### 1/5 — Great Publication. Lousy App

*2018-05-07*

Proving once again that competent tech geeks work for Google, not conservative publishers operating on a shoe string, the people behind the Weekly Standard app have provided the worst possible smart phone interface for their magazine. To call the app buggy, glitchy or finicky would imply that it sometimes works. As of this writing, my iOS subscription gives me access to the April 2 issue, which is at least 6 issues behind. Trying to update my subscription produces this message: “Your subscription to the Oklahoman is current and will renew on December 31, 1969.” I am not making this up.

A call to subscription services resulted in a nice lady reading to me over the phone a mile-long URL link for a 90-day digital subscription. As you may have guessed, the requested URL was not found. So no app, no access, no help, and I paid something like $60 for the annual subscription. This makes Trump University look like a bargain.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2018-05-05*

This app has not been updated since the April 2nd issue and I am notified that my subscription is current until 1969.

It’s been kind of charming for a conservative magazine to be technically challenged, but the charm wears off. I contacted the magazine directly, but the reply claimed that there is an Apple problem. Not a good excuse for a company trying to sell a magazine.

One star only because I couldn’t give it a zero.

### 1/5 — Unable to download new issues

*2018-04-25*

The last issue I have been able to download is the April 2, 2018, issue with John Kasicki on the cover. I deleted it, then reinstalled the app with the hope that that would fix the problem, but it did not. This is not the first time I’ve had problems downloading new issues.

### 1/5 — App Under Construction

*2018-04-24*

I have not received a magazine for four weeks. Although I do have a notification in the Select Issue screen that says “Your subscription to The Oklahoman is current. It will automatically renew on Wednesday, December 31, 1969.” As there is no easy way to find how to get help I called up the subscription department and they indicated they were aware of the problem and many other digital subscribers are having the same issue, as the app is under construction. What poor planning or incompetence.

### 1/5 — Can’t log on

*2018-04-12*

Accidentally logged off. Can’t log on because app says my info is incorrect. Subscription services said I had to log via the website first and then thru the app. No luck. Grrr.

### 1/5 — You Can Download Our App (For A Price

*2017-12-30, version 1.1.11*

I’m a Millennial. I cannot afford to pay (monthly) 4 an app. At least the liberals at the NYT let me subscribe via email (w/no strings).

### 1/5 — Still broken, what a shame a great magazine has such a poor app

*2017-10-17*

The content of this publication is first rate.

The app is so badly executed it should be executed.

Issues failed to load. Then they fixed that problem but now when you try to read articles they don’t scroll properly.

Bugs and crashes are so common with this app you could use it as a training tool for how not to make an app.

I really hate writing this review because I’ve been a subscriber since this magazine started many years ago. Such a terrible shame that no one at the publisher cares about the quality of the app.

I’m running a 2016 model of the iPad Pro 9.6 with all the latest updates. So it should run properly if they were keeping up to date on Apple’s developer standards. Since the app has been broken for months and through a full update earlier this month, they clearly just don’t have the competence to manage an app.

For your own sanity, stick to the print version of this fine magazine.

### 1/5 — Great Mag.....App Terrible.....

*2017-09-29, version 1.1.7*

So far every time I open.....and go to issues.....it crashes. 10 attempts......

So. Whatcha gonna do...... do I need to call.....you pinheads?

### 1/5 — App won't open

*2017-07-05, version 1.1.2*

Thought I'd add a conservative opinion app to get a different POV than my own but when I try to open the app to access the content nothing happens. Now I feel ripped off. Caveat emptor.

### 1/5 — Pathetic App

*2017-04-05, version 1.1.2*

Often cannot download magazines ..when I do download a magazine I have been charged at least double the listed price with no warning. I am deleting this app now

### 1/5 — No free issue

*2017-03-27, version 1.1.2*

Bait and switch

### 1/5 — App isn't on par with other magazines

*2016-10-01*

Love the magazine but the app needs a lot of work. I want to read a magazine like a magazine. Not a tablet of contents that looks like a webpage. You can't just browse the magazine, you have to go form the table of contents to story back to table of contents back to next story.

### 1/5 — No Access

*2016-05-31, version 1.1.2*

Hard to win in the marketplace of ideas when the app does not work.

### 1/5 — This App is the worst

*2015-11-10, version 1.1.2*

Seriously give up. How does one cancel this monthly "service"?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Broken again

*2025-03-23*

From tech support

I appreciate your patience. Please do not use any of the apps at this time, as they are currently being updated with no set timeframe for completion.
In the meantime, please use a web browser on your iPad to access the platform while the updates are in progress.
Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding!
Thank you!

### 1/5 — Still not ready for prime time

*2022-08-26*

The digital app is unstable. Selected stories close on their own, and the share links do not work.

I finally deleted it out of frustration. Other reviews indicate the app has not been tended to in a long time.

I prefer the scrolling headlines of the digital over the other Washington Examiner app, but cannot put up with the digital shortcomings .

### 1/5 — App does not even open

*2020-08-30, version 2.2*

What a poor reflection on the magazine

### 1/5 — Can not log in

*2020-08-02*

The app’s log-in jumps around when one attempts to log in! Impossible! I’m a print & digital subscriber, and desperately want to use the app as well. I am disgusted with WEX technology. Do not subscribe unless you are happy with print only.

### 1/5 — It is in french! There is no english version!!

*2019-08-03, version 2.2*

It is in french! No english version!

### 1/5 — Updated App Does Not Work

*2018-07-09*

The updated Weekly Standard app does not work any better than the previous version, which means it does not work at all. The PageSuite technical support people do not seem to be at all interested in fixing this.

Some things should just not be purchased through iTunes. This includes the Weekly Standard.

### 1/5 — Terrible support

*2018-06-25*

I paid for a full year subscription the beginning of this year. In April the app stopped working and new issues wouldn’t download. Two months later the problem persists. When I call the magazine they blame Apple, and when I call Apple they blame the magazine. No one will refund my money! It doesn’t get any worse than that!

### 1/5 — Still broken and they took my money

*2018-06-07*

I have been a reading the Weekly Standard since it launched and on my iPad for three years until it stoped working. I paid for a yearly subscription but no new issues have loaded since April. They were no help when I called. Don’t waste your money on the digital version.

### 1/5 — Great publication! Horrible app

*2018-05-25, version 1.1.12*

App won’t load on either of my devices. Please help! TWS: When will this be fixed?

### 1/5 — Shoot the developer

*2018-05-24*

The app stinks. It has never been good, but isn’t working at all now. It hasn’t downloaded a new issue this month, which I paid for. Deleting and reinstalling doesn’t help. Deleting, reinstalling, and logging in as an existing subscriber reveals the message that my subscription to The Oklahoman is good until 1969. Yay for me.

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful.

May 24 update. Still not working. This kind of nonsense and indifference to readers has happened before, but not usually this long. I’ve been a reader since the mag’s first year. Pains me, but I’ve already cancelled automatic renewal.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Improved with 3.0 update

*2021-09-14*

Significant improvements have been made from prior iterations (almost 2 years ago!). Highly recommended now.

### 5/5 — Finally! An update

*2018-08-29*

Updated app has been working beautifully since early July. Log in details are recognized, I can download and read stories later plus the articles are displayed in a much more friendly way on my phone.

### 5/5 — Weekly standard

*2012-12-10, version 1.0*

As usual, excellent work.

### 4/5 — Needs full page format

*2013-01-27, version 1.0.1*

Great content. The header with big DONE button is not fun to look at. Could be a richer experience with pop up header similar to other apps.

### 3/5 — Working OK on an iPad Pro

*2016-01-04*

You have to put text size at the minimum, and it's not showing all the graphics, but it's usable.

### 3/5 — Download problems

*2013-05-21, version 1.0.1*

Have enjoyed the Weekly Standard without problems until this latest issue which I am unable to download. I deleted the site and reinstalled, but no luck. Able to reinstall prior issues without problem. Yes..I have a paid subscription. If continues, no sense in continuing.

### 2/5 — No back button?

*2024-04-06*

Why does the app version for IPad require one to go back to the homepage after viewing an article? You can’t even look at all the news articles or opinion pieces without going back to the main page. Can’t Washington Examiner afford a back button?

### 2/5 — A sad app for a fine mag

*2018-10-14, version 2.0*

Great content, stinker of an app. Needs fixing, PRONTO.

### 2/5 — App needs major update

*2018-05-07, version 1.1.12*

I’m a subscriber, the app edition is stuck on the April 2 edition of the magazine . Please fix and add the current magazine edition.

### 2/5 — Subscriber

*2013-05-23, version 1.0.1*

Can't download current issue and app doesn't recognize my address or PW. I am a print & premium digital subscriber and have no problem signing on to the main NR website.
