### 3/5 — Great when it’s working

*2024-08-28*

I use this app on an old first-generation iPhone SE and have been very happy with it. After I updated the phone to iOS 15.8.3, the app didn’t chime. I’ve just tried it again and now it’s working, though I haven’t changed anything on the phone. So this app is great when it’s working but may not be entirely reliable.

### 3/5 — It doesn’t work on IPad?

*2024-06-01*

No where does it say it does not work on IPad. I downloaded it, no problem, paid the money, no problem. But it does not work.
And it is asking me to upgrade when I try to use it on my phone. I really like the idea of a chime again. Keeps me grounded. But to avoid all of the telemarking calls, my phone is on silent the majority of the time. I thought I’d get to let my iPad do the chiming.
I hope there will be an update for that soon.
And, by the way, I’d like a refund of the two bucks .
Thank you

### 3/5 — Doesn't ever work

*2024-05-25, version 2.6.0*

My settings are all correct in the phone and in the app. Still, nothing ever happens. Paid two dollars for specific adjustments, but I just wasted it.

### 4/5 — Great app, but…

*2024-05-18, version 2.6.0*

This app is great for when you need an audible reminder of the time. But I don’t care for the visual notifications coming up on my phone. What good does that do when I’m listening audibly? Perhaps a future update could address that.

### 3/5 — great app... Just Not Loud to hear.

*2024-04-12, version 2.6.0*

Very good app. Works as needed. Just I cant hear it with the volume up all the way and even if I plug it into my 400 watt sound system it's not loud at all:(

### 2/5 — Incomplete chime sequences

*2023-07-20, version 2.5.1*

As previously noted by other users,
The software is broken...
Chimes start but do not complete.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2023-07-12, version 2.5.1*

Downloaded it today because I like the sound of Westminister chimes. It cuts off before playing the full familiar chime, and even in high volume , it plays very soft so you don’t hear it unless you are right next to it.

### 5/5 — Great app and great support

*2023-01-01*

I use this app primarily to assist with my time-blindness due to ADHD, but also to remind me to check-in on things like an I being mindful.

The app is very well designed and even works around IOS limitations beautifully.

If you experience any issues, be sure to reach out to the developer as he is very diligent and also quite articulate in explaining how the app and IOS is designed and how to best configure the app for your intentions.

### 5/5 — Good

*2022-12-19, version 2.5.1*

Great

### 3/5 — Chimes on the hour

*2022-12-10, version 2.5.1*

I am disappointed that after 4 chimes for 4:00 that there are only 4 chimes for every hour after 4:00 too. I expected 5 chimes for 5:00 and 6 for 6:00 and so on.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2022-11-15*

A friend recommended Westminster Chimes to me and I love it! I've always liked chiming clocks, so it's great to have Westminster Chimes on my phone, it sounds exactly like a chiming clock you'd have in your house, in fact I like it so much I've bought the pro version. I love that there's several different chimes to choose from too, although the Westminster Quarters are my favourite. I'm completely blind, so thanks for making it accessible with VoiceOver as well.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Didn’t work

*2026-01-18*

Follow the instructions how to activate in the notification. Didn’t work for iPhone

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work at All

*2025-08-18, version 2.6.0*

I have notifications turned on, my phone is NOT in silent mode. Broken app

### 1/5 — They take your money even though the app is not updated to current iOS

*2025-03-10, version 2.6.0*

I understand a developer might not want to keep updating its app to keep up with current times, but you should either tell customers it won’t work with any iOS after 10 or whatever, or shut off the pay feature AND tell people it won’t work with the most recent iOS systems.

### 1/5 — No longer works after iOS update

*2024-08-03*

I use this app on an old first-generation iPhone SE and have been very happy with it. But after I updated the phone to iOS 15.8.3, the app doesn’t chime. I’ve double-checked the Notifications settings and sound volume, so the problem is incompatibility with the iOS version. I hope this will be fixed, since I have a paid version of the app.

### 1/5 — it just seems like my banners are off but they’re on

*2024-06-12, version 2.6.0*

please fix

### 1/5 — Not useful- doesn’t run in background

*2023-10-19, version 2.5.1*

Phone was silent until I unlocked it. Then I got an hour’s worth of backlogged chimes at once

### 1/5 — Broken paid feature. Warning

*2023-07-07, version 2.5.1*

I paid for the additional sounds, but every time I pick another sound, it won’t let me change it and reverts back to the original Westminster sound.

it chimes reliably in the background.

The issue is that I didn’t get what I paid for.

Dev, please fix this!

### 1/5 — Lite version does nothing

*2023-05-17, version 2.5.1*

Loaded the lite version twice. Once it alerted my watch that it was a quarter after other than that this app does nothing other that ask you to pay for the upgraded version which I hope does something

### 1/5 — International flaw

*2023-01-16*

According to the info on the App, you get control of the volume once you've paid for access to all the controls. In the free version the chime volume is muted to try and get you buy the paid version. Worth reporting to Apple.

### 1/5 — Westminster chimes

*2022-09-19, version 2.5.1*

I add the original app and it worked fine then it was to be purchased and the free version didn’t work. So I bought it but I can’t get it to make any noise. I turned on notifications in the set up I checked the volume settings nothing works. Very frustrating and disappointing

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I love the chimes!

*2026-05-10*

I love this app so much! The Westminster Chimes are perfect because the notes of each chime are different, and extended and that makes it awesome. However, I have always wanted the PM hours to have the hour chime be a little bit higher pitched than the AM hours. I feel like that would be awesome because I have mine go all the time!

### 5/5 — Liked it well enough to pay, still happy I did

*2026-03-31*

MAR2026
The chimes are great, they help with time-awareness while I’m focused elsewhere. While I like the chimes, they do bother/distract some people in the vicinity. (Which is why I tried the voice version.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There should be a couple of additional voice options, one with an introductory chime and one without a chime, both with a voice simply saying, “It’s 3 PM.”
“It’s 3:15 PM.” “It’s 3:30 PM.” etc..
Example: Chime, then voice announcing “It’s 3 PM.”
Simple, precise, quick.
Personally, I don’t care for the imprecise phrase “It’s half past the hour.” Which hour?? I was outside of hearing range when it said “It’s top of the hour, 3 o’clock,” 30 minutes ago. Also, “It’s top of the hour” yeah, I’ve never heard anyone use that phrase IRL. Maybe it’s an old English idiom meant to match the chimes?
Anyway I’m going back to the chimes and will create yet another Focus so I can turn them off occasionally.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do I recommend this 99¢ app which does Not collect our personal information? Absolutely! Just bc I want a couple of new features, doesn’t mean I don’t like it.

### 5/5 — Useful Tool For Time Blindness

*2026-03-09*

The hourly chimes were sort of helping so I figured I may as well pay for the upgrades to make the app more customizable for my needs. It was worth the small fee! I am able to have it only run during the hours I want to be productive. Using the voice option to announce the time (rather than have to count the chimes) keeps me from spending an entire day down a rabbit hole.

I would love more voice options if the creator ever has the urge to tinker with the app.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-05-23, version 2.6.0*

I have enjoyed this app since 2018. Love when people look around for a clock. When I tell them that it’s my phone, they want it too.

### 5/5 — Great app, I use it to measure time more effectively

*2025-05-15*

I love this app, really helps me be more aware of how much time is passing and helps me not waste time. Currently I’m using the every 30 min chime to remind me to stand. I wouldn’t mind if there was also an Apple Watch version!

### 5/5 — Up cycle old iPhone; “fix” a broken antique clock.

*2024-04-06*

Loaded the lite version onto an old iPhone 5. Got it chiming. To conserve energy, turned off all the other phone functions such as Bluetooth, wireless, Siri, gps. Put it next to a broken antique clock on the mantel. Recharged it once a week, like remembering to wind up the old clock. Perfect!

### 5/5 — What I seek

*2023-10-28, version 2.5.1*

is for a clock that can do this. For now, I will use my iphone. This is the only app that is actually what I was hoping it would be.

### 5/5 — No longer works on my iPhone but still does on a friends

*2023-05-12*

I upgraded. The app is perfect- when it works.
 It worked on my iPhone. Then worked intermittently.
 I still get text notifications of chime but now don’t get a chime at all.
 Does anyone know why?

### 5/5 — Great app and lovely chimes

*2023-03-18, version 2.5.1*

Works just as you’d hope

### 5/5 — Helps with ADHD

*2023-02-07, version 2.5.1*

I got this app because I lose track of time easily. I’d tried looking on Amazon for a digital clock that chimes like a grandfather clock, but without success.

Now I’m more conscious of the passing of time.
