## What is Whats For Dinner Tonight?

Tired of the 5pm "what's for dinner?" spiral? This app answers it in three taps.

WHAT CAN I MAKE?
Add what's in your pantry and we'll match it against your saved meals — including "almost there" meals where you're one ingredient short, with classic swap suggestions ("no eggs — ¼ cup applesauce works in baking"). Mint dots in your cookbook mark what your pantry covers tonight.

SURPRISE ME
Can't decide? Get a pick from meals you've actually cooked before, weighted to skip what you made this week — and it tells you why it picked ("you haven't made this in 3 weeks, and your spinach needs using").

MAKE ME SOMETHING NEW (AI)
Let AI riff on your actual pantry and suggest three fresh meal ideas you can save with one tap.

FILL YOUR COOKBOOK AND PANTRY FAST
• Paste a recipe link — most sites import instantly, free.
• Snap a photo of a cookbook page or handwritten recipe card (AI).
• Scan your fridge and AI identifies the ingredients (AI).
• Scan a product barcode to add packaged goods in seconds.
• Or just say "Hey Siri, add eggs and milk to my pantry."

THE APP PAYS ATTENTION WHEN YOU COOK
Tap "I made this" and a quick optional moment follows: jot a note ("double the sauce"), tap anything you used up so your pantry stays honest, and snap a photo of your plate — your cookbook finally has faces.

SHARE THE WIN
Turn tonight's dinner into a brag card for the group chat or your story — square for posts, tall for stories. And send any recipe to a friend as a link: it opens right in their app, or as a clean recipe page if they don't have it yet.

AT A GLANCE
A home-screen widget shows how many meals you can make right now and what to use soon, dressed in your theme.

WASTE LESS
Gentle "use soon" hints when fresh ingredients are about to turn — no dates to enter, ever.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your meals, pantry, and history live on your device and your own iCloud. No account, no ads, no tracking — and "Download my cookbook" exports everything to a file that's yours to keep.

FREE FOREVER, AI OPTIONAL
The deciding features are free. AI features (fridge scan, recipe photo import, meal ideas, swaps) are optional: subscribe for hosted AI — Standard $2.99/month or $19.99/year, Pro $9.99/month or $79.99/year — or bring your own Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini API key.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-27

The update that pays attention when you cook.

• After "I made this," a quick optional moment: jot a note ("double the sauce"), tap anything you used up so your pantry stays honest, and snap a photo of your plate.
• Meals can have photos now — your cookbook finally has faces.
• Share the brag: turn tonight's dinner into a pretty card for the group chat or your story. Square for posts, tall for stories.
• Send a recipe to a friend as a link — it opens right in their app, or as a clean recipe page if they don't have the app yet.
• A home-screen widget: how many meals you can make right now and what to use soon, dressed in your theme.
• Surprise Me now tells you why it picked — "you haven't made this in 3 weeks, and your spinach needs using."
• Importing a recipe you already have? It notices, and offers to open the original instead.
• Settings: "Download my cookbook" exports your meals and pantry as a file that's yours to keep — and Import merges it right back.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-07-16

• Share a recipe straight from Safari — tap Share, pick What's For Dinner, and it lands in your cookbook ready to review.
• Filter your meals by tag with the new chips above the list — no more one long scroll.
• The screen stays awake while you're viewing a recipe. Cook with wet hands, fearlessly.
• Small improvements under the hood.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-06

The big one: import recipes!
• Paste a link — most sites import instantly, free for everyone.
• Or snap a photo of a cookbook page or a handwritten recipe card and AI reads it into your cookbook.

Also new:
• Scan a barcode to add packaged goods to your pantry in seconds.
• "Use soon" nudges when fresh ingredients are about to turn — and Surprise Me now leans toward meals that use them up.
• Missing an ingredient? See classic swaps instantly, or swipe for an AI suggestion drawn from what's actually in your pantry.
• A suggestion box in Settings — tell us what you wish the app did.

### 1.2.3 — 2026-06-11

• The app now has a suggestion box: Settings → "Request a feature." Tell us what
you wish it did — the most-requested ideas genuinely shape what gets built next.
• Small tidying under the hood.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-06-10

• Fixed: subscribers can now use AI features without entering an API key — sorry about that one.
• Text now respects your iPhone's text size setting throughout the app.
• Sample meals and ingredients are clearly labeled, and you can remove them in Settings.
• Your Siri voice commands are now listed in Settings so you never forget the magic words.
• Cancel button while AI is thinking, plus smarter "almost there" suggestions.
