## What is Whence?

Where did it come from?

Whence is a daily geography quiz about surprising origins. Every day, everyone gets the same five things, each from a different category: words, food, drinks, inventions, music and dance, clothing and fashion, animals, plants, and games and sports. Tap the spot on the globe where you think each one began, see how close you got, and read the short, true story behind it.

The apple comes from Central Asia’s Tian Shan mountains, tea from Yunnan in southwest China, and the word “tycoon” from Japan. This geography trivia game is full of surprises like these, and every answer is checked against reliable sources.
