If this feature is available, how to utilize it is not immediately apparent. Other than that, it looks good so far. I reserve the right to update this 3-star rating as the app evolves. ### 3/5 — Streaming issue? *2017-01-31, version 2.2.0* I love waking up to WDET everyday and this app is so great because you can set an alarm to wake you up, just like a morning alarm clock. However, the streaming is not as great. I have this app on my iPhone and iPad and there is a lot of breaking up - like the app has to keep buffering. It makes it so hard to listen to an entire sentence. If this could be fixed, this app works be 5 stars in my opinion. Thank you!! ### 2/5 — Loses connection *2015-05-21, version 1.2* I love WDET and try to listen from my phone (5s) but it's more frustrating than enjoyable. The app is always buffering and losing connection. I've reinstalled it a few times over the past year or so hoping that the app has been improved, but each time I'm disappointed and eventually give up and delete it again. ### 3/5 — Great programming, needs improvement. *2015-03-13, version 1.2* UPDATE to review below: On Demand completely unavailable on iPhone 4. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The app is pretty unstable (frequent crashing) and it seems to hog system resources leading to other app crashes. When iPhone is in use as a phone, app sometimes continues playing or stops altogether. When listening to On Demand, any stoppage requires going through the menu again and starting selection from the beginning. There is also no way to fast forward On Demand program, but you can rewind. (Is this in the design or a flaw?). If you do nothing else but listen to the app - flawless, but we all know this is far from how smartphones are used. It is a shame that these flaws exist when the programming is so good! ### 3/5 — Great content, poor streaming *2015-02-04, version 1.2* Unfortunately this app is constantly buffering. I can listen uninterrupted for about 30 seconds before it loses connection. It’s impossible to listen to anything on this app. ### 1/5 — Great Streaming Content - Horrible Technical Execution *2024-02-29, version 2.3.6* Frustratingly unstable. If you are on WiFi, you may have to listen to their promo multiple times - each of them interrupting the previous - before you get to the streaming content. It’s been like this for as long as I’ve downloaded it and it’s terrible. ### 1/5 — Almost unusable *2023-11-08* God help you if your phone switches router nodes. Cannot find current playlists for some shows at the time they are broadcast, or later. ### 2/5 — Flawed fundraising ads *2020-02-27, version 2.3.4* Whenever WDET is performing a fundraiser, programming on the app is interrupted nearly every minute with a fundraising plug. Often, the fundraising plug will repeat multiple times or multiple plugs will play in succession. It is very annoying and is a disincentive to contribute or use the app. ### 2/5 — I didn't want them to know I was listening to WDET *2015-08-18, version 2.0* App will reactivate after someone calls you either after you ignore or end the call as if you were just using the app. I noticed this happen multiple times. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great app! *2018-09-28, version 2.3.0* There have been some bugs in the past but the developer and the station have been responsive and gotten them fixed. Thank you! *2018-05-28, version 2.3.0* No more pledge interruptions every five minutes. ### 5/5 — The ONLY choice for news radio in Detroit! *2016-03-23, version 2.1.0* With the modern radio landscape being what it is, you'd be hard pressed to find a station in Michigan actually producing the same type of local content as WDET. I'm typically plugged into music, podcasts or NPR One but anytime I'm actually listening to live radio, WDET is my only choice. With the app, I never have to worry about missing any of their local interviews. In my mind, they're in a league of their own. ### 5/5 — Nice update! *2015-07-10, version 2.0* This is a great update! Their production standards are incredible and this app is another reflection of that. Exactly what I want, the way I want it. I also like the on-demand music feature; very clever (possible replacement of Pandora? ;) I'd like to see host profiles from WDET offered: names, pics, bios, links to their blogs and then keep it current with updates on them (especially Craig Fahle - because he is "the man"). Next, how about a "Detroit Art" module? a place to see pics from the area, the WDET office, events and maybe a way to submit pics (after they are vetted). Finally there should really be a "news" module specific to the city and then everything else (ie. MI, North Korea, Issues and the like).
