## What is Waymark?

Every hike has a story — the early start, the weather that turned, the view that made it worth it. Waymark keeps them.

Waymark is a hiking journal for iPhone. It gathers your hikes into one timeline. It’s your journal, not a fitness leaderboard.

ALL THINGS OUTDOORS

Waymark collects and combines all aspects of your hike.

- The basics: Title and location ground your entries and keep them searchable.
- Key stats: See distance, elevation gain, duration, and key vitals at a glance.
- Route and elevation profile: Relive your hike with interactive maps and charts. Check out your speed and rest spots, the trail’s elevation profile, or your vitals at the toughest push.
- Your photos: Check out photos you took on the hike. Your best shots are highlighted; you can also lay them out on the map.
- The journal part: Bookmark your entries, or rate them 1 to 5 stars. Add text notes of things worth remembering. The hike’s weather appears automatically for added context.

BRING IN EVERY HIKE

Waymark has tight integration with Apple Health. You can import workouts recorded with Apple Watch or other apps, with route, heart rate, and energy along for the ride.

Use other apps? You can import hikes with open-format GPX tracks or routes, or with Garmin™ FIT files.

Hiked without recording anything? No problem — you can add an entry manually with custom location, distance, and elevation metrics.

LIFETIME AND YEARLY STATISTICS

See your days outdoors in review, with key moments highlighted on the trail: your highest elevation reached, longest distance covered, or the most elevation gained in a day.

MULTI-DAY HIKES, GROUPED

Group multiple hikes into the same trip, perfect for that multi-day backcountry camping trip.

A grouped trip shows combined stats and routes, tallying the distance and total elevation gained. Photos you took in between hikes at the campsite are also included and displayed.

WORTH SHOWING OFF

Share your hike with one tap, using beautiful designs created for the social network app of your choice.

Your card can include a photo or a map, as well as key stats from the trail.

UNLOCK PREMIUM INSIGHTS

Build your complete outdoor history with Waymark Premium — not just the last 12 months.

You can also unlock key insights of your hikes: Check out the elevation profile, or lay out your photos on the map. Heart-rate zones overlaid on the map show how much effort you put in, and surface the hardest push on the trail.

Hike the same trail over and over again? Premium insights put the same trail on a personal leaderboard so you can have a friendly competition with yourself.

Your unlocked entries stay unlocked, even after you stop subscribing — it’s only fair.

POLISHED, AND ON YOUR SIDE

Waymark is made by an avid hiker just like you. So it’s opinionated:

- Private by design: We don’t ask you to sign up for an account, and your data lives in your private iCloud account.
- Works offline: You can open your entries in the backcountry, jot down your thoughts, and check out your route and photos. The next time you connect to the internet, geocoding and iCloud sync pick up where they left off.
- Idiomatic design: Waymark has a personality, but the design feels at home on your iPhone.
- Localized: The app is localized into a dozen languages, and respects local conventions of measurement units, date formats, and alternative calendars.
- Accessible: The app is optimized for VoiceOver and Dynamic Type. A lamplight palette preserves the warmth in Dark Mode.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-09-05

Hi there! Waymark 1.4 brings a round of improvements to the app.

◎ New languages

Waymark now speaks Danish, Dutch, Norwegian Bokmål, and Swedish.

◎ Share cards

New size: a 2:3 aspect ratio joins the options, by popular request.

Transparent cards: the Map and Minimal templates can save with a transparent background — perfect for overlaying your route and stats in, say, Instagram Stories.

Pick your elements: choose what shows on the card, down to each key metric.

Polished animations: composing a card feels smoother and more joyous.

◎ Other improvements

Personal stats: the bar chart is easier to read, and each bar subtly hints at the hikes that make up its month or year.

Offline import: a batch workout import with no network connection is no longer held up by a Maps message shown in error.

Thank you, and hope you’ll enjoy the update! Please let us know about any questions or feedback.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-29

Hi there! Waymark 1.3 is here with new features and refinements.

◎ New features

Highlights: standout hikes — the highest point, the biggest climb, the longest distance — become keepsake cards, for each year and for your whole journal.

Stats by year: personal stats can show a single year or your entire lifetime, stepping between years one at a time.

◎ Improvements

Photo picks: analysis results are now remembered, so each photo is scored once ever, and picks appear faster.

Offline entries: photos still display without an internet connection, and an entry saved offline gets its location looked up the next time the device is online.

Smoother maps: pinch-zooming the full-screen map stays smooth, even on long routes.

Trip maps: each leg draws in its own color with a numbered start pin. Tapping a pin zooms in on that leg.

Workout import: a batch run can also hide workouts, and Hide now lives in each row’s menu.

VoiceOver: stats, buttons, and controls across the app now describe themselves more clearly.

◎ Bug fixes

* Opening the full-screen map could show the Photos permission prompt uninvited. Fixed: a Show Photos button asks first.
* The photo highlights grid could lay out unevenly. Fixed.
* Very long names crowded the cards on the timeline. Fixed: titles keep to two lines.
* With the device set to the Japanese or Buddhist calendar, heart-rate zone settings could crash and yearly stats could show the wrong years. Fixed: years now follow your calendar throughout.

Hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please feel free to reach out for questions and feedback.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-25

Hi there! Waymark 1.2 is here with new features and refinements.

◎ New features

Personal stats: View your hikes, distance, and elevation on an interactive chart, by month or by year.

Weather: every entry now shows the conditions and temperature range from the day it was recorded.

GPX export: a hike’s route can be shared as a GPX file, for a friend or a navigation app.

◎ Improvements

Photo highlights: the photo grid can show just the best photos, with standout shots enlarged.

Editable details: distance and elevation gain can be adjusted on any entry.

Elevation accuracy: faulty altitude readings are repaired, and elevation charts stay steady on flat routes.

Elevation profile colors: the map and chart adopt a more prominent set of colors for local grades. This helps you surface steep sections more easily.

Share cards: title, location, and date details are edited from a single menu.

◎ Bug fixes

* Fixed some issues with localization in English for the US, the UK and Australia.
* Fixed an issue where the user could not import workouts in a batch despite there being multiple fresh workouts in the past 30 days.
* Fixed an issue with a missing “Done” button on the “What’s New” page.

Hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please feel free to reach out for questions and feedback.
