I also don’t really like how you have to pay coins to read completed series (or watch an ad to unlock chapters individually while also getting adds at the beginning of the chapter as well). There are great comics to read, but lately there are so many ads. It used to not be like this and it’s very upsetting. One of my favorite series used to not have ads but now all of a sudden you need to watch an ad just to read the episode. Also there is ad pop ups all the time now when you first click on an episode. It’s making me want to use the app less and less. The current quantity and invasive mess of ads on this app would now make me ashamed to do so. I used this app for over ten years and have only watched it decline. Now there is a paid ad on every. Single. Episode. Comics are stashed behind bloated paywalls. Loved a finished comic and want to read it again? Better cough up. It’s finally reached the point where I am leaving webtoon behind. A ten second google led me to a platform with better UI, more released chapters, superb translations, nothing locked behind any paywall, and all the comics/manhwa I’ve grown to appreciate. Okay, I’ve been using this app since 2016, so I’ve seen some changes… but it’s gotten out of hand. Although it was frustrating to lose access to the episodes being fresh off the press, I understood why series started added coin requirements to unlock new episodes as long as the free ones were released on a weekly basis as well. I’m not a fan of ads, but I was even okay when ad episodes were introduced so that the poor people could have an opportunity to read a couple more if they wanted. Where I draw the line is the series that a) the non payers are ~20 episodes behind what’s released and b) the poor people having to wait *13 years* to read the last 4 episodes teenage mercenary??? I don’t get upset easily, but this seems wayyyy too ridiculous for us to be dealing with. Even smaller waits like A Child Who Looks Like Me was getting on my nerves since the release date kept getting pushed back to where we have to wait nearly a year. So to get to my bottom line, go ahead and add your different tiers for the payers, but please stop punishing the poor people by withholding episodes past a weekly release basis. It’s not making me more likely to pay money, just more likely for me to delete the app altogether which breaks my heart since I have loved Webtoon since I found it. I was hoping it was a bug that would be fixed, but I (and many others) have waited since March and there has not been a change yet. ### 2/5 — Webtoon has jumped off a cliff *2026-08-26, version 3.9.9* I have been reading webtoons since 2018 and I have to say the quality of the app has taken a steep nosedive. It is absolutely littered with ads at every moment. What has really set me off though, is the fact that now you are given an ad every time you open an episode. They take up half of the reading space and in order to have a half decent reading experience, you have to wait for it to finish in order to close it out.
