## What is WeatherAlarmApp?

No account required, no ads, no tracking: WeatherAlarm sends you push notifications the moment the National Weather Service issues a warning for your monitored locations. Whether it’s your home, your parents’ house, or your kid’s college town — you’ll know before the sirens go off.

Instant NWS Alerts
Tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, flood warnings, winter storm warnings, and more — delivered to your phone within minutes of NWS issuance. No delays, no missed alerts.

Enhanced Tornado Warnings
WeatherAlarm classifies tornado warnings by severity — Radar Indicated, Confirmed, Life-Threatening (PDS), and Tornado Emergency — so you know exactly how serious the threat is. If a warning escalates, you’ll get an updated notification.

5-Day Forecast with Risk Timeline
Tap any location to see a 5-day forecast with built-in risk indicators. See at a glance which days have SPC severe weather outlooks, freeze potential, flood risk, or high winds — before the warnings are even issued.

SPC Convective Outlooks
View Storm Prediction Center outlooks on an interactive map with Day 1-3 risk polygons. An “Upcoming Risks” section shows Day 4-8 severe weather probabilities so you can plan ahead.

Monitor the People You Care About
Add unlimited locations — home, family, friends, vacation spots. Each location gets its own alerts, forecast, and risk indicators. WARNING and WATCH badges make it easy to scan what’s active at a glance.

### 5/5 — Edit for 5 stars

*2026-08-18*

My past review was only 2 stars, but now I am changing my review because I was finally able to get in touch with the developer and he was very nice and helped me out. I am happy for the positive changes and am happy that I was able to find this app that gives me much information about the storm in my area and in areas where my friends and family live.

**Developer response:** After triaging, I was finally able to reproduce the issue on another device. Just deployed a change server-side. Can you force quit the app and please try again? Afterwards you should be able to change the preferences.

I am not sure why I am not getting your emails. I attempted to email the contact address from several accounts and it comes through. Nonetheless, you can also try me at jason@jasonborchardt.com.

Thanks for the feedback!

### 2/5 — Worked for severe weather, but issues update

*2026-07-18*

Update: the developer says that he didn’t receive my emails, however I double checked the email address and it is indeed correct. Also, the toggles to select which weather alerts I want are still greyed out with the message: Couldn’t load preferences. Toggling is paused until reconnect. However I have restated the app multiple times and they are still greyed out. Also there is one section in the about page where if you click on the top link, it goes to the weather.com api.

### 5/5 — Well-made app

*2026-04-27*

I've been on the hunt for an app that allows me to input my loved one's locations and receive notifications for this storm season, and this one takes the cake. It's UI is simple, relatively intuitive (if you're familiar with other weather apps), and my favorite part: is absolutely, completely free. Thank you for posting the link on the tornado Facebook group! This has been a game-changer for me 😁

### 5/5 — Simple, functional, it just works.

*2026-04-27*

I love the simplicity of this app and how it consistently functions. I love the fact that I don’t have to create another account with a user name and password I will most likely forget.

Thanks for creating this!!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.5 — 2026-08-24

Watch any storm again — from the past year.
Pick a day on the calendar and play it back. You get two hours of radar around whatever moment you scrub to, stepping through every sweep the radar actually took, with that day's warnings drawn right alongside it. However the weather went for someone you watch over, you can go back and see it.

Storm reports that keep themselves tidy
When severe weather passes near one of your people, the report of what happened is there whenever you come back to it — days later, still one tap away. Reports clear themselves after a couple of days, and you can swipe any of them away yourself.

Add an address exactly as you typed it
Rural addresses with long house numbers can be hard for a search box to place. Now there's a "use exactly what I typed" option underneath the results, and we look it up directly.

Per-person alert settings, easier to find
Tap any alert type in Settings to see which of your people it's switched on for, and change it for just one of them. Hurricane and air-quality alerts have the same per-person control.

Also in this update: clearer wording throughout the app, steadier storm markers on the alert map, and a pollen alert now opens that person's card when you tap it.

### 2.1.4 — 2026-08-18

You can now customize alerts per location!

### 2.1.3 — 2026-08-10

WATCH THE STORM THAT MATTERED — Open any storm report and press play. The radar replays the half hour around the moment the storm was closest to your loved one, so you can see for yourself what passed over them and what missed.

TEMPERATURE, WIND AND SMOKE — HOURS AHEAD — Future Radar now forecasts more than rain. Scrub forward through the day to see the heat, the wind, and any wildfire smoke heading toward the people you watch over.

ONE WARNING, EVERYONE IT COVERS — A single storm can be bearing down on one person while it moves away from another. Each of your loved ones now gets their own distance, timing and storm report — and every alert, notification and widget tap opens straight to the person it’s about.

MORE IN EVERY WARNING — Warnings now carry the forecaster’s own hail size, wind gust and tornado detection details, an estimate of when the storm should be past them, and a picture of the warned area with their location on it right in the notification.

FASTER RADAR NEAR MAJOR AIRPORTS — Where terminal Doppler radar is available, the picture refreshes about once a minute.

RICHER STORM REPORTS — After a warning ends, the report draws on radar-estimated hail size at their exact location, official weather-station wind readings, river gauges and spotter reports of damage nearby — and you can send the whole thing to family as a simple web page.

### 2.1.2 — 2026-07-24

More radar, from your local airport. WeatherAlarm now decodes Terminal Doppler Weather Radar — the radar systems at major airports — adding 45 sites nationwide, with the same reflectivity, velocity, and spectrum-width detail as the existing network.

Richer, more accurate storm reports. After a warning ends, your report can now show radar-estimated hail size right at their location, whether a nearby river is flooding, and specific spotter reports of damage — all grounded in real observations, never guesses. You can also turn on natural-language phrasing that runs entirely on your device.

Sharper smoke & air quality. Air-quality readings now blend real ground-monitor data with satellite smoke detection, so a hazy sky is never called clean.

Tidier map layers. The map's layer list now collapses into sections, so you can expand only the ones you care about.

Plus accuracy and reliability improvements across storm tracking, notifications, and the map.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-07-16

The whole arc of a storm — before it forms, while it's happening, and after it passes — for the people you love.

• Post-Storm Report now includes an official wind reading from the nearest weather station — the same kind of measurement meteorologists trust — alongside the existing radar estimate and any storm spotter reports, so you get the most reliable number for how strong the wind actually got.

• Settings → Default Radar Site lets you choose a specific NEXRAD station for the Map to always open to, with one-tap shortcuts for whichever site is nearest to each of your saved locations.

• A new screen explains why WeatherAlarm needs notification access before the system dialog appears, and Settings now flags clearly if notifications are off — so a loved one's alerts never go silently unnoticed.

• The home screen widget now leads with the monitored location's name, shows "Checked Nm ago" even on a calm day, and comes in new Lock Screen and StandBy sizes.

• Radar now retries automatically on a shaky connection, shows a live download counter so a slow load reads as working instead of stuck, and no longer loses your scrubber history if part of a download fails.

• A new 8-14 Day Outlook map layer shows whether temperature and precipitation are leaning above or below normal in the week-plus ahead, from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center.
