Use it in so many ways from labeling leftovers in the freezer to labeling clothes items that can go in the washer and dryer. Even label your credit card for easy find at the store. Can even label the credit card so no one can hear your account number and expiration date. All I get now when I launch it is a blank screen. All the money I spent on the tags has been wasted. This should be stated before the user downloads the app. Not usable for me. ### 1/5 — Mislead *2019-01-13* I thought this read with the camera. I want the camera to say words out loud. The menu at the restaurant is too small to read. I’d like to hear it. I’d love it translated. The slide show in the description didn’t show the external tag this thing requires. Please email us at connect@wayaround.org so we can get those to you. ### 1/5 — Won’t work on my iphone 6s *2019-01-09* It would be nice to know in advance that this will not work on iphones older than iphone 7. I have an iphone 6s and was told I need to buy a WayLink Scanner for nearly $100 just to use the app. Nope, not going to happen. **Developer response:** Hi BijouMama2011, We think it's a bummer, too, that the iPhone 6s has an NFC reader, but Apple won't allow developers like us to access it. The WayLink scanner is our workaround so that those with older iPhones can still use the app. Sorry that wasn't clear from the get-go. We appreciate you pointing that out, and we'll clarify in the app description. To make this right, we'd like to send you a WayLink and some WayTags so you can try out the app. Please email us at connect@wayaround.com to let us know where to send those. ### 3/5 — Very nice, but needs important fixes *2026-05-23* I love using waytags—very fast and convenient. The app usually works pretty well, although I wish they would make the date pickers more accessibility friendly. Maybe with separate month, day, year selectors, instead of the large calendar view that doesn’t even open if you tap on a date. The biggest problem though, is the Waycloud syncing. When you first open the app, it takes between 20 45 seconds to connect to their cloud. The app doesn’t bother to beep or otherwise indicate that it is not connected, or let you know when it has connected, you just have to keep checking the graphical indicator Manually (if you are using the screen reader, as most people are, you can’t just glance at it until it changes). The issue with this, is that if you scan a tag, especially if you create a new tag, before it has connected, The contents of that tag may change after it reaches out to the cloud. So through trial and error, and having several tags that I know were correct originally, become incorrect later, I have learned that the only way for the app to be reliable is to wait until it has the cloud connection. So it would be much more useful if they would block out app usage until the cloud is connected, or at least give you some audible indicator that they are trying to connect to the cloud and you’ll just have to be patient until they do. Otherwise the app becomes unreliable and Even the opposite of useful, because tags get erroneous information. ### 3/5 — Great accessibility tool at an unreasonable price *2024-06-04, version 4.5.1* I have used the WayAround app with way tags to test the technology and although I’ve been on the fence about buying some for myself, the hold back has always been the steep price of their tags. NFC technology is some of the simplest, and cheapest technology out there. All it needs is a basic app that is able to use the tech already within phones in order to read them. WayArounds app is decent, it has no bells or whistles though and still to this day there is no way for individuals to make tag information publicly accessible. The one thing that sets it apart is that it is fully accessible but the app hasn’t had any major updates and wouldn’t require a heck of a lot of maintenance. In my mind, there’s nothing that justifies to me why their tags are so outrageously overpriced. So I haven’t purchased them myself. What I did try and do though was to buy some cheap nfc tags to see if the app would read them. Although the tags did scan (of course they would because their nfc), the app was clearly programmed to only accept their tags and just produced an error. This is unfortunate considering most other nfc reading apps on the market are free and work with most all nfc tags. I’m quite sick of my quality of life and independence being held within the tight grasp of capitalist company’s who will only give it up at high high cost. I don’t see why this company couldn’t have created an option whereby If people wanted to use their own tags, than they buy the app instead, except that doesn’t fit within a capitalist mindset of continuing to make more and more money off of people. People who unfortunately have some of the lowest employment and income rates. If you use our lives, experiences and existence as your companies selling tactics but then fail to consider our needs and make your technology financially inaccessible to us, you are simply just using us for profit. Also, for convenience, it needs to work with the Apple watch. ### 4/5 — Solutions to actual problems *2019-01-24* This app has a learning curve. Just like when a visually impaired person first starts to use talk back or voiceover, this app requires one to learn what it’s all about. Once you understand that it is a smart labeling system and you explore the website or talk to anyone representing the company, you realize how life-changing it can be. Think about all of the equipment we need for labeling, thousands of dollars later you may have a bunch of braille labels or a QR code reader that isn’t permanent. Plus we can’t edit the Braille once applied. These versatile small tags work with iPhones and androids and are only about a dollar apiece. If you want to scan quickly or you have an older phone you simply need to get the way link scanner. At $100 it’s the most expensive thing in the store. However, I can’t buy any other labeling device with $100 at all. You can pretty much label anything and everything that you can think of and once you understand how the near field communication Technology works, this can become an invaluable tool for those with vision loss, caretakers, or frankly anyone who doesn’t want to painstakingly write out all the ingredients in a package, all the seasonings in a closet, or all the canned goods. Also this doesn’t require the camera, most of the apps that do work with OCR are already there. Wayaround is tackling something different. It’s not just about getting around with a GPS or reading print. Those things are already being done. Wayaround is a completely individualized way to tag anything you might need with as much information as you want and you can edit it and reuse them. I encourage everyone to check out the website and videos and if you’re confused at all email the staff. I love to garden but trying to remember what where and when and also when to harvest is very difficult. I attach them to garden picks and put all info on the tags. I also love to use them on my clothes to tell me what that piece of clothing is and what to wear it with. With the newest update I just click read and all info is read to me without voiceover on. I also have more than 30 assorted color chef coats and WayAround buttons allow me to quickly and easily select the one I am looking for independently. I like the system of tagging so much that one is included in the first Blind Kitchen Collection. I want people to know how much easier their lives could be if they decided to use the WayAroundsystem. This is an amazing concept but it can use some updates to make it even more amazing. Customer service is fantastic. Darwin helped me through the process of using the product and provided exceptional service. Again, the app can use some changes to make it even better but I’m pleased for now. Highly recommend for any user. ### 5/5 — The Way Around system is THE BEST for blind/VI users *2021-04-14* after trying several methods to label clothing, pantry, fridge/freezer and household items, I found the Way Around System to be THE BEST. it consists of your iPhone, the Way Around app, and a variety of adhesive labels, clips and buttons to choose from. simple and intuitive. There are Manny YouTube videos that explain Waze to use the products and step-by-step instruction on using the app. The Way Around Team (including sales, marketing/development and technical Support) get the highest marks for fantastic customer service, prompt, helpful and considerate. I suggest starting off by buying a "sample pack" which includes one of each of the tags/labels/clips/buttons, and you can test them out and decide what will work best for you. Personally, I use mostly the oval hole buttons, which I affix to my clothes using 1.5 inch safety pins; these buttons are machine washable, so it makes laundry sorting a breeze. I also use the oval hole buttons with a rubber band on foods in the fridge, freezer & pantry. I am also discovering many ways to use the adhesive labels and magnetic tags, too. I also purchased a Way Link Device, which helps scan through items a bit faster. The app is 100% accessible with voiceover. The app is easy to use; you can choose to just add a description of the item you are tagging, or drill down the layers to add detailed description of clothing care, purchase date,URL, etc. ### 5/5 — Excellent service & tech *2020-12-16* I have been doing business with this company for 2 years and the people behind the products go above & beyond to get me using it correctly and has wonderful customer service. I love to cook and have cooked for 40 years plus. I have organized my kitchen including my pantry, freezer and cupboards :-) these tags make it so simple to identify the products I need without having to ask someone else. I am a very independent person and very self-sufficient. With the way around life is so much simpler :-) thank you so much for your wonderful product you have been a godsend!
