(I still like it on my tablet) The home screen has too much info and temps and controls now take up so much space, I struggle to see what’s happening. The radar “play” is no longer transparent. I’m using the app during a major storm outbreak right now and need to see more area! This app is my main source of weather when I don’t have my tablet with me. (I’d rate the App 4.5 if I only used the tablet) I’d have sent “developer feedback” instead of leaving this sad review, but there is no link: everything goes to the WGN website where (once painstakingly located) the Contact list does NOT include the WGN app developers. Fix that, too! This App used to have a Technical Feedback link. ### 2/5 — Poor updates *2026-06-07, version 6.2.512* The current update to the app has ads and banners taking up more than 50% of the screen space on my iPhone. Difficult to interpret. ### 2/5 — Ads have overrun the app *2026-06-03, version 6.2.512* Used to be a great app for quickly checking the weather and now they force you to sit through full screen ads for 15 seconds at a time, and the same ad again when you switch screens to a different section. I love the Tom skilling voice warnings from the WGN Weather app, however it is not actually a usable app to get information from because on each screen it pops up with an ad that you can’t close out of. Which makes it tough to view the weather for the day….. They like to roll this non-close ads function out every now and then and so I use a different Weather app completely and only keep WGN for the voice warnings from Tom skilling. If they take Tom skilling off of the voice warnings I will immediately delete the app and get hit by a tornado. ### 1/5 — Zero stars!! *2026-05-20, version 6.1.601* Absolutely theeee worst weather app out there. Timing is everything when you’re wanting to know when a storm will hit but when ads pop up and sometimes repeat - it’s very frustrating not to receive the information needed to make a quick decision if you have time to prepare for a coming storm or not. Over 10 years this app was my to-go-to. It’s pretty sad that app creators/WGN have turned a deaf ear to those who depended on this weather app. ### 3/5 — Ads are killing the app *2026-04-26, version 6.1.601* I used to love this app. But now every time I open the hourly weather window there is a 30 second ad that makes me want to throw the phone and then it repeats itself and you can’t get out of it. How could it be bad it came from the world of Tom Skilling back in the day right? Today it is nothing but ill placed advertising. I understand it must've been difficult to get someone to pay the high fee fees for that splash screen ad that used to come on every time you open the app and now the entire app with ridiculous advertising before you even see the forecast and when you try your screens. Very disappointing and not a good look for the folks in Chicago who depend on it ### 2/5 — Would rate higher but *2026-04-14, version 6.1.601* How do I turn off Tom Skilling announcing “lightening detected nearby” without turning off notifications. If there’s a tornado, fine. If there is lightning 5 miles away and it’s 3am…. Not interested. For example, with the amount of crazy weather we've had lately it's not enjoyable to be looking at storm track only to have it interrupted with an ad. It cuts off or starts in the middle of some of the highlighted programs …9@9. It’s too many ads for each different clip and it never gives you the full story. I deleted it. I recently moved from that area, so I enjoyed keeping it with the news. On top of that there have been times where I can’t even close out of an ad and I have to quit the app and try again just to experience the same issue of not being able to close the ad. Telling me where and when I’m going into the rain and coming out of it, along with any other kind of weather on the highway. I found it very useful and extremely helpful. Believe me… when you’re pulling a loaded 53 foot trailer behind you all the time…it really does come in handy knowing what the weather is like. Between WGN WEATHER & WAZE, it makes traveling through life a breeze when you’re driving up and down the highways! ### 5/5 — My Favorite Weather App No Matter Where You Live *2022-08-07* After spending all of my childhood and most of my adult life in the Chicago area, I moved to the east coast a few years ago. One of the first things I missed was WGN Weather, which has always been exemplary. I was so happy to find this app, which is ALWAYS the most accurate for my weather in the Philadelphia area. Sadly, there is no one even close to Tom Skilling and his team elsewhere in the country. They don’t get that a weather report is NOT simply reading out the temperatures on a map. The WGN Weather Team actually EXPLAINS it to you. Kudos to WGN, Tom Skilling, and the entire WGN weather team for doing the best weather in the country! Of course this app will not explain it to you the way the professionals at WGN Weather do it on WGN TV, but at this app will give you the most accurate weather available anywhere. Nothing comes close. ### 5/5 — Pop-up of Tom Skilling and someone else *2021-01-18* I’ve used the WGN Weather app for quite some time now. It is the best app out of all those in the App Store. But since you added the pop-up picture of Tom Skilling and someone else, every time I use the app I get so disgusted with having to close a window that adds absolutely nothing to the app except irritation before I can get the information I wish. Please remove this feature. I find it totally useless as far as I am concerned. If it remains, I will find another source for my weather information. ### 5/5 — Tom Skilling’s announcements *2020-08-28, version 5.0.802* This is an outstanding app. I have friends in North Carolina and South Carolina that use it and rave about it. I forget which announcement Tom makes but is cut off at the end. It sounds choppy. If you could add one-two seconds more to the notifications it would be an excellent enhancement to the app. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing all the notifications on the WGN weather app everywhere loud clear and complete.
