## What is WeCroak?

As seen in 10% Happier, Atlantic Magazine and The New York Times.

Find happiness by contemplating your mortality with the WeCroak app. Each day, we’ll send you five invitations at randomized times to stop and think about death. It’s based on a Bhutanese folk saying that to be a happy person one must contemplate death five times daily.

The WeCroak invitations come at random times and at any moment just like death. When they come, you can open the app for a quote about death from a poet, philosopher, or notable thinker.

You are encouraged to take one moment for contemplation, conscious breathing or meditation when WeCroak notifications arrive. We find that a regular practice of contemplating mortality helps spur needed change, accept what we must, let go of things that don’t matter and honor things that do.

We’ve also added features to make WeCroak work with your modern life.
•	WeCroak only sends notification between 7 AM and 10 PM
•	Open the app once per week to keep receiving your five daily WeCroak invitations at randomized times

Join the WeCroak Leap Monthly Subscription to go even deeper with death based mindfulness
•	Access WeCroak's Daily Review tool and track what matters most to you each day
•	Enjoy more and harder-hitting WeCroak quotes that are only for subscribers
•	Receive weekly death mindfulness challenges
•	Make your own Memento Mori images with your photos

### 3/5 — Quotes aren’t about death anymore.

*2026-04-05*

Please improve the quotes because I used to love this app!

I wholeheartedly love the concept of this app. In the beginning it was FULL of fantastic quotes surrounding death. After circulating many of the same quotes I upgraded. Unfortunately, while some quotes are still about death, now many are not at all. Just random quotes. Some don’t even make sense or are incomplete sentences. Some are misattributed. I think they might let high usage subscribers add their own to the general pool without vetting whether they are about life or death at all. I get there are a lot of quotes needed, but the point is to contemplate DEATH and DYING or living a good life and many just have nothing to do with the subject.

I really do enjoy the daily reminder! I’m keeping it for sure. It wakes me up and helps me immediately focus on what is truly important. But I would love to see some regulation so my daily reminder can actually be about death.

### 1/5 — Potential Sui.cidal ideation

*2026-03-28, version 3.4.4*

Although the Bhutan ’tradition’ of contemplating your death 5 times a day may have been very helpful. I don’t think in this format it is appropriate. The format of a dopamine/cortisol spike plus the reminder you have to die…

I believe that it has made my sui.cidal ideation worse or has brought a return of it. A friend of mine also experienced similar.

Something to avoid or beware of.

### 5/5 — Simple and brilliant

*2026-01-09, version 3.3.3*

Timed reminders of ones mortality, very grounding

### 3/5 — Good but could be better

*2025-11-22, version 3.4.2*

I like the concept of being reminded 5 times a day at random but there are slight changes I recommend.
For one I recommend that the notification is only the text “Remember, you’re going to die” and not much else- this is way more impactful than squeezing in a “open for a quote” or making the title of the notification “last reminder (for now)”, it takes all the impact away and makes it less appealing, id understand if you wanna tell when it’s the last contemplation of the day, but it’s much simpler to just change the notification title from “Reminder” to “Final Reminder”. My other recommendation is being able to set a time window in which the 5 random notification be sent, like from 6 am to 10pm so they’re not send randomly when someone might not be awake to see it. Otherwise I do like the app, it’s already showing quotes the moment the app is opened so no need to tell someone that clicking the notif will open the app which will display a quote so simply make it “Remember, you’re going to die.” That’s my biggest recommendation.

### 1/5 — Ew, they quote JK Rowling

*2025-10-03, version 3.3.5*

Deleting bc seeing her name makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

### 4/5 — Great concept, technical issues

*2025-07-28*

I’ve been an evangelist of the app for many years and have subscribed to Leap, the premium version, for years as well. Unfortunately, the quote database is still barely above average, and I’ve been locked out of my account (and premium benefits) before without resolution or support reply. I had to create a new account as a workaround. Too bad the app creator doesn’t give this great concept all the attention it deserves, even at a higher price point.

### 1/5 — Money for Nothing

*2025-06-22, version 3.3.3*

A subscription for death quotes? Ridiculous. Avoid.

### 5/5 — Momento Mori

*2025-04-06, version 3.2.8*

What great joy remembering you will die can bring. Never forget.

### 5/5 — Good but

*2024-12-02, version 3.2.8*

Good but not all the quotes are contemplations an out death

### 5/5 — Perspective-giving

*2024-11-25, version 3.2.8*

The powerful impact of these reminders is really wonderful and the advertising is true- brings happiness! Great quotes. This app is wonderful.
