## What is Weekend Read 2?

“Staggeringly useful.” - Dan Etheridge, producer of Veronica Mars and Party Down

We’ve made the best screenplay reader even better.

Weekend Read 2 makes reading screenplays delightful by optimizing scripts for iPhone and iPad retina screens. Never squint and pinch to read a script again.

Whether reading from a PDF or a native file like Final Draft or Fountain, Weekend Read 2 gives you the tools to make every screenplay a smooth and easy read.

Created by screenwriter John August and the team behind the award-winning Highland, Weekend Read 2 has Hollywood talking.

“With Weekend Read, John August and his crafty elves have taken something that was the worst thing, namely reading scripts on a mobile device, and turned it into the best thing. I find it more pleasant to read a script in Weekend Read on my 4-inch iPhone screen than to read a PDF in proper screenplay format on my iPad. I even prefer it to reading full-sized paper scripts.”
- Rian Johnson, writer-director
(Knives Out, Poker Face, Star Wars: The Last Jedi)

“Weekend Read started as an app I didn’t know I needed and quickly became an app I can’t live without. Weekend Read keeps you on top of your reading pile, not buried under it. It’s seriously amazing.”
- Rawson Thurber, writer-director
(Red Notice, Dodgeball)

“This is the perfect solution I’ve been fantasizing about - it makes reading scripts (or anything) on the iPhone not just tolerable, not just painless, but actually a pleasure!”
- David Wain, writer/director/EP
(Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models)

### 3/5 — Issue recently

*2026-08-06*

Love the app but recently feels like all the scripts I try to open with it have lines cut off and choppy. Not sure if this is on my end or a problem with the app.

### 5/5 — Awesome App for Screenplays

*2026-05-25*

This app simply rocks. It elegantly performs as advertised, taking you off the screenwriter’s Path to Insanity — that is, pinching/scrolling/zooming PDFs in perpetuity — and allows you to read scripts on your iPhone! Weekend Read is a game changer.

### 5/5 — Perfect for reading and editing

*2026-03-14*

I heard about this on scriptnotes. It’s incredibly useful for reading on the go. Plus, it helps give me a new perspective on my own writing . You get so used to the shape of your script on the page that seeing it in a different format really helps me focus on the language itself. Helps my brain finally pick up on all those little errors/typos I’ve read over 1000 times on autopilot.

### 1/5 — Broken on ipad

*2025-11-13*

Uploaded a pdf and the app broke the pages up randomly and deleted text. Wouldn’t be an issue if the text formatting button worked but it doesn’t open fully so I can’t see any of the settings.

In my opinion it’s unethical for this to be advertised on script notes and for them to be asking money but not fixing app breaking issues. Sure maybe it works on iPhone but come on.

**Developer response:** Sorry you’re encountering an issue with an imported PDF. Please email support (support@quoteunquoteapps.com) so we can figure out if the issue is with one specific PDF, or a something bigger. We can quickly solve most issues when users email us directly. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2025-10-23*

Beautifully clean, easy to use another amazing calf

### 5/5 — So Happy for This!

*2025-10-11*

Simply amazing access—awesome!!

### 1/5 — Over charged and broken features

*2025-06-03, version 2.0.12*

I apologize in advance for the extra long review but its definitely warranted. The low star review will be updated to 4 once my over charges are credited back to my account.

On with my issues:

I recently sent a support email to have my over charges credited back to my account. I intended to keep this a private matter. Using the email link which is the only support link that works correctly.

I wanted to avoid the public facing review process. I expected this would receive simple and expedited attention since I was charged $25 for the yearly cost to use the app which is listed as $14.99 My email was sent on May 28th and still haven’t received any response from the team; not even an auto generated email.

This needs immediate attention, please.

Onto the rest of the review I left in the email.

I just want to be transparent here. Even with the mix up on the extra charge and the features that do not work as described. I still think the app is useful and intend on supporting it and using the rest of the features that work correctly until these bugs can be addressed and fixed in future updates.

- The import Final Draft files does not import promised (at least not Final Draft 13). The files are not recognised at all and greyed out, making it impossible to import my own project.

It will import PDF files, but when I import a PDF, it incorrectly displays the script formatting. The script is correctly formatted but when the app compiles the PDF it does so incorrectly. Instead it moves elements around or doesn't even bring them in at all.

There are words and even entire elements that appear at the bottom, and sometimes at the top, or in the middle. Content is just wrongly misplaced. To be honest, these are rather minor issues but it does mean I can't import my own script.

To me, the price is fair enough that it is still worth keeping it to read all of the other scripts included in the library.

However, I very much want the extra charge to be reversed and credited back to my bank account ASAP. If it isn't addressed immediately I’ll have no other choice to contest the entire charge with my bank.

I really don't want to because the app is still useful for studying. I can provide a screenshot of the extra charge if you need it as proof.

For information purposes; below I've listed my tech specs and environmental conditions but the private information that has been redacted can still be found in my original email:

Final Draft 13 for Windows
App installed on the iPhone XS Max
Current IOS version: 16.6.1
I export my FD v13 project file to PDF from inside FD v13
imports into your app come from my local iPhone folder.

Kind Regards.
I look forward to a faster response from here.

### 5/5 — For People Who Love Screenwriting

*2025-05-03*

You know who you are. You stop the movie to see how the beats match with the time lapse. You analyze the interior need and external desire of the main character. You argue about the antagonist and if they were 3-dimensional. This is the app for you. Curated by the amazing team at Scriptnotes, get the inside look at the screenplays that you love, or love to hate, to learn from the best writers in the industry. Highlight, take notes, send quotes to others plus listen to all the archived podcast episodes from John August and Craig Mazin.

### 4/5 — Love it but one thing…

*2025-03-15*

Can you please restore my place in the script when I launch the app? It goes to my library, and I can see that the script has a progress bar matching where I left off, but it opens to page 1. Then I have to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll….

### 2/5 — Nice! But Broken

*2025-02-10*

The automatic viewer is pretty nice and worth getting for the free version alone. Thankfully I only needed to get the free trial to see that the premium ‘Read Aloud’ feature just didn’t work. I downloaded the voices via Settings, but it just shows the underlined portion which is meant to be read out, but doesn’t actually do any reading aloud.
