Although I would have given a 5 star but couldn't because I gave The New York Times a 5 star and that's an amazing app!! But do we need an on the Crossword blocking the keyboard every 5 minutes?? ### 4/5 — Mr *2026-08-27, version 7.13.0* One of the very top news outlets ### 2/5 — why the new ads??? *2026-08-27, version 7.13.0* i love doing the daily crossword, and i don’t mind sitting through the little 15 second ad before starting the puzzle. but then. then, the newest update came out and now there’s ad pop ups in-game that COVER THE WHOLE KEYBOARD. and the exit button on the ad doesn’t appear for at least 15-30 seconds. furthermore, once you’ve exited out of the stupid pop-up, you don’t even have enough time to type more than 3 letters before THE SAME AD POPS UP AGAIN AND WONT GO AWAY. like, washington post doesn’t even make their own crossword, they just use the LA Times crossword every day—so there’s really no excuse for why these ads are being pushed so aggressively. it’s made the app completely unusable. ### 3/5 — No Longer the Free Press Example *2026-08-26, version 7.13.0* Contrary to a promise, Bezos is now interfering in WAPO reporting. Have been a subscriber for over 40 years. The news is restricted as are the opinion pieces. The sports and business sections are a joke. I do not support these government policies but do like honest opinion pieces and plan to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal to secure fair opinion pieces and outstanding and honest business and finance reporting. Bezos has ruined this paper. ### 3/5 — Too Many Taps Needed After Entering Password *2026-08-25, version 7.13.0* Why does it require three taps after I enter my password to get to reading the paper (four if I tap the Return key to submit the password, which works for the e-mail address but not that)? The first to submit the password, the second to get rid of a very annoying “Thank you!” pop-up for signing in, and the third to get rid of the sign-in screen (from the Print Edition section) or else to get back to the Home/Top Stories page (if I sign in from there). Please at least remove that “Thank you” pop-up dialog! ### 1/5 — Ads *2026-08-25, version 7.13.0* There’s a neat little pop-up banner that presents itself over the keyboard throughout the crossword puzzle which makes it impossible to enjoy the game. As leadership at WaPo is striving to destroy the free press, they are also working overtime to eliminate fun. Since the capitulation of Jeff Bezos to the MAGA movement, either from cowardice or greed, and the subsequent changes in editorial policy, I regretfully can no longer count on the Post. WAPO1 , though much reduced in resources still produces fine reporting. WAPO 2 consists of demented remnants for whom Chester A Arthur seems to be a lodestone, and a fortunately ever changing crowd of contributors clearly off their meds and/or in need of remedial education to get them up to succeeding in a failing middle school do no honor to what was so recently a great small -d democratic institution needs to be replaced in their entirety. Much laughter followed by tears is generated from reading their reality-defying dislocated rants and scribblings. ### 3/5 — Why you got a Low Score *2026-08-24, version 7.12.0* The Comic section. Bring back ‘Liberty Meadows’. It is the funniest and they have local reference . Good work Mr. Chao. Your advertisements are lacking. You need to spend more money and get higher quality ads. You are not listening to me! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Bezos Mouthpiece *2026-08-31, version 7.14.0* The editorial pages are increasingly a war against Social Security and other social spending, while saying nothing about the problems with military spending on wars and tax cuts for the rich. Some of the editorials are just a total boost for anything that Donald Trump does. Besos and his employees clearly know what side their bread is buttered on. ### 1/5 — Moral of the Story: Don’t Fire Your Best Writers! *2026-08-30, version 7.13.0* I am Centrist enough that the Post’s sharp veer to the Radical Right was disconcerting, but I just wanted the News and Sports anyways. To do the crossword puzzle, you have to watch an ad every time you open the app. And even after getting past the ad, a pop-up ad blocks your keyboard from being able to do anything. Two recent examples: The story about Open AI’s model breaking out of its constraints and breaking into a company called Hugging Face to obtain data illegally, and a story about Trump’s executive order directing the postal service not to deliver mail-in ballots to states who refuse to deliver their voter rolls to the Feds. I read both stories first in the WP, with other papers lagging behind in their coverage.
