And it never send my reset password email. And it never let me to create another account. I cannot do anything with my wet cloth now. ### 1/5 — Terrible at Best *2020-02-10, version 1.2.1* The app keeps logging me out, meaning I have to sign in every time I have to do laundry which defeats the purpose of having it on your personal device. The Bluetooth doesn’t work at all, and it seems like there is no option for people who want to use cash. Also, the timing for the dryers are off, and there is no notification system which sort of defeats the purpose of having a timer on the app. ### 1/5 — One star is being generous *2020-02-03, version 1.2.1* The worst company/app I have ever had to use in my whole entire life. Every time I attempt to do my laundry I have a problem. The machines NEVER work and the app NEVER loads properly. Now because of the poorly functioning app I have 2 loads of my laundry sitting SOAKING wet, the only solution I have is to call support but the company support team conveniently starts work at 12pm. No one should literally every waste their time or money with this service, it is absolutely terrible. ### 1/5 — Makes Laundry More Difficult *2020-01-29, version 1.2.1* This app could be very helpful, but the whole concept was very poorly executed. The app logs you out every time do you laundry, does not alert you when laundry is done (as it said it should) and the Bluetooth tap function has NEVER worked. Why would anyone think needing an app and an account to wash clothes is a good idea. I don’t know what kind of deal this company made with MIT to install these machines but there should be an investigation. ### 1/5 — Terrible service, incorrect billing *2019-11-28, version 1.2.1* This machine and the app are a sick joke. The Bluetooth never works. 90% of the time the machines say there’s an error and won’t work. And, worse, you get double-billed and charged double, but then can’t reach someone or they refuse to refund you for their mistake. Everyone who lives in my building has been constantly complaining about how awful Washlava is. ### 1/5 — Kafkaesque *2019-11-14, version 1.2.1* Did you know? Our new dryer model uses RINSE-LAVA technology to ensure that your clothes are done after only thirty seconds after putting them into the machine! ### 1/5 — Basically Broken *2019-11-09, version 1.2.1* After resetting my password the app would not accept the new password. Since I was using a password manager and upon setting a shorter password it worked, they seem to have some problem with long passwords. The app displays an error when you attempt to pay in MIT Techcash, which is supposed to work. The washing machine switched from cold (which I selected) to hot when starting without me doing anything. ### 1/5 — Awful system, highly not recommended *2019-11-05, version 1.2.1* It’s horrible. The app hardly works. The dryers practically don’t work. ### 1/5 — Terrible user interface, glitchy product, I hate everything about it *2019-10-28, version 1.2.1* Bluetooth doesn’t work, and the “easy” interface is anything but. Once you pay for a machine in my dorm, you’re not able to change the temperature or load settings. But you need to pay to reserve the machine. So you have to pray the previous washer used the same settings you want. AVOID WASHLAVA AT ALL COSTS ### 1/5 — No password recovery *2019-10-25, version 1.2.1* If you forget your password, good luck doing laundry, because the stupid password recovery option is hidden behind the keyboard that won’t go down for anything, and there’s no way to do it on their website as far as I can find. ### 1/5 — Not Ready for Implementation *2019-10-17, version 1.2.1* - Machines lock once started, impossible to stop or open door - No way to view or use "credits" - App does not save user credentials, I have to retype my password every other week - The "use Bluetooth and hold your phone up to a machine" thing never works. ever - Why the hell does the app say i’m paying in Japanese yen??? - The app should notify me when my laundry is done. duh This system, while nice-looking, was clearly not ready for deployment on my campus. Even when it was realized there were problems, the team was fairly opaque about the process of fixing things. boo. ### 1/5 — Really annoying and inefficient *2019-09-25, version 1.2.1* The perfectly working laundry machines got switched to these a while ago in my dorm. Besides the fact that machines go down frequently, people reserve machines way ahead, wasting time when someone is already in the laundry room, ready to start their laundry and has to wait for the reservation to expire. Also now I have to bring my phone to the laundry room, since there is no way we can use the good old quarters. Oh, and did I say they increased the prices by $0.25? Just awful, there is no need at all for IOT washing machines or anything else that works great without internet. It just adds extra complexity and makes people’s lives worse. ### 1/5 — Better hope you’re not forced to use this *2019-09-24, version 1.2.1* I honestly can’t believe how poor this app and system is. -it’s nearly impossible to tap the “forgot your password” link because your keyboard covers it up. You have to be close the app and be fast before the keyboard pops up -the Bluetooth starting machines has consistently not worked and gives an error message after you select the machine -even when you start machines manually, sometimes the app crashes upon trying to start -one time, after clicking “pay” the washer immediately started on the hot cycle without a choice and no way to stop it. This then confused the app and as such it never realized the machine started and didn’t give the time via the app I cannot fathom why laundry needs to be with smart devices, but I would at least appreciate an actually usable system. It is painfully obvious from the app, machines, and even in the lengthy and heavily-delayed way it was implemented in my building that Washlava is terribly incompetent and is in way over their head. I can only hope that people notice how utterly incapable this company is before they scam more colleges, apartments, buildings, etc. into creating a contract with them. ### 1/5 — Stop Charging me!!!! *2019-09-24, version 1.2.1* My school recently started using Washlava but the machines keep not functioning. They keep offering free laundry for our troubles, but then when I do laundry, they charge. I’ve honestly had enough of the BS. ### 1/5 — App is awful *2019-09-23, version 1.2.1* The machines themselves are an upgrade from the previous laundry situation in my dorm, but the app and the way things are being handled by washlava are absolutey awful. We were promised free laundry credits while they figure it out, but there is no way to access or view the credits in the app. Apparently the only way to see how many credits you have is to email washlava support and have an employee access the records directly??? Even then there is no way to use the credits. I was charged for laundry that I should have been able to use credits for, but instead of sending money back to my mit techcash account, they just gave me more credits, which I haven’t been able to use so far????? And then washlava support said that I should enter my credit card info because the credits are currently set up such that they are only used when you select credit card as payment method, which would be more or less fine, except I’ve now heard that the washlava servers are very easily hacked such that if I did enter my credit card info, practically anyone would be able to steal my credit card info. This is absolutely ridiculous!!! If washlava has a team of customer support than can respond to my emails in <1 hour, they should DEFINITEY have a team of app developers that can solve these problems ### 1/5 — Laundry list of problems *2019-09-21, version 1.2.1* I want to like this system - it would be great if it worked. But I hope Washlava has learned to test before they deploy, because literally every component of their system was malfunctioning when we got back to campus. Three weeks later and the system is still in limbo, and the laundry credits we were promised hasn’t materialized. BUT even if all of the hardware was broken I’d still expect at least the app to work, but it has serious usability issues. It doesn't remember my login info from week to week, which is just nonsensical. And it doesn’t send notifications when your laundry is done, which is honestly the only advantage of “smart” laundry machines. The only thing the app does well is charging my debit card. Seriously, make sure you’re at feature parity with a decade-old laundry system before you tout your Bluetooth connected (broken) more efficient (false) and easier to use (false) alternative. ### 1/5 — Laundry battle royale *2019-09-17, version 1.2.1* How are 300 college students supposed to share 3 dryers when the others all break for a week? At this rate we could build our own ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — I would gladly pay to not use Washlava *2022-10-03, version 1.2.1* Ignoring the fact that this app has no reason to exist and that MIT switched to using Washlava for laundry without any clear reason, Washlava has numerous issues. Frequently, we students pay for and start a dryer cycle, only to return an hour later to find that the clothes are both damp and cold; no attempt at drying was even made. And then, what can one do besides pay for another cycle and pray that it works this time? At this point, 5/8 dryers in our dorm are unusable and Washlava technicians have never been able to solve the issue. Not even going to get into the connection issues of the app. It’s so bad. Please never use this if you can. ### 1/5 — Difficult to log in and connect *2022-09-14, version 1.2.1* Just hard to use ### 1/5 — Pointless app with that scams users *2022-07-01, version 1.2.1* First part of the title is self explanatory. There’s no reason an organization should ever need to use this app. The app doesn’t add any convenience over cash or credit card payments. The scamming part is a whole different story. Washlava does not allow you to change any settings on the washing machines until you’ve already payed for it. While this may not seem bad at first, the problem is that you have no way of knowing if the machines actually work. You could very well end up paying to wash your clothes and having to switch machines because the cycle won’t start or you can’t change to the settings you need. Happened to me twice out of the 3 times I’ve used the app. If you see an apartment, dorm, etc. using this app, take that into account before moving in because laundry will be a hassle for sure. ### 1/5 — Horrible Experience *2022-04-08, version 1.2.1* Logs me out after 2 weeks, horrible to use, unresponsive to when washing machine doesn’t work. This entire “experience” has no reason to exist. It’s extra, anti-user complications to make less processing fees for the laundry company due to not using physical money or other forms of payment besides direct card payments. My university has installed these horrible light-up hockey pucks on our machines and I hope that we may organize to have them removed. Our university had free laundry as just a COVID measure and now is planning to make us pay. Screw this. ### 1/5 — Functional, but entirely pointless. *2021-11-02, version 1.2.1* As the title states, this app works, but ultimately serves no purpose. The one star rating is not for poor functionality, but for the utter lack of reason behind this app. Reserving a machine only offers benefit in theory; it does not work in practice. All it creates is frustration for those who may not have the time to reserve a machine, nevermind the fact that it locks them until the load is run, blocking anyone else from getting any potential use if said reservation is hours in advance. Furthermore, while the in-app timer is semi-helpful, it has no chime, meaning you have to check regularly or set a timer anyway for when the machine is finished. On top of this, for all but ONE school in the nation, student cards cannot be registered, meaning the only option is debit or credit. If other reviews are to be trusted, your information is at risk thanks to poor security on the servers. To all prospective users and providers, please, DO NOT use this service or any like it. To all current users, please drop the service; it’s a waste of money for you and those under your care. ### 1/5 — Terrible and a waste of time *2021-10-29, version 1.2.1* Not only is the app terrible, but it hardly works. Doesn’t notify me when my laundry is done, has charged me extra for no reason, and hasn’t worked for both times I have used it. This is a terrible app and system. Buggy app and poor service *2021-04-20, version 1.2.1* I’m forced to use Washlava since it’s the only way I can pay for laundry at my dorm. If you’re considering making the switch to it: don’t! While the machines work fine, having to use an app is inconvenient: - The app doesn’t keep me logged in or save my info to make things quick. I constantly have to type things in again for each cycle I run. - Phones can recognize which machine I’m trying to use using Bluetooth but it won’t connect to pay. Why include the feature if it’s not going to work and I have to type the numbers in manually? - Me and my friends have been having issues logging in. We kept getting authentication errors and when we called the phone number on the poster, it was out of service. Additionally, the phone number on the website doesn’t answer. - The app doesn’t send notifications that laundry is done even after giving access. - Hasn’t been updated in over a year ### 1/5 — Horrible *2021-03-03, version 1.2.1* Horrible at every step.
