### 4/5 — Amazing book

*2015-08-03*

The story is great and interesting. I would give it 5 stars if they add GC achievements

### 4/5 — Buying number 2 now

*2015-04-08, version 1.4.0*

Most of these games either don't actually have choice with them all ending in the same place or are too short
This avoids both of those short comings and I've played through this first one multiple times already

### 5/5 — 15 out of 10 stars!

*2015-02-26*

Luv this game! I'm a huge mmorpg gamer and I luv books. I couldn't stop reading! So many choices and so many great possibilities. Can't wait 4 the 3rd and final book.

### 5/5 — Great time!

*2015-01-29*

Did a star fall or did five? :T
I know I fell in love with this novel!

### 5/5 — Great

*2015-01-22, version 1.4.0*

loved the game, I though it was really well written and look forward to reading the next ones

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2015-01-17*

I love this game it is by far my favorite choice of games game. The only problem I encountered, and mind your it is a minor problem, is that I can't figure out how to not die. However this is only a problem for three of the twelve ways. Anyways it is an amazing game.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2014-12-27, version 1.3.2*

I'm not a frequent reader but...I love this story!

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2014-10-25, version 1.3.2*

I adored this! Such amazing characters and scenarios. Good replayability too.

### 4/5 — Good story and world-building, frustrating presentation

*2014-08-25, version 1.3.2*

The plot of this interactive "choose-your-own-adventure" novel is complex and intriguing. While the magic school setting is a little reminiscent of Harry Potter, the world-building is extremely inventive and detailed, which made for a very immersive experience. There's also some very nice orginal artwork.

One issue is that there are points at which your character faces perilous situations, and can die (although you can be reborn, with a resultant statistics penalty), but the game doesn't give you adequate warning when these situations are coming, or what statistics are needed to pass them. I tried several times, first trying every choice presented in these scenes, then replaying the game to build different statistics. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to figure out how to get an outcome other than death, and so I had to start over and make choices to avoid these situations entirely.

Another drawback is that there's no "back button" to undo choices you've made. There's only the option to restart from the beginning.

### 5/5 — I couldn't take my eyes off the screen!

*2014-07-22, version 1.3.2*

This was a very unique story that I ever read, I love the characters and the many options I can choose from. I may even start reading it again by choosing a different path but for now I am going to continue reading on to Way Walkers 2!

### 5/5 — A work of art

*2014-06-04, version 1.3.2*

I have read many "choose your own adventure" books, and this is by far one of the greatest I have ever read. J .Leigh has developed an engrossing universe that is reminiscent of a time when gods embodied facets of the human persona, making the mythology even more relatable then I had expected. However, even within this very magical universe, there still exists a very coherent sense of humanity, with both it's strengths and flaws drawn out for all to see. Mechanically, the ability to flesh out ones own protagonist (or antagonist, if that's your style) is well made and flows perfectly well with the story. I only hope we get to see Part 3 soon enough. :) Great read, and I recommend it to all fantasy readers out there!

### 4/5 — Great game.

*2014-05-23, version 1.3.2*

This really is a great game with great choices. I love both parts of the story and I cannot wait until the next part. I do have a question for those that have played the game. At the beginning of the second part it gives you the option to play as already made people that have already gone through the first part. One of the characters discovered a secret about someone when they tried out for the newspaper. I went through the first part a few more times to try to find out what that secret was and I could not find out what that secret was no matter what I did. Does anyone know what that secret is? I think the girls name was Genoa. This really is a great game and I can't wait for more.

### 5/5 — I really enjoy this game, genuinely

*2014-05-08*

I finally decided to put a review on this CoG to show my appreciation to the author. I'll start by saying that the many paths you can take to shape your character and his/her relationships and abilities are pretty well thought out, and the fact that with your choice comes actual change to the story in major way or just subtly in dialog or events, this is probably the best CoG game ever, part 1 and part 2 combined set the bar really high for other games in my opinion and seeing that part 1 alone set the bar high already you can just tell that when part 2 came out the bar was set even higher than before. Thank you for putting out both stories and thank you for the message at the end, I really appreciate it. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2014-05-04, version 1.3.2*

This is one of the best CoG games I've played in a long time. I love the fact that you aren't OP either, you progress slowly with each choice and I love that. Inthe beginning, I'm not going to lie, I was a little suspicious about the story and if it was going to be dreary and have oh so many plot holes, but it doesn't. There is so much depth and there are many twists and turns and a lot of small detail, but it's beautiful. So overall, I'd definitely say it's worth your money.

### 5/5 — Best COG game ever.

*2014-05-02, version 1.3.2*

Amazing storyline that anyone can easily get absorbed in; extremely well thought out!! I absolutely love this story!!!

### 5/5 — Beautiful COG. Amazing.

*2014-04-26, version 1.3.2*

I love the game. Obviously. It's written pretty well. Interesting story. Very memorable. But I think there needs to be an option to make a character that isn't human. Like tazu or ki'ra seems fun. I know it would be a huge update but it would make for more choices and make it more interesting. Only complaint is you have to be human.. Maybe change it for this series. Or maybe the next series you write either way. Would be awesome

### 5/5 — To unpredictable in begging

*2014-03-18, version 1.3.2*

this game is really unpredictable in the beginning for example your set of skills that lets you make Pacific choices want to make in the later in the game really depends on the choices you make in the beginning but it's really hard to get a good start and I say this because I play this games multiple times and it really hard to get it the same as it was before but otherwise very fun game definitely worth your time and money

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2014-02-16, version 1.3.2*

I absolutely loved the game. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who remotely likes fantasy

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Warning: after years and years, series not finished

*2018-07-22*

In a recent update the author said they had written 50k words in the third book. That’s (if i’m counting correctly) over 3 years after the second book came out. Author keeps ‘taking breaks’ and making excuses. Don’t buy this unless your willing to never play the full story, or at the least wait a very long time for a conclusion. If you want to play this series wait for all the books to come out. Its a good story and has excellent writing, but i’m starting to doubt if it will ever be complete.

### 1/5 — Update broke it...

*2013-10-13, version 1.2*

All the slides are messed up, the stats are all wrong...

### 1/5 — Bug

*2013-08-21, version 1.1*

I can't scroll, and part of the text is off screen. Fix this immediately

### 1/5 — Please Fix!!

*2013-07-11, version 1.1*

Would love to play this, but the screen doesn't allow you to scroll down to make choices and the text is too far to the right that you cannot read full sentences but have to guess what the missing word might be. I have not been able to make it past the second page. Please fix this as I would love to make a start on this game.

### 1/5 — Can't even play this on iPad!

*2013-03-23, version 1.1*

Terrible, game comes on but all the words aren't even shown. Won't let me scroll down the page for me to select continue and I've paid for this! Needs sorting - and there's nothing wrong with my iPad, all my other COGs work perfectly.

### 2/5 — Broken

*2013-10-11, version 1.2*

It was good before the update but now it skips around at the begging of the story and then forces me to be a girl.

### 2/5 — Seems Good, But

*2013-07-15, version 1.1*

My IPad has trouble showing the whole page, and I cannot scroll down. The page is to the right more, and I cannot chose the next button after the first page. It seems like such a good game and I love the other games like this, but until this problem is solved I will have to not rate this well. And I was looking forward to this game to!

### 3/5 — Be wary - Author hasn't updated in years

*2019-08-24*

I keep updated and it looks like she's not going to finish this series any time soon. Purchase at the risk knowing the story may never be complete.

Anyway, cool world and characters. The writing is a bit too flowery, and the story throws in-world terms in your face, making it difficult to follow.

### 3/5 — Good but...

*2013-10-16, version 1.2*

Love all the cog games but this one falls on its face a lot. Story is amazing like most of the games but this one mixes a lot of things up. First 4 selections reappear later in game but doesn't look to matter what you choose the first round. Then the game screws up when you pick a gender for your character I pick male since I'm a guy but most of the time the game still calls me Ms. Instead of Mr. Also some of the other characters would be called he in one part of a sentence and called she later in the same sentence. Please fix all this and it will be an amazing game like the rest of your games!

### 3/5 — So good but what happened!

*2013-10-14, version 1.2*

This is one of my favourite games on the App Store, full stop. But after some update it always seems to think I'm female, not to mention it gives me three completely random pages from the story before the beginning when I restart. Frankly it's really off putting, and though I've tried everything I can fix it :( I really hope this gets sorted so I can play my favourite text adventure again and give it the five stars it deserves.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Lovely cast—rewards you for your time

*2018-10-01*

I can’t wait for the author to finish this trilogy! The first of many interactive fiction games I’ve played through the App Store—and still the best. The only time I’ve actually felt an actual, non-manipulative attachment to characters. (As in not messing around with choices for the sake of them liking the MC or getting an achievement). Lots of characterization choice-and-consequence, if that’s your thing. Only troubling thing is this monstrous hiatus.

### 5/5 — A must-play for fantasy fans!

*2018-01-11*

First, I’d just like to say that most of this review is copy/pasted from my Way Walkers 2 review with some minor changes, so App Store or whoever reviews these, I swear I’m not a bot, don’t delete this please. So here we go.

I’ve played a lot of these interactive text-based games and this is easily one of the best. From the story to the writing to the characters to the sheer amount of choices! This game, in my opinion, is masterfully written and a must-play for anyone a fan of fantasy and text-based RPGs. The one gripe I have with it is that I wish there was an option to choose your own race instead of the game automatically assigning you Human.

### 5/5 — You'll Love It!

*2017-02-15*

Even though I literally bought this just an hour ago, I'm already in love.

Out of all the COG and HG, I think Way Walkers is my favorite, and I'm not even halfway through.

The characters - THE CHARACTERS
Literally of all the interactive novels I've bought, and I've bought too many, I think Way Walkers has the best fleshed out characters of them all.

As a visual girl and reader, I can actually get a great read on these characters; see their faces and hear their voices as I read.

If you're a fan of Harry Potter, I think you'll love this book! After a few minutes of reading, I just got this Harry Potter vibe and it reminded me of the first book series I had ever been connected to. So, personally, I think you'll love this story. :)

### 5/5 — Best Game Here

*2016-11-12*

While I was worried that this would be some unoriginal and only slightly interesting ripoff of Harry Potter, it was much more than that.

Whatever you choose actually feels impactful, and I finally feel like I'm actually 'living out' a story. Sequel gets the same, can't wait for the third part.

### 5/5 — Interesting characters, setting, and lore

*2016-08-20*

A very good game! The characters make you care about the story, and the diverse, interesting world keeps you interested. High replay value and diverse choices. Well worth the money.

### 5/5 — Amazing! 5 Stars

*2016-07-12*

the story is amazing and its so attaching i read for hours, enjoyed it so much i had to buy the second one.

### 5/5 — Very Fun

*2015-12-24*

I was a bit hesitant at first to get this game, but I'm glad I did. Admittedly, the beginning is a little slow, but once you get past that part the game is incredibly fun. I've played a VERY large amount of interactive story games like this before, and this is definitely one of my favorites.

### 5/5 — I'd rather attend Tri-citadel over Hogwarts.

*2015-12-16*

I can't say enough praise for this interactive novel! The world feels wholly realized (pun intended) and the characters are interesting and have in-depth personalities. I was left caring about each one of them and truly wanting to find out more about the extensive fantasy/supernatural world the story takes place in. The way the story deals with concepts like angels/demons, the afterlife, reincarnation and psychic abilities was pure joy.

The writing and story was so well done that I felt like I was actually there sharing in the triumphs and tragedies that took place. The choices were extremely well-thought out, so well in fact that I wanted my first play-thru to feel as perfect to my liking as possible so I restarted the game 7 times to fix what I felt was an "incorrect" choice for my character. There are no good or bad choices, of course, and I love that this game uses that in it's narrative.

This story has risen to my #1 favorite game from CoG & HG. It's definitely worth the purchase and the wait until the 3rd one comes out. In the meantime, I'm buying the book!

### 5/5 — Simply. Amazing.

*2015-03-24*

I've never played a CoG that had this much work and detail put into it. The choices are extremely varied and every choice you make matters, the characters are very well-made and original. I love everything about this game! It ends in a major cliffhanger, though, and you have to get another game to finish it.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2015-03-02*

I have been enjoying these kinda of games for years, and this is one of the good ones.
