### 5/5 — 5 star

*2024-10-15*

Honestly I never give reviews but this app deserves 5 stars. Raising accessibility and offering actually helpful content. I love the guided journal that is able to summarize your thoughts in different words and respond. Very thoughtfully designed.

### 2/5 — Coach never showed up?

*2024-03-26*

The coach never joined the session and I was waiting for 30 minutes and that’s all they give you in a session anyway. I’m giving it 2 stars because the rest of the app is great and it’s helped me understand myself just don’t use for sessions. I would seek a therapist in person if that’s what helps you!

**Developer response:** Hi there! We're so sorry to hear that your coach never showed. We'd love to offer you another free session if you're willing to try again? Please reach out to coaching@wavelife.io. If not, no worries, and we're glad that the rest of the app has been useful for you.

### 5/5 — Good

*2024-01-14*

This app is overall there for you, don’t sugar over anything it make you feels real and unique I would like to keep using it , and find out more about my deepest feelings 🥰

**Developer response:** We are so pleased to find that the app has been useful to you. It's why we do what we do. ✨

### 4/5 — Good

*2023-12-04*

It’s an alright app. If you aren’t very good at managing your emotions I could see it being very useful. The free part of the app has lots of useful information. I’m not sure if the counselors are any good, I haven’t tried it yet. You get one free session. The reason it doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because it has that “digital stuffed animal” type of style to it. Comforting in the moment, but hasn’t improved the parts of my life where I’m seeking growth.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for this feedback! We'd actually love to hear more about the "digital stuffed animal" style if you're open to us interviewing you about it? We're always hoping to update the style and utility of the app to resonate with more people. If you're open, please reach out to us at support@wavelife.io.

### 3/5 — Overall good could go more in depth

*2023-09-21*

I would rate this app on a scale of 1-5 as a 3. The reasoning behind this is that there is both about an equal amount of good and bad to this app. Steinberg in her writing on Adolescence in Lifespan perspective says, “Periods of heightened brain plasticity are times when our experiences are likely to have enduring effects. We have known for some time that the first few years of life constitute one such period. We now know that adolescence is another.” (pg. 219). Knowing this, teens being able to use an app such as wave to help them manage their emotions at this age is highly beneficial. If they are able to grow their emotional stability at an age like this where they are highly plasticable, they will be able to hold onto those new skills much easier then if they tried to learn it at an age where they are developing as much. Since teens in this developmental age are usually on their phones, even being able to download an easily accessible app to work on their mental health, especially one that provides counseling, is great. The great thing about this app is that it is easy to log into. It takes about 3 minutes to download and join the app. It is very easy to use in the sense that there are many activities sectioned off into the 6 different skills the app provides. The activities are short and easy, and there are interactive activities like quizzes and the guided meditation. It does give easy accessibility to knowledge and resources on bettering one’s mental health which is great. Another aspect is according to Janet Edgette, “Most teens are in therapy only because their parents, their teachers, the juvenile court judge, and/or some adult in authority somewhere has told them they must see a therapist..” (Edgette, 2012). Using an app like Waves allows teenagers to take therapy into their own hands. It is true that usually teens are required or told to by an authority figure that they must go to therapy. This makes them reluctant to do so since they are being told to do it. The nice thing about downloading an app on one’s phone, is that it allows the teen to make their own decision on seeking mental health help and allows them to go on their own pace. They are the ones in control. The downfall to this app is it is almost too easy. It does seem a bit childlike in this matter. The visuals are all human like animals, and the main color to this website is just white. The activities are 3-5 slides and take about a minute to read. I think it would be more beneficial for users 13+ to have activities that go a bit more in depth and were a little more interactive in general. I feel it would be more appropriate to give this app a rating of users 6-10 since the activities seem more catered to that age. Another great quote from Janette Edgette is, “This reticence can convey to the teen client not that these therapists genuinely care, but that they're willing to sacrifice a measure of self-respect in order to appease the client.” WIth this sort of app conveying child like tendencies, where it seems the app is vaguely talking about topics on not truly diving into them as one should for someone who is 13+, they may feel like this app is not for them. They may not connect to the app since it is not being realistic in the ways they need it to be, and therefore may get bored of the app and delete or irregularly use it. That is my fear of this app. Since I being,a young adult, I did find it not as enticing pretty quickly. Overall, this app is a great idea and does give some great resources for mental health and an opportunity to receive mental health coaching. It is a good resource for users to have since they can download it at the tip of their fingers. It is especially useful for those at a developmental age since learning this skills now while they are plasticable will benefit them later on. The app could be better if it fixed its artwork on the app and went more into depth on the topics its trying to give further knowledge on. This way the app would be more beneficial to 13+ as it states. As of now I would give this app a rating of 3, but if it would acknowledge and change those things I would give it a 4.5 or 5.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this thoughtful review! Over the last few months, we've been building out our content library to dive deeper on more topics that our users have been asking for. We've redesigned the layout of our Explore tab to make the content easier to find, as well. We're also updating the illustration style to move more away from animals, as our target audience really is young adults like you! And, we're actively creating more and more immersive content such as videos and audio. We'd love if you'd take another look and let us know what you think about the changes we're making!

### 1/5 — Sexual features

*2023-09-10*

This app has many different bytes to transform people to accept and explore or pursue homosexual and other LGBTQ ideals as if they are healthy or in a way it claims is healthy. This is not Christian worthy counseling. If you have a child or a teen who needs mental health counseling to heal and grow who is already a God centered individual with a healthy sex ideal I would not recommend this app. It teaches sin. Bytes such as "pronouns matter" "what's intersectionality" "handling bias and discrimination" "curious about gender identities" "being an ally" to the LGBTQ community,"coming out" etc. I personally shield my child from these topics so they aren't tempted to live an unhealthy lifestyle not ordained or blessed by God.

### 5/5 — Convenient & Real

*2023-07-30*

I really appreciate the realness in this app. They don’t sugarcoat life’s challenges and the content and coaching provide tangible and helpful ways to cope better.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for this review! We're so happy to hear that both the content and coaching have been helpful to you!

### 5/5 — Best mental health app!

*2023-06-08*

Wave is a great all-in-one mental health app! They offer customizable coaching sessions, free mental health tools, and daily wellness check-ins. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an easy, affordable mental health support resource!

**Developer response:** Thank you Courtney! We're so pleased to hear that you've found all of these features useful.

### 5/5 — Actionable Content

*2023-05-30*

Really enjoy the actionable content. I’ve also never used an app that helps you better understand your emotional focus areas “grows” and then gives recommendations to help you build skills in those areas.

**Developer response:** Thank you Bradley! We're so pleased that you've found the content actionable in your life!

### 1/5 — Wouldn’t recommend to anyone

*2022-12-09*

.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Since your review a couple of years ago, we've significantly expanded our app and offerings. If you have time, we'd love for you to check it out and let us know what you think. We're very open to feedback on how to improve. Thanks so much!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.57 — 2026-08-06

We've made partner and employer sign-ups smoother with clearer screens, fewer questions, and no more being asked to schedule a session you've already booked.

We also fixed a few bugs: sharing works again on iOS 26, the insurance card photo button no longer fails if you tap it right away, and the home screen handles loading problems gracefully instead of crashing or going blank.

### 2.56 — 2025-12-23

This update improves onboarding, messaging, and overall app stability with clearer guidance for first-time users, a refreshed chat-style inbox, and more intuitive empty states across key sections. We fixed several onboarding and insurance recognition issues, reduced cases where users could hit blank or error screens, and improved copy and walkthrough flows to better match expected actions. Messaging now includes clearer links to the SOS section when you’re out of office or starting a new thread, while background reliability and performance have been strengthened through improved error handling, testing, and behind-the-scenes fixes.

### 2.55 — 2025-12-02

This update brings a wide range of improvements focused on a smoother, faster, and more polished experience across the app. You’ll see cleaner animations and transitions, a more responsive home screen with better scrolling and larger, clearer content cards, and improved loading states throughout scheduling and coaching flows. Messaging gets notable upgrades including better formatting, improved speech-to-text behavior, and markdown support. Bytes and recommendations load faster thanks to expanded caching and preloading, and completion moments now feel more rewarding with updated animations. The profile section now lets you add or update insurance details and view past invoices, and the sessions tab offers clearer guidance when you have no upcoming meetings. The app also introduces full dark mode support, more consistent UI behavior across modals and cards, and multiple fixes to ensure interactions like forms, dictation, and sharing work as expected.

### 2.53 — 2025-08-07

This release introduces a smoother end-of-byte experience. We've introduced new animations, sound effects, and haptic feedback to make progress feel more rewarding. Additionally, you can now dislike a piece of content directly from the My Program home card, helping us better tailor your experience.

### 2.52 — 2025-06-26

This release introduces the all-new mini skill byte experience—a faster, more interactive way to learn.
