### 5/5 — Almost better than pizza

*2015-01-17, version 2.1.0*

Had this app from when it first came out and never used it until I seen a great YouTube vid on it. Can't put it down now that I see what it can do. Beats all the other sequencers and arp apps hands down. Would like to see longer cell sample times and a few surprise me features added but all in all 5+ stars.

### 5/5 — Best loop creation tool on ios.

*2014-12-26, version 2.1.0*

Fun, powerful, easy learning curve.

Whether you want to make more creative loops out of your audiobus apps, expensive external gear, or household noises, this is a great powerful quick way to turn any sound into music.

You aren't going to be building entire songs in this, it's a sampler/looper, and quite possibly the best one on IOS.

You can get crazy creative with it using the built in effects and pitch changing. If you're into creating new sounds from existing ones, get it now and you'll love it.

### 5/5 — Feature-packed Simplicity

*2014-11-16, version 2.1.0*

This app is just fantastic! Very well designed and thought out, you'll be making fun grooves in no time. Any style of music can be created / performed with this excellent sampler-sequencer. With overdub mode, you can layer on top of your existing samples and really compose some sweet stuff. Save your songs, copy & paste samples and entire patterns...Worth every penny!

### 5/5 — iOS 8 problems!

*2014-09-21, version 2.0.0*

Fantastic app, but it doesn't want to open in iOS 8! Feedback? Fixes? I need this app to work!

### 5/5 — WOAH!!!!!! WOW!!!!!

*2013-07-07, version 2.0.0*

Werkbench will blow your mind!!! Uniquely fresh & fun & you can make awesome sonic creations with this!!!! Do not sleep on Werkbench!!!

### 5/5 — My Favorite

*2013-06-30, version 2.0.0*

Out of what seems like hundreds of music apps on my iPad, this is easily my favorite. So simple yet powerful at the same time. I truly feel like this is its own unique instrument and compositional tool. Just search for video examples of this app online, but be prepared to totally lose a few hours of time going down the rabbit hole.

### 5/5 — That way things oughta be

*2013-05-09, version 2.0.0*

Well done app! Love it! A little goofy and unconventional tho, looks like a dungeon and dragons game, but solid music creation app!

### 5/5 — Great new features - could still use a more subtle color pallet

*2013-05-08, version 2.0.0*

Glad this is still getting updates! The refreshed graphics are great. Lots of good updates in version 2 and still deceptively simple to learn your way around. Hope the app store updates new screenshots soon. I already liked it a lot, and actually used it a lot, too. Thank you!!

### 5/5 — A top-tier music app

*2013-03-19, version 2.0.0*

I bought Werkbench way back when it was first released, intrigued by its unique sampling capabilities, and it's been a staple in my repertoire ever since. The sleek new 2.0 release only reaffirms the greatness of Werkbench in the iOS realm. The new features (Audiobus support, ability to import audio, even fancier! Fancy Controls) speak to Bolasol Inc's push to create a better, more comprehensive instrument. Werkbench is still fun and charming as ever, but the user has gained much more control over sounds and sampling potential.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2013-03-18, version 2.0.0*

Fun, intuitive, dynamic, expressive, and Audiobus! WerkBench rules!

### 5/5 — At this moment, the best Audiobus Compatible app

*2013-03-14, version 2.0.0*

First off I am just amazed what I got done on this app with Audiobus support from the time I downloaded it. I have the iPhone version which is pretty cool and gives you a taste of what it's big brother can do. But now with Audiobis support I can take any other AB compatible app and instantly create my own sounds and craft them on the fly the way I want. Not to mention the numerous ways of routing Werkbench to and from another app via Audiobus.

Just freaking amazing!

I have to say that I am actually laying more beats down on this then on the iMPC. Keep up the good work and this app is a must have!

For those who have the iPhone version, the developer has mentioned he will work on Audiobus support for that as well.

### 5/5 — Up a level with Audiobus

*2013-03-12, version 2.0.0*

If there was ever an app that benefited from audio bus, it's WerkBench. It's great to be able to record your audiobus input into WerkBench so you can create new loops. Plus the midi support is great too!

### 5/5 — So much fun, incredibly creative!

*2013-01-15, version 1.10*

If you have ever beat boxed, sung in the shower, written a song, or played drums on your table, dashboard or steering wheel, you will enjoy this app.

I really hope this works with audiobus soon!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn't work with iOS 8

*2014-10-12, version 2.0.0*

I used to love this app, but with iOS 8 it crashes on startup every time. Please update!

### 2/5 — Astounded

*2018-11-10, version 3.1.0*

And not in a good way. This seems like an otherwise well written and creative app...but...and it’s a huge but, you import sounds by importing them into the app and replaying them and resampling onto a pad! Why?! Why wouldn’t you just pick a pad and have the sample loaded into it? Why on earth would u load a sound only to resample it using threshold recording!? I’m still honestly speechless as to why the dev would do this. It’s an extra step that is so easily avoided. How about pick a pad, import sample to pad...done. I never write reviews but this aggravated me so bad and it’s just a shame because otherwise the app seems to have had a lot of work put into it but this is the most simple thing and to get that wrong is just astounding. ( also it has echo on the import sample slot as well but you can’t use it..it’s there for ‘fun’ according to the manual...absolutely pointless)

### 3/5 — Boring

*2016-01-21, version 2.1.0*

This one is fun for a while but the interface is clunky.and really needs a complete face lift.its twenty sixteen.and cartoon like interfaces are out.i want tools not graphic entertainment.especially with a sampling app.thats why I don't use it any more.

### 3/5 — Hmm. Very quirky.

*2014-03-03, version 2.0.0*

I'm not yet sure exactly what I think of this. Seems like it has potential, but the interface is a bit bizarre. Seems to be no way to save a project? Or individual samples? Live performance potential seems good though. Left-right movement knobs rather than up-down was confusing at first, usually such knobs work in both directions. Will experiment more and may comment again later if it turns out useful...

### 3/5 — Needs more depth

*2012-08-16, version 1.03*

This is a neat app. There are no built in samples. You must create all of your own sounds. As far as I can tell, there is no layering. You can only assign single sounds to a spot. I wish there was an easy way for the online community to share samples. In app upload would be too cool!
Easy to figure out.

### 4/5 — Awesome But Still Has Room for Improvement

*2013-03-23, version 2.0.0*

This app is really good and really fun to use. The Audiobus support is perfect and opens up the doors.

The app is basically a five star app as is, but I'm currently rating it a 4/5 because great apps like this can transcend and evolve into something really special (see below for my ideas).

Additions to the app I would like to see are the ability to reverse samples and the ability to adjust their start and end points. Also the ability to change time signatures (the swing slider just isn't enough for me). Oh, and a bit crush effect would be nice as well.

All in all small gripes on an otherwise fantastic app. One of my favorites on the iPad and I have a lot!

Works great with an iPad 2 and Audiobus.

### 4/5 — Amazing

*2013-02-06, version 1.10*

I do not know how I found out about werkbench, but I am so grateful I did. I do not write extensive reviews, but this is again an amazing app. I have most of the top ios music production apps, and I can honestly say, I never tire of werkbench. Thank you for an intuitive, creative provoking app!!!!! Cheers!!!!

### 4/5 — Great App

*2013-01-25, version 1.10*

I've had this app for a couple days. Definitely worth the price. It's very easy to get started...I had a sequence going within seconds. The controls are pretty intuitive and the response time when hitting pads in Drum mode is fantastic. I'd love to see more export options and, like tons of other music apps, AudioBus support. Other than that, no gripes. This is great!

### 4/5 — Great

*2012-08-18, version 1.03*

Great app but UI looks cartoonish maybe provide some slick looking skin options

### 5/5 — Lovely, but needs AUv3 compatibility.

*2021-12-03, version 3.1.0*

I'm a fan who needs AUv3 compatibility for this app. This was one of my earliest discoveries when the first generation iPad was released. The app has improved it's aesthetics over the years. I only wish that it was an AUv3 which would make it even more powerful.

### 5/5 — iPhone version

*2021-04-17, version 3.1.0*

Really really cool app! Would it be possible to update the IPhone version? I miss playing around with that on the go!

### 5/5 — So good!

*2017-10-01, version 3.1.0*

Love Love Looooving the updates!! Buy it folks~

### 5/5 — This App ROCKS! Universal Soon....PLEASE!

*2017-09-30, version 3.1.0*

This is a classic on ipad and is not only easy and fun as noted, but a great professional music tool. There was an iphone version and rumor has it this is going universal...one can hope!

### 5/5 — This one is fantastic!

*2017-09-21, version 3.0.0*

Has been a favorite for years, and contains more features and deeper depths than I have ever been able to fully learn. A fantastic tool that will let you unleash your creativity while sampling your world.

Get this. Seriously. Just spend the seven dollars, and you will not regret it!

### 5/5 — Sampling, fun again!

*2017-09-19, version 3.0.0*

Been using this app for the last year and love it. The sampling is painless, and instant. You can fill up the 16 steps in the time it takes to make 16 sounds. The stuff you can make reminds me of weird little tape loops from the 60s, like the Radiophonic workshop or Simon & Garfunkel's"Cecilia".

One really special thing that makes the loops interesting, is how easy it is to make variations of samples for the different beats, rather than replaying the same sample over and over. You can make each one a little different, and it sounds different and less robotic than just using one sample over and over.

Solid performance for me on ipad air ios8.3. Hasn't crashed once.

Edit: Outstanding update to v3.0. Automation works great, scales for the pitch work a treat, nice look to the controls. Like the reverb and crush. No issues, on ipad air ios 10.3

### 5/5 — Werkit

*2017-05-13, version 2.1.0*

He he he

### 5/5 — Really, really fun! Working on iOS 9 for me

*2015-10-02, version 2.1.0*

It's a fantastic app. I haven't delved too deep into it yet but so far I love it. After installation, REBOOT. That clears up the crackles.

### 5/5 — GAZ would love this 1!!!!

*2015-04-30, version 2.1.0*

$ well spent! This combo sampler looper has a very powerful set of features packed into its one panel interface. Running on a ipad air1 it has not crashed once. Rock solid. Ability to import sounds and cut out clips is awesome. Imported a buncha iMS20 sounds to mess with. Filters sound real dirty and nasty. Delay is also very flex.
Super intuitive to get weird polyrhythms and non trad beats running and evolving. Saving sound sets and then switching on the fly works great. Have not yet tried using with a dedicated ipad audio/midi interface. As far as midi, I am unclear how and what can be controlled. Apparently the developer is good about answering questions... Compared to loopy, Werkbench is immediately more gratifying especially for rhythmic stuff.

### 5/5 — amazing sample looper

*2015-04-01, version 2.1.0*

so much fun!!! this is a greta looper . make loops then export for use in other apps. i was so happy with this fun app.
