun and polished

*2018-04-09, version 1.5.2*

Fun and polished game with simple mechanics - thoroughy enjoyable so far

### 5/5 — Addresses neglected conflicts

*2018-02-28, version 1.5.2*

One of the only games on any platform to address the Arab-Israeli conflicts. I can’t wait until the Korean War scenario is complete. I hope the developers continue to add content and continue to address conflicts that are ignored by most games.

### 5/5 — Top Notch!

*2017-09-04, version 1.5.2*

A really satisfying game engine makes for a great game. Highly recommended!
