What's New in Watersports Tracker

4.4.37

August 11, 2026

Stroke counting for paddlers. Your Apple Watch now counts your paddle strokes while you record — kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle, dragon boat and outrigger canoe. On iPhone you get the full picture: cadence minute by minute, your best efforts, time in each cadence zone, glide per stroke, cadence against heart rate and speed, a map coloured by how hard you were paddling, and splits. Tacks & gybes for sailors. Open a session and tap the new Tacks & gybes card: every turn you made is on the satellite map, told apart automatically as a tack or a gybe. Tap a turn to zoom into its arc and see the turn angle, minimum speed, entry and exit course, and duration. The wind direction is estimated from your track alone — no weather data, just the way you sailed. Please check it, and if it looks wrong, adjust it with one tap. Your correction is saved with the session and syncs to your other devices. Let me know how the detection works for you — the feedback is what makes it better. Also in this update: The Tacks list is now called Runs — the legs you sail between turns. With a run or turn selected, sharing now asks whether you want just that one or all of them. Fixed the map cutting off part of the track in detail views.

Amazing app for kayaking

I absolutely love this app. It tracks everything, provides a map once your trip is completed, you can add pictures. I have never had an issue with it. Highly recommend it!!

Very poor

Crashed the moment I tried to record. Finally got it working but the quality isn’t great and is very basic.

Great tracking, but impossible to stop session in real water conditions

I’m using this app on an Apple Watch Ultra for kitesurfing and downwinders. Tracking quality and data are good, but there is a serious usability problem in real water conditions.

When the watch and screen are wet (which is unavoidable in kitesurfing), the touchscreen often cannot be used reliably. At the same time, the app does not provide a proper hardware fallback to stop or end a session. The Digital Crown and side buttons cannot be used to stop the workout, so you can get “stuck” in a running session until the screen is completely dry.

This is not a hardware issue — it’s a design issue. In water sports, apps must support stopping/ending a session via hardware controls (e.g. long press on Digital Crown, button combination, or Action Button on Apple Watch Ultra). Relying mainly on touch input does not work in real-world conditions.

I really like the app and would be happy to keep using it, but this is a critical problem for kitesurfing and similar sports. If the developers could add a reliable hardware-based stop option, this app would be excellent.

FAQ

What kind of watersports can I track with this app?

This app is designed for a variety of watersports including surfing, paddleboarding (SUP), kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoe, rafting, sailing, and yachting. It provides dedicated tracking and analysis for each activity.

What statistics does the app provide after a session?

After each session, you can view detailed statistics on a map. These include the distance covered, the duration of the session, your maximum speed achieved, and your average speed throughout the activity.

How does the app handle subscriptions and pricing?

The app offers pro features through subscriptions with options for 1 Year, 6 Months, or 3 Months. Payments are charged to your iTunes Account, and subscriptions automatically renew unless turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

Can this app integrate with Apple Health?

Yes, the app integrates with the Health app to provide heart rate data throughout your workout and also helps in updating your activity rings. This allows for a more comprehensive view of your fitness.

Is the app waterproof or can I use it in the water directly?

The app itself is not waterproof. If you wish to track your sessions with your phone directly in or near water, you will need to use a good waterproof case for your iPhone, as iPhones are not inherently waterproof.
