### 5/5 — In a word: Wow

*2020-05-29*

I’m incredibly impressed with how cleanly this application has been built, its functionality, and Roger’s commitment to honouring the people involved.

Monologue: This is an app the way they used to be built over five years ago, before large corporations began producing most of what we get, and developers resorted to cheap tricks and deceitful adtech/bloatware & subscription methods to keep greed happy. In short, this is an app in the true spirit of the pioneering developers who made Apple’s iPhone an excellent tool for productivity. Get it, if for no other reason than seeing how an app can be built.

### 5/5 — Very Practical Creative Tool

*2019-12-18, version 1.1.4*

WheelMasks is a great value!
I am a composer and producer, and I do all of the artwork for my albums and apps with Procreate. WheelMasks makes the task of building a custom color palette super simple and fun. I reported a small bug related to exporting palettes to Procreate, and the developer replied immediately and then posted an update within a few days.

### 5/5 — Super easy and simple

*2019-06-14, version 1.1.2*

I like this app, it’s an easy and simple way to build color palettes. I read that Shag uses shapes on a color wheel like this to cook up color schemes for his paintings, so I wanted to try it. This does an easy job of it, and it’s free!

### 5/5 — Under rated

*2019-05-14*

Quite new to Procreate and have been using swatches from other users to try to improve the look of my paintings. This little app has allowed me to create my own swatches. It’s a really great addition to Procreate, something that they should buy up and put into the app itself. Hope the developer finds the time to add mote in the future.

### 5/5 — I don’t usually rate apps

*2019-03-21*

But I felt inclined to. This app is incredible, exports to Procreate and Adobe format. Makes colour selection straight forward and simple. The little note in the information screen made me compelled to write the review, good job, well done very impressed.

Only one area to update that would be helpful. When you pick a colour at the bottom of the desired selection, the colour codes pop up for that particular colour, rather than jumping to the top of the list with the window opening.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2019-01-04*

I came across this app while browsing in the Procreate forums and I don’t know how I ever lived without this app! I use a few different art apps and the colour pickers are always sadly lacking. I think your app should be mandatory for other art apps to use! I have only just got it and already it’s made me very happy! So thank you for making this and making the world just a little bit more colourful! 😊

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2019-01-02, version 1.1.1*

This is a hugely useful tool for working within a color gamut leveraging any number of color theories. The ability to export color gamut is a boon since you can then import as a reference photo in another program such as Procreate, Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter

### 5/5 — Exactly what I’ve been looking for!!

*2018-11-23*

Lovely comprehensive little app and completely free to try out! Well done!

### 5/5 — Great Tool

*2017-11-10*

Love this app, I can create a swatch off the Yurmby (RGB Grey) colour wheel and import it into Procreate, takes all the hassle out of creating a swatch from hand and it makes for an artwork for more accurate lighting. Would love it if the developer would add a saturation slider to the Yurmby wheel!

### 5/5 — Brilliant – literally and figuratively 😂

*2017-06-19, version 1.0.5*

This is a fabulous app! Use it with the excellent painting app, Procreate, and transform your paintings.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2017-02-26, version 1.0.5*

After only 5 minutes, I can say without doubt that this is the best color picker / color harmony tool on the App Store. This tool does more than any other I've found for creating color harmonies. The interface is decent, it has a tutorial/built-in help, and it can export a color palette directly into Procreate. My search (and it was a long one) for a color harmony app on my iPad Pro stops here. It's time to go make some art!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hate it

*2020-09-12*

What’s the point in it being free to buy but have to pay to use it

### 1/5 — Paid For Exporting

*2019-12-16, version 1.1.3*

Paid for the exporting so I could easily export palettes to Procreate. The first export worked fairly easily. I received an auto update from Procreate for Procreate 5 and now Wheel Masks only exports blank files to Procreate.

Would love to give five stars, but would like the app to be compatible with Procreate 5 in the near future so I can continue to use what I paid for.

**Developer response:** I’ve released WheelMasks version 1.1.4 which improves the Procreate swatches file compatibility and should work with Procreate 5. Please let me know if you’re still having problems loading the palettes at apps@rogertallada.com.

### 1/5 — :(

*2019-05-10*

I was looking forward to using this but u have to pay for everything

**Developer response:** Hi TemmiezCake, you can try every feature of WheelMasks for free but exporting and creating new WheelMasks requires unlocking the app with an In-App purchase.

### 1/5 — Fix the color wheel

*2018-05-15, version 1.0.7*

The color wheel is wrong. The opposite of blue is orange not yellow. I can’t use this color wheel if the colors are in the wrong spots of the real color wheel

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. Orange is the opposite of blue in the RYB color wheel which is one of the color modes you can unlock with the InApp purchase. The default color wheel is the RGB color wheel which as you pointed out has yellow opposite to blue.

### 2/5 — Preset Colors Not Flexible Enough

*2022-04-17, version 1.2.3*

I like the concept, but want to select a particular color as a base or pull that color from a photograph. This doesn’t meet my needs.

### 3/5 — super useful but.....

*2019-05-25, version 1.1.1*

the app crashes when i try and export .pngs to save to my ipad. Please fix..

**Developer response:** Hi Moebocop, I've released version 1.1.2 that should fix this issue. If you're still having problems please let me know at apps@rogertallada.com.

### 4/5 — To export a palette you have to pay

*2020-08-26*

Seems decent enough but then when you come to export your palette you discover you have to pay. Would be nice to have seen that in the description. I’ll figure a way to work around it.

### 4/5 — Update Got Palettes Working

*2020-01-10, version 1.1.4*

Despite developer response, the palettes from this app only worked after his app was updated and procreate was not.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review, I’m glad that you were able to export your palettes to Procreate.

I found a workaround for the problem and I released it as soon as I could so WheelMasks users wouldn’t have to wait for a Procreate release. Swatches files generated with older versions of WheelMasks should work again now that Procreate has been updated.

### 4/5 — Very useful

*2018-06-09, version 1.0.7*

This is a very useful app! I would suggest adding being able to precisely set the points by color HEX, however.

### 5/5 — Not like me to leave a review… yet this app is amazing! Agile…and time saving!

### 5/5 — WOW

*2024-10-20*

What a brilliantly useful and well thought out app this is. Massive thank you to the developer for the hard work!

### 5/5 — Export Available!

*2024-06-26*

The option to export into various formats makes this app truly great. You can tell a lot of care went into the creation of this color app. 5 Stars.

### 5/5 — Colours!

*2024-06-25*

Thank you

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2024-05-02*

Just what I’ve been looking for. It’s perfect for color masking and works very well except for small glitches. I’d like to import it to procreate but it doesn’t seem to open so I’ve been taking a screenshot and opening as a reference. Any suggestions for exporting to procreate?

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review, Michelepacific. You can export a wheel mask as a Procreate palette (or multiple palettes if it contains many colors). Tap on the share button on the top right corner and choose the “Procreate Palette(s)” option, tap on “Export” and then choose Procreate in the share sheet that will appear. The palette will then be available in Procreate in the “Palettes” tab of the color popup.

### 5/5 — Exploding my brain!

*2024-02-03*

I am new to painting and struggle with what color goes with what. Not anymore! So looking forward! Thank-you!

### 5/5 — Fantastic tool. So much appreciated!

*2024-01-07*

Fantastic tool. So much appreciated!

### 5/5 — Genius

*2022-12-06, version 1.2.3*

Nothing else here in the App Store comes close.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2022-02-26*

I thought this kind of app would be too obscure to exist, but Lo and behold, you have provided. I came across this after learning James Gurney’s gamut mapping technique and wondering if there was an easy way to make a gamut mask palette for Procreate. This is so well designed and easy to use! Thank you so much for creating and sharing this, it is super useful :-)

### 5/5 — Great for Procreate palettes!

*2021-06-17*

Thank you, there is always room for improvement but great so far thank you for the updates!
