I enjoyed the Examiner when I got hard copies in the DC metro area but this digital version is not worth the frustration. ### 1/5 — Frustrating *2024-05-30, version 6.4* Glitchy app. Articles don’t load properly. Pop-ups won’t close. When the ads prevent me from reading the article you’ve screwed up. Not the first time this has happened with the crappy Washington Examiner app. This time it’s Caesars Sportsbook. Can’t “x” or escape from the ad. Have to close the app and try to avoid the ad when I re-open. You’ve got a crappy app. It’s been crappy for years. Simple activities like copy-paste are almost impossible to use. It crashes. Any high schooler could put together a better app in serving the content in about an hour. Yet the Washington Examiner, who content I love and rely on, won't shell out a nickel to bring this app into 2024. It's currently stuck somewhere in 2005. Don't bother using it. I found an article that your organization might be a decent alternative. I downloaded your app and quite literally have never experienced a bigger lack of effort in my life. This app is riddled with ads, to the point where you can't even sign up or subscribe because the ads constantly pop in to the page and interfere with your efforts to just simply through your email address. Quite literally you cannot enter your email address without 10 or 15 different tries and then only if you get extremely lucky and can beat the pop-up ads that will interfere. Come on guys. Just try a little. Our team needs people that will try just a little bit more. The other side is handing us our backsides and companies like yours are so apathetic. The plethora of ads makes reading content highly frustrating. I beseech the Washington examiner to clean this up! ### 2/5 — Its like they are paid content for De Santis *2023-03-15* I think De Santis is a great governor, I thought Trump was an effective president. Elon is brave and Mitch McConnell part of the swamp. I am allowed to reach those decisions but your writers should withhold from their bias or preferences. Report! You shouldn’t dedicate your paper to destroy Trump or be on DeSantis payroll. Just as bad as Bloomberg but with less depth and you hide behind a conservative “persona” that isn’t real. ### 1/5 — Can’t read articles because of ads fir subscription *2023-02-05, version 6.4* I’m a long time subscriber. I’ve confirmed Ed that I have a paid up subscription. But subscription ads prevent me from reading articles. Pathetic. ### 1/5 — The Worst *2023-01-21, version 6.4* The content is good. The website is merely OK. The iOS app is the absolute worst. Someone should be fired. ### 2/5 — Moving to a “subscribe or annoy” model *2023-01-16* The app has never been that great, but I overlooked it’s shortcomings and the fact they continuously want to copy things from my clipboard on accessing the app. But this subscribe or we’ll annoy you until you do model is what is making me delete this app from my phone. Again! *2022-07-26* I love the content but rarely bother to open the app because it is unweildly to navigate, horribly slow and prone to glitching and crashing. I realize you have to make money but your ads are the most intrusive and annoying of any app I read. The content is constantly jumping around making it impossible to read. Seriously, there is an overwhelming amount of negative feedback, but the problems still subsist. The lack of concern on behalf of the WAEX is equally aggravating. They are not reading the reviews, or they just flat out don’t care, whichever it is, it amounts to a complete lack of concern and forethought for the readers, and that is insulting. Therefore, I have dropped my previous rating of 2 stars down to 1. If the content itself we’re not worth reading, I would drop it to zero. However, if you continue to ignore the concerns of your readers regarding these problems, I will delete it. There are many other very good and better solid news sources available to choose from. This app is one of the most frustrating I have ever used. The ads are interrupting my read by freezing up, or causing the story to skip, sometimes having to close out the app altogether. If I lose the article I cannot go back to it, I have to scroll through every article to find the one I was reading. Seriously annoying. Usually well written and on meaningful topics. A refreshing change from the MSM that gaslights the public into oblivion. But sadly the app is horrendously non-user friendly. Signing in alone is a chore that often closes the app before I can start using it. I’d rather just pay more for the printed copy of the current issue. Can’t get past the WIX ad for the past 5 minutes. When I attempt to X out the ad it will only expand. But now You can read the headlines but when you click on the story an ad comes up. But the ad will never go away so you can read the story. Every once in awhile you can get a story but once you are finished you can’t navigate back to headlines. I’ve even reloaded the app and it still fails. However, I am frustrated by the constant mal pop ads and being redirected to unwanted ads. Covers the issues at hand with some interesting articles I don't find on my other news apps. Photos are good and articles are well written. Easy to maneuver. Have not had any of the "porn" pop ups noted in earlier reviews. ### 4/5 — Real Conservative News *2021-11-10* It is important to note that the Washington Examiner is the most truthful conservative source out there! It is the least biased and most straightforward conservative source for news. It prints the least untruths among all the others. It truly is the NYT of right leaning news. ### 4/5 — I love this app but it needs 2 more fixes *2018-05-03* I love the Washington Examiner’s content, and they fixed my previous problem with pop-up videos in the app. However I still would like 2 fixes on the technical side: The first: even though video advertisements no longer pop-up intrusively, they still play automatically where they’re imbedded in the page while I’m reading the article. This causes unnecessary data usage because of loading videos without me asking for them, and it also automatically cuts off whatever music I’m listening to when I clicked on the story. This makes it a pain to use this app while I work out. Once I pause the video, it takes over as whatever was last playing, so when I try to “un-pause” my music, it just plays the video ad again. Second, (this started happening within the last 2-3 weeks). The app seems to completely freeze randomly (but does not force quit itself/crash). The interesting thing here is even when I hit menu and leave the app, when I come back it’s frozen the same way and even if I force quit the app 1-2 times, when I re-open it, it’s frozen the same way it was before, on the same spot in an article, etc. this may be some sort of bug. I am running iOS 11.3.1 - the most recent OS at this time. I just want to say this app has progressed a lot and is much more enjoyable, the content is great and it no longer heats up my phone. I think some screenshots of the new version would be in order to update the App Store listing. ### 4/5 — Almost there *2014-07-18, version 6.0.3* First of all, I love reading the examiner. I miss reading it on the metro in the morning. As for the app, it's a streamlined version of the website with a few hiccups. The top story slider, first on the page, tends to get stuck. Not a big problem, just doesn't feel fluid. Almost every time I click an article further down, (in a section called on the beltway or something) I end up clicking on the authors name. Maybe I have fat thumbs, but it happens when I tap pretty far from their names. Anywho, great start for a great paper.
