### 3/5 — Quotes aren’t about death anymore.

*2026-04-05*

Please improve the quotes because I used to love this app!

I wholeheartedly love the concept of this app. In the beginning it was FULL of fantastic quotes surrounding death. After circulating many of the same quotes I upgraded. Unfortunately, while some quotes are still about death, now many are not at all. Just random quotes. Some don’t even make sense or are incomplete sentences. Some are misattributed. I think they might let high usage subscribers add their own to the general pool without vetting whether they are about life or death at all. I get there are a lot of quotes needed, but the point is to contemplate DEATH and DYING or living a good life and many just have nothing to do with the subject.

I really do enjoy the daily reminder! I’m keeping it for sure. It wakes me up and helps me immediately focus on what is truly important. But I would love to see some regulation so my daily reminder can actually be about death.

### 3/5 — Good but could be better

*2025-11-22, version 3.4.2*

I like the concept of being reminded 5 times a day at random but there are slight changes I recommend.
For one I recommend that the notification is only the text “Remember, you’re going to die” and not much else- this is way more impactful than squeezing in a “open for a quote” or making the title of the notification “last reminder (for now)”, it takes all the impact away and makes it less appealing, id understand if you wanna tell when it’s the last contemplation of the day, but it’s much simpler to just change the notification title from “Reminder” to “Final Reminder”. My other recommendation is being able to set a time window in which the 5 random notification be sent, like from 6 am to 10pm so they’re not send randomly when someone might not be awake to see it. Otherwise I do like the app, it’s already showing quotes the moment the app is opened so no need to tell someone that clicking the notif will open the app which will display a quote so simply make it “Remember, you’re going to die.” That’s my biggest recommendation.

### 4/5 — Great concept, technical issues

*2025-07-28*

I’ve been an evangelist of the app for many years and have subscribed to Leap, the premium version, for years as well. Unfortunately, the quote database is still barely above average, and I’ve been locked out of my account (and premium benefits) before without resolution or support reply. I had to create a new account as a workaround. Too bad the app creator doesn’t give this great concept all the attention it deserves, even at a higher price point.

### 4/5 — Needs more quotes

*2024-09-29, version 3.2.4*

My family members have said that they have received the same quotes up to five times. It seems like it would be easy enough to keep updating the quotes and regularly adding more to the database.

Otherwise, it’s an interesting concept and has helped me to have a more grounded mindset.

### 4/5 — Be sure WHO you are quoting

*2024-06-09, version 3.2.2*

“I am become death, the destroyer of worlds” J. Robert Oppenheimer Please please quit attributing this to Oppenheimer!! It’s from the Hindu sacred text in the Bhagavad Gita. Oppenheimer only QUOTED it. It makes your app look ignorant and it’s a lovely app. I’ve seen it twice now .

### 4/5 — It can be thought provoking.

*2024-05-20, version 3.2.2*

I really like this app. I want to love it, but some of the quotes are confusing and don’t make sense. I paid for extra content, and so far that has been good. Thank you for this app, may the quotes keep improving 🙌

### 2/5 — Far too much repetition

*2024-03-21, version 3.2.2*

There are literally thousands of quotations about death, if not tens of thousands. Please try google, then build up your database.

### 4/5 — Simple and straightforward, just how I like it.

*2024-02-26, version 3.2.2*

Wish the notifications contained the actual text instead of prompting to open the app.

### 4/5 — Not always great quotations

*2024-02-08, version 3.2.2*

I love this app for my remainders of mortality. Definitely valued in that regard. But more attention needs to be paid to some of the quotations. Not all are reminders of death or mortality. “Hidden messages shared in symbolic language”? What does that even mean? Death is good enough. The pseudo-mysticism takes me out of the experience.

(Also the Bhagavad Gita is misquoted as Oppenheimer. I know he said it, but he was reading the Gita at the time.)

### 3/5 — Needs more quotes

*2023-04-18, version 3.2.0*

I’m seeing the same quotes every time. Update with some new ones please.

### 3/5 — Quote critique

*2023-02-07, version 3.2.0*

Love the concept, but all the quotes I’ve gotten have used he/him pronouns or explicitly only referred to men when discussing grander truths or observations about life.

### 2/5 — not like it used to be

*2023-01-13*

I have used this app for a long time and I really enjoyed it, but since they added a premium version the quality of the free version has really gone down. And I absolutely don’t begrudge them needing to make some money to keep the app going, but the way to do that is to add new features for premium and maybe an optional tip jar to the free version, not to make the free version worse by making all the quotes “inspirational” (insipid) celebrity babble.

Unfortunately the premium version doesn’t seem worth it -ironically what drew me to the app in the first place was the promise to not make just another “mindfulness” app with goals/streak achievements and all that noise, which is exactly what leap appears to be. What made this app unique has been largely pruned away for the sake of marketability, and frankly if one is just looking for generic inspirational quotes X number of times a day then there are dozens of better apps on the market for that. It’s even possible to build something that does this yourself with very little tech know-how.

Capitalism ruins everything, yada yada… just goes to show that trying to make non-attachment and meditations on mortality into a consumable product is probably an unworthy and unworkable goal from the outset. That’s maybe a good thing, and the thought definitely makes deleting an app I’ve used daily for years feel a bit less sad. And even in saying goodbye to WeCroak there’s a final speck of wisdom to take from it: all things end.

It was nice while it lasted.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Potential Sui.cidal ideation

*2026-03-28, version 3.4.4*

Although the Bhutan ’tradition’ of contemplating your death 5 times a day may have been very helpful. I don’t think in this format it is appropriate. The format of a dopamine/cortisol spike plus the reminder you have to die…

I believe that it has made my sui.cidal ideation worse or has brought a return of it. A friend of mine also experienced similar.

Something to avoid or beware of.

### 1/5 — Ew, they quote JK Rowling

*2025-10-03, version 3.3.5*

Deleting bc seeing her name makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

### 1/5 — Money for Nothing

*2025-06-22, version 3.3.3*

A subscription for death quotes? Ridiculous. Avoid.

### 1/5 — Cheated

*2024-10-19, version 3.2.4*

I bought the app, and then with an update it moved to subscribe mode. Thanks for taking away what I paid for.

### 1/5 — Great concept but content is lacking

*2024-07-26*

It’s a wonderful concept but 95% of the quotes are pretty bad. I switched over to the paid subscription to see if it was any better but immediately cancelled that after getting a quote from Paris Hilton. I think it’s useful for the unpaid subscription, just to get the 5 reminders that you’re going to die, but don’t bother opening the notifications.

I send daily quotes to family members and friends so I have a huge library of words if wisdom and inspiration. WeCroak, I’m for hire if it’s just a matter of you all not having time to scour the internet for useful quotes!

I appreciate the intention of creating an app like this, it just seems they had a great idea but ran out of steam to really follow through to make it good.

### 1/5 — Bogus

*2023-01-30, version 3.2.0*

None of the cited authors are speaking from experience.

### 1/5 — App needs work

*2022-12-13, version 3.1.2*

I was really excited to use this app as a Buddhist and meditator. I was disappointed in the app’s performance as my 5 daily quotes didn’t come through, and the app itself is lacking in terms of settings and controls. It’s a great idea just not executed well.

### 1/5 — .

*2022-11-30, version 3.1.2*

Was das

### 1/5 — Can’t be used

*2022-07-03, version 3.1.2*

I tried to get in touch with the developers because Leap no longer works in my iPad. It will not load although I’ve tried many times I hope I can get an answer for this

### 1/5 — Subscription?

*2020-08-12, version 2.54*

I paid for this app several years ago and absolutely loved it. The app is now a subscription. I thought the app would probably honor previous purchases but apparently not. It no longer works properly for me. I’m very disappointed.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple and brilliant

*2026-01-09, version 3.3.3*

Timed reminders of ones mortality, very grounding

### 5/5 — Momento Mori

*2025-04-06, version 3.2.8*

### 5/5 — Good but

*2024-12-02, version 3.2.8*

Good but not all the quotes are contemplations an out death

### 5/5 — Perspective-giving

*2024-11-25, version 3.2.8*

The powerful impact of these reminders is really wonderful and the advertising is true- brings happiness! Great quotes. This app is wonderful.

### 5/5 — Definitely has an effect

*2024-11-08, version 3.2.7*

I’ve been using this app for about 2 weeks now and it’s incredible how something so simple has such an effect - it’s a little hard getting used to seeing that message pop up on your screen at first but I’ve noticed that since I’ve used it I’m a lot more relaxed about many things - it’s a cliche but really not sweating the small stuff as much and just generally letting things go more

### 5/5 — I love it

*2024-04-17, version 3.2.2*

Funny. Profound. Reminds me that I’m part of a sum of parts and not the whole shebang.

### 5/5 — Yes we croak.

*2024-01-10, version 3.2.2*

The App.

### 5/5 — Death is letting go

*2023-08-25, version 3.2.1*

This is a wonderful app, and I have found that I have been much more conscious of this precious life as I think about death more often. I read in some reviews that not all the quotes were about death. Hogwash. Letting go is an essence of death. I wonder if these quotes, this app brings up fear of letting go, which is common in our death-phobic society.
This app is one small tool to help in facing these fears. A wonderful app indeed

### 5/5 — Interesting idea

*2023-07-13, version 3.2.0*

I like both the idea and the implementation of the app.

### 5/5 — Surprisingly uplifting

*2022-11-16, version 3.1.2*

I’ve had the app for about a month and it brings me real pleasure. Each quote makes me stop and think, and the reminders that I’m going to die encourage me to be present and enjoy the little everyday illuminations that make up life. I recommend it to everyone!
