## What is What's Poppin?

Stop guessing where the fun is at. See it live on the map.
Tired of showing up to dead bars, empty parks, or "events" that actually ended two hours ago? What’s Poppin Social is the live pulse of your city. We’ve turned the map into an interactive experience where your engagement determines what's hot.

How it works:
Make a Post: See something cool? Snap a photo or video and drop it directly onto the map for your city to see.

Watch it Grow: This is where the magic happens. The more likes your post gets, the bigger your popcorn bucket grows on the map.

Wait for the POP: Once a spot gets enough love from the community, it transforms into an Overflowing Bucket, signaling to everyone that the location is officially POPPIN.

Find Your Tribe: Use the map to discover new friends nearby who share your vibe. It’s the ultimate way to connect with people and find hidden gems you’d never find on a standard review app.

Always Fresh: Our map has no room for stale vibes. Posts expire quickly, so if you see a bucket on the map, the action is happening NOW.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-03-20

Bug fixes and improvements to keep What's Poppin running smooth:

Fixed an issue where special characters in drop titles (like >) were displaying incorrectly
Cleaned up the Edit Profile screen — simpler, faster, and saving empty fields now works correctly
Performance and stability improvements under the hood

### 1.2 — 2026-03-11

Bug Fixes

### 1.1 — 2026-03-04

Version 1.1:

Changes in This Update

Fixed DM messaging bugs — Non-OK HTTP responses now properly clean up stuck "sending" messages and restore input text. Added 5-second polling for new incoming messages. Fixed SquadScreen sending wrong user ID to conversation API.

Changed "Allow Location Access" button to "Continue" on the MapScreen pre-permission screen.

DMs restricted to follow relationships — Message button is hidden for non-followed users in both SquadScreen and UserProfileScreen. Server-side enforcement added so only users with a follow relationship can start conversations (Apple App Store compliance).

Profile update propagation — Added userId column to chat messages so username/profile picture changes show correctly across all live chats and DMs. Server now resolves current user data from the database instead of trusting client-sent data. React Query cache is invalidated after profile updates so all screens refresh.

Deleted old test drops — Removed all test/mock posts from the database and deleted hardcoded Nevada mock markers (XS Nightclub, In-N-Out Burger, Town Square) from the client code. Map now only shows real user-created drops.

Live comment counts — Comment counts on user profiles, the drops feed, and individual drop views are now calculated live from actual chat messages in the database instead of always showing zero.

Report user in DMs — Added a flag icon button in the DM conversation header. Opens a bottom sheet modal with report reason selection, inline success/error feedback, and safe area handling. Reports are submitted to the server's reporting system.

Privacy settings — Reporting & Safety section — Added three info cards to the Privacy settings screen covering: how to report users/content, the 24-hour review commitment, and report confidentiality.
