### 2/5 — Looks like app has been neglected

*2023-08-12*

It works. I can click the button and the door opens. But Alexa integration simply does not work. Ever. Worse, all of the help links and support links are broken / dead ends.

### 4/5 — Love the device/Alexa stopped working

*2022-10-08, version 3.80.0*

The device itself has been very helpful as I work 3 jobs at varying times of the day and being able to let my dog out anytime is a lifesaver.

A downside for me, though not a big one, is the fact that my slider is in a very busy location to start with and my dog likes to sit in front of the slider without going outside, so the motion detection was SO incredibly sensitive that I had to turn it off completely and rely solely on opening/closing it “manually” (aka with Alexa or the app). With it on, it would open for every little thing—throwing something away, putting something on the dining table, and yes my dog, which is great when she actually wants to go outside, but when she doesn’t, she’ll stick her nose just past the door and with the safety feature enabled, my slider would stay open for sometimes extended periods of time until I noticed and closed it with Alexa/in the app.

I took off a star, not because my dog is a pain in the butt and the device works as advertised, but because after the most recent update, the Alexa integration has completely stopped working. My Alexa device hears my voice and recognizes the commands, it even chirps in confirmation, but the Wayzn device doesn’t respond and I’m left with having to go into the app and close it there. The Alexa integration was a big draw for me, so hopefully they get it fixed. Until then I can still open/close my slider with the app.

### 3/5 — Needs more- early adopter

*2022-03-06, version 3.79.0*

I’ve had this for over a year I believe, was one of the first to get it when it came out. I thought it would be amazing and solve so many headaches for me. Troublesome setup as my door I guess is slightly heavier than what it likes. Ended up not using it, just decided today to give it another try .Great idea, needs more power torque to open slightly heavier doors. Would be great if it could open a little bit faster.

### 1/5 — Alexa

*2021-12-25, version 3.78*

The keyboard with version 3.78 still does not show up when adding Alexa connected device on iPhone 12.

### 1/5 — App is really the weak link

*2021-10-30, version 3.77*

The actual door device works well but the app does not. I have motion detection turned off on both home and away modes in an attempt to try to prevent the door from detecting motion EVERY time I close it. I also reduced the sensitivity all the way to the lowest point. It still detects motion and stops every time and once it does, it won’t close until I go get my phone, open the app, wait for it to connect, and then press the button to close the door. Extremely annoying and basically makes it unusable. It worked fine before the last update. Bottom line is that it should not detect motion if I have it disabled in the app. That’s the point of even having that option. This was an expensive device and is a great idea, but I regret purchasing it and will just uninstall it until/unless those issues get fixed.

### 1/5 — Major flaw.

*2021-10-16, version 3.77*

I want to start by saying I love this product. It works as intended. The major flaw is that we have lost power twice in a couple months BOTH times we have come home to our door being opened for extended periods of time. The app still shows the door in the closed. The only way I can get the door to close is by recalibrating it. I will gladly change my rating to a 4 star if this issue is addresssed and a 5 star if you can integrate Eufy pet cameras into the app

### 1/5 — Don’t buy yet!!!

*2021-09-14, version 3.76*

They have a ways to go to make this a big time product. If I would have known how terrible the app is and how loud the door was I would have never invested in the product. The app crashes on my phone and makes my phone unusable for a 30 min period. I try to turn off my phone and end up calling 911 because of it. It also doesn’t always notify me when my door is open because some how there is an obstruction when there isn’t one so my door stays open. I have to change the motion settings then change the motion settings back to make it work again. Great idea on paper but seems to be more of a headache then convenience.

### 2/5 — Could be way better

*2021-08-18, version 3.75*

The operation is straight forward and works great but with today’s technology this software APP should be more advanced and provide more options.

A schedule for example.
This after all was designed for folks like me who while on vacation want to let the dog out during the day and have it close at might which is perfect. I don’t want our dog to open up the door automatically during the night in fear she’ll get sprayed by a skunk or fight off a Raccoon.
What if the place where I’m vacationing at doesn’t have good reception or WiFi? How do I open the door? How do do I close the door? This actually happened while vacationing in Yosemite.
A schedule I can set on a calendar like every other pet app has would have came in handy.

A wider door opening option.
While I’m at home I’d like to door to open so I can pass through. The device or actuator retracts far enough back to allow this why wouldn’t you allow it?
What if this was the only entry and I needed someone to enter? They wouldn’t be able to without forcing the door open and possibly damaging the actuator.
Of course while I’m away I’d like to choose and have control of this option.

There are plenty of software developers out there that improve this APP and you’ll probably end up selling more too.

You are welcome to the upgrade ideal.

### 2/5 — Needs notifications, and ability to integrate with home automation

*2021-08-06, version 3.75*

When my app is closed I want to know that even in Home mode the door was opened. Since company still hasn’t delivered a way to automatically let dog back in, I need to watch camera at all times, as my dog may step outside without me being able to get a notification as expected.

The device could be much better with better software/app and with integration into Siri for voice commands so I don’t have to pull out my phone to open the door. Like how Tesla owners can tell Siri to open their Frunk rather than fumble through their pocket and open the app. I especially want home assistant control, I could automate the door to open in the morning automatically so my dog is able to step out and go pee, I could use a button that my dog has to press outside for him to come back in, I could automate turning on my deck lights when the door opens so he can see. If this was accomplished other solutions like a dog proximity tag would be unnecessary as I could integrate any other hardware to accomplish the same.

I also want to be able to adjust the opening amount and duration before it closes. Mine opens much wider than needed for my dog. I want to have motion detect open just enough for my dog, but then have a button I can press to open all the way so I can step through the door.

Also when first engaging the system it doesn’t detect obstructions and pinned my dog in the door, which was quite unpleasant.

I am very interested, but lack of communication from the company and inability to follow timelines for essential features makes me disappointed a bit with paying $600 for the product.

### 4/5 — Rome wasn’t built in a day

*2021-07-15, version 3.75*

I just got my Wayzn today and got it hooked up. I got stuck on the choose right side or left side like some have said. Hit the back and try it again. Worked for me. The rest of the installation was a breeze.

Two things I wish were better. I can tilt the Wayzn up and open the door all the way, but it’d be nice if the door opened up just a little more. I’m 6”3, 250lbs and can barely squeeze through.

The second thing is the motion sensing. I’m still trying to fine tune it all. I have a small dog and set as such with only a small area that should be activated. I’m sure I’ll get there or close to, but right now its either activated at everything or not for my 9lb Yorkie literally at the door.

The app works flawlessly to open/close the door. Paired with Alexa is cool too. Haven’t tried the Ring Camera thing yet, as I’m really looking forward to the RFID tags. Will be a great addition to this automated door and be the icing on top of the cake.

Overall 4 of 5 stars only because the main thing (motion sensing) is difficult to get down to picking up only what I want it to. Really looking forward to What this company does to improve the app and its product. Keep it up Wayzn team!

### 4/5 — Nice App but…

*2021-06-19, version 3.75*

Overall very useful app but there a few things that needs to be added. Time based programming for Home/Away mode or ability to change modes through Alexa is a must.

### 2/5 — Cool concept, poor execution

*2021-05-23, version 3.73*

I like this concept. Just wished it worked better. I’ve tried all variations of the motion sensor area inside and the sensitivity and it just doesn’t work consistently. I also tried setting up a routine with my Ring camera to let my dogs back in when the camera detected motion from the outside but that’s also very inconsistent. Hoping the upcoming collar tags will actually provide an accurate signal to the unit to open/close whether the dog is inside or outside.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Trash App and Customer Support help

*2026-05-18, version 4.84.0*

The features to work with Alexa don’t work and say they are unresponsive. It takes WAYZN customer support days to respond and they fully fully answer your questions and won’t schedule video help like they suggest. The product and app both are a rip off and you can’t get a full refund for the unresponsive product. Save your money buy another product that works and has better customer support

### 1/5 — So many things could be better

*2026-04-26, version 4.82.0*

This app has a lot of potential. Why not add simple notification options of when the door opens and closes. I’ve had this thing shut on my dog as he’s halfway enterer and it doesn’t stop. How does this mechanism not have a better pressure system of the LIGHTEST pressure to open back up. It still squeezes quite a bit before it pulls back. It should also have better motion detection on the outside of the door. It never really opens. My solution has been to leave the door open for 5 minutes so that my dog has plenty of time outside on our balcony before it closes. I don’t trust leaving this door on when we’re away for an hour..

### 1/5 — Why they ruin it?

*2026-02-23, version 4.64.0*

I have been using this product for years and most of the time it works great. Then they updated the app recently and everything went south. Now I am having issues with the app connecting to my Wayzn device or significant delays from I press the button in the app and it actually opening or closing. It has become very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Great product when it works

*2026-02-21, version 4.64.0*

I would say that the Wayzn door itself worked about 95% of the time the way we wanted it. The app updated over night and went completely whacky. Opening and closing for no reason and the app itself not working. Tried all of the troubleshooting on the website with no luck. You should really test your updates before pushing them out. Now I’m left with a several hundred dollar paper weight.

### 1/5 — App code must not be up to date with recent iOS/android releases

*2025-03-14, version 4.27.0*

I’ve had the Smart Pet door device for 2 years and the pet tag for 1 year. The smart tag stopped connecting to the app (multiple attempts to troubleshoot and reset, so I gave up and deleted the connected device). Still the app is “stuck” in connecting. I have made many attempts to troubleshoot (takes 5-10, minutes each time) and it is a 50/50 chance of solving.

### 1/5 — Latest update killed motion sensor opening

*2024-12-18, version 4.22.0*

Just when I have trained all my dogs on how to open the door by standing there, they update the app and it stops working completely. I emailed them but no one has responded. 12/24.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2024-10-24, version 4.16.0*

Way overpriced trash. RRely works. Dog tags don't work at all. Save your money. It should be criminal to even sell it.

### 1/5 — Needs matter support ASAP

*2024-03-09, version 3.83.0*

This has had support for Alexa since the beginning matter has been been around for over a year now and they still have not given support for it to work with Siri would love it to be automated so that way when I drive up my driveway, I’m not trying to go through the app on my phone while I’m driving and it automatically opens the door for me because it knows I’m coming home in a automation. Or be able to just use my voice and say open the sliding glass door and it does it.

### 1/5 — No matter or HomeKit support

*2024-02-20*

I supported this company when they were on Kickstarter before they even went live and I’ve emailed them multiple times about adding this support. I don’t know how hard it would be. I’m pretty sure it could just be done through a software update ? They keep on saying they’re focused on this pet tag. Now that you have, it works with pretty much all devices….. I just wish that they would update this so that way I could just use Siri to open my sliding glass door. I use that to go in and out of. I don’t even have any pets just an easy way to get in and out of my condo. Especially when I had a lot of stuff in my hand and I have my AirPods in all I would have to say is open the sliding glass door…..

### 1/5 — Probably one of the worst apps I’ve used in a long time

*2023-01-29, version 3.80.0*

I was thrilled by the concept of Wayzn - pet door with no permanent damage or expensive installs! However, this fell short due to the app. The “checking connection” error is one of the worst user experiences I’ve had in a long time, especially with a product this expensive. No matter how many times I tried each and every one of the troubleshooting steps, I was not able to ever get the device connected to my wifi. You spend ~$700 on a product and can’t even get the thing to simply connect to your network! I would have returned it but don’t want to swallow losing half of the cost so I’m holding out for a future update. But wow was this disappointing. The alleged 3 minute install quickly turned into 4 hours without any result other than frustration and disappointment.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the Product!

*2026-02-25, version 4.64.0*

This door is great and I love having it. Super helpful when you have dogs who want to go outside constantly. I do also agree with another reviewer that I wish it would open a bit wider. I do go out that door some and have to squeeze myself through. Can be glitchy at times but they typically get things resolved pretty quickly.

### 5/5 — App works great

*2025-11-19, version 4.59.0*

App works exactly as expected. The opening device has really worked well and given us flexibility in our lives with our beloved dogs. Highly recommend this invention and app.

### 5/5 — App feature suggest

*2022-10-09, version 3.80.0*

Love this app. Product is amazing and works well. What would be great is the ability to set a schedule for home and away feature. For example, set to Away between hours of 10pm-6am…. Please consider!

### 5/5 — App works great

### 5/5 — Great device!!

*2020-09-02, version 3.70*

App could use some work/leaves things to be desired. However it does what it is supposed to! The machine works great and customer service is top notch! I set up a call for support, they called me on time, found I had a defective unit, shipped me out a new one that arrive about a week later. New one works great! Easy to install and use.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2020-06-25, version 3.70*

This device is great. Worth every penny.

### 4/5 — App code must not be up to date with recent iOS/android releases

*2025-06-22, version 4.39.0*

Edited 6/22
After a few calls with support and firmware updates/modem resets/security updates, I am happy to announce the door is working now!!!

Family is happy and dog is happy — no more trips back from work to let the dog out…

### 4/5 — Better every day

*2024-12-06, version 4.22.0*

I see a lot of older reviews on here. We have had our Wayzn with pet tags for about 6 weeks. Our dog has Cushing’s disease, so he HAS to go out many, many times, day and night. All of the people in my house are gone all day and honestly, getting up to let him out several times a night makes it hard to get a good night’s sleep. We thought this was the perfect solution. It is not the perfect solution. HOWEVER, this very small, very new company is willing to help. We had many issues—the app. The last update has it working consistently and I’m so happy about that. I also had two Zoom calls with the developer. He was immensely helpful. We did several things to help the door and pet tags function so that our pup can get out on his own. I know that Wayzn continues to work on making it better every day. If you have one and haven’t discussed the issues you are having with someone from Wayzn, I encourage you to reach out.
Current positives:
* the door opens about 90% of the time using the pet tags
* the door opens 99% of the time on the motion setting
* opens and closes smoothly 100%
Current negatives and our work arounds:
* our patio door is in the living room and if our dog is laying within an unobstructed 10 feet of the door, it will open randomly on the pet tag setting; our work-around is to change the setting to motion as our dog only lays in the living room when we are in there too.
* The sensor would not pick up the pet tag when it was on the wall; our work-around is to install the sensor on the glass door
* The pet tag would not consistently open the door; our work-around is to have our dog wear both of the pet tags
Since we have done these things, our dog has been able to get out and in the house successfully every time while we were away at work. (We have a camera, so we can see when he goes out and comes back in.) During the night, it has worked well but since we are home, he still wakes us up before going out. #olddogoldhabits Hope this helps someone!

### 4/5 — Would benefit from shortcut support

*2024-11-27, version 4.22.0*

The app functions as intended, but given how simple the interface is, it would really benefit from the ability to add an iPhone shortcut to open the app, select my wayzn, and press the “open then close” button so I can use Siri to open the door
