## What is Well Versed?

Speak, and be understood.

Most ways of learning a language never get you talking. You can study for years and still freeze in a real conversation. Well Versed is the opposite. You learn by actually speaking, with a tutor who listens and never judges, until the language is yours.

Well Versed is a voice-first AI language tutor for iPhone and iPad. You hold real spoken conversations in 17 languages with a tutor that hears your actual voice, including pronunciation, hesitation and pace, rather than reading a transcript of it.

IT WORKS THE WAY YOU LEARNED TO TALK
You didn’t learn your first language from flashcards. You learned it by listening and talking, long before you could read a word of it. Well Versed brings that back.

IT HEARS YOUR ACTUAL VOICE
Most apps turn your speech into text before the AI ever hears it, so they only ever read your words. Well Versed runs on a new generation of voice model that hears you speak. It picks up your tone, your pace and your pronunciation, and it responds to how you really sound.

HOW A SESSION GOES
You speak. Out loud, in the language, from your very first session.
It answers. Naturally and in real time, so the back and forth flows like talking to a person.
It helps. A word, a grammar point, or a gentle correction, exactly when you need it.
It remembers. It quietly learns what you find hard and comes back to it, so every session builds on the last.

A TUTOR WHO NEVER JUDGES
Pause, stumble, ask in English, try again. Your tutor just keeps you going. Five tutors per language, each with their own region and accent, so you learn the language people actually speak rather than a textbook average of it. Choose one and stay with them.

TRAVEL MODE
Tell Well Versed you’re going somewhere, and the weeks before point at what you’ll actually need. While you’re there, you get one small real-world challenge a day: the kind you have to say out loud to a person, like asking for the thing behind the counter or getting directions without switching to English. When you’re home, your tutor wants to hear how it went.

YOUR WORDS, FOR THE DAYS YOU CAN’T TALK
Nobody learns to speak from cards, which is why these ones don’t pretend to. Between conversations, a few quiet minutes keeps the words you’ve already used from going cold. The list builds itself out of what you actually said out loud, so there’s nothing to curate. And a word leaves it the moment you use it cleanly in a real conversation.

NEW HERE, OR YEARS RUSTY
Complete beginners are welcome. Start as simply as you like, lean on English whenever you’re stuck, and the tutor meets you where you are. You don’t need vocabulary to begin. You pick it up by talking.

NO STREAKS, NO POINTS, NO LEAGUES
Nothing in Well Versed is built to make you feel bad for missing a day. After each conversation you get a short, honest note on what actually happened: what landed, what didn’t, what to try next time. That’s the only score there is.

17 LANGUAGES
Arabic (Modern Standard), Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese. European and Latin American varieties are separate languages here, each with their own tutors and accents.

WHAT LEARNERS SAY
“I really love the progress notes. I feel like it lets me know what’s actually happening. And I can finally talk to my girlfriend’s parents!”

“I’m still blown away how fast I’ve been able to learn with this. It feels like I’m moving 10x faster than every other app I’ve tried.”

WHAT IT COSTS
Your first conversation is free. After that every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, with no charge until it ends and cancel any time. Plans start at US$39.99 a month, roughly what a single hour with a private tutor costs.

Less studying. More speaking.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-13

Readings under every script
Learning Japanese, Korean, Russian, Hindi, Thai or Arabic? You'll now see a Latin reading beneath the native script wherever it appears — while you're talking, in your notes afterwards, and on review cards. It starts switched on; turn it off in Settings the moment you'd rather read the script on its own.

Say when something's off
You can now report anything the tutor says that doesn't sit right. And the difficulty control explains itself instead of waiting to be found — if a conversation felt too easy or too hard, say so, and the next few shift to match.

A better start
We ask what you've actually done in the language rather than what level you think you are, and how you'd like your tutor to address you.

Reminders you agreed to
If a daily nudge would help. We ask first instead of assuming.

Also: the reconnect banner no longer gets stuck, clearer wording when the microphone is blocked, pull-to-refresh on Android, and the right serif on both platforms.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-10

Bug fixes and performance improvements

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-01

Two new ways to get unstuck mid conversation.

Tap to translate. Tap any line your tutor said to see what it means.

Suggest a reply. Tap the lightbulb and your tutor offers one thing you could
say next, with the English underneath.

Your home screen now shows how far you have come, with this week picked out in
a lighter shade. It only ever fills.

Everything is faster. Session notes arrive about five times quicker, and
translations, suggestions and practice ideas all come back sooner.

The note after a session now varies with what actually happened rather than
always praising you, and marks the first time you manage something alone.

Setting up is shorter, and your first conversation is free.

Also fixed: continuing a finished conversation, a call indicator that lingered
after a session ended, conversations lost when the server restarted, travel
notifications that did not carry the challenge, and spacing throughout.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-25
